My daughter Evelyn was born with half a heart due to a condition called HRHS. Despite our efforts to preserve her heart over the past almost 5 years, complications with her mitral valve and other issues have made a heart transplant necessary. We received this news two days before Christmas.
Initially, we hoped she could stay home until a donor heart became available. However, over the past three months, Evelyn has stopped gaining weight and her energy has significantly declined. She now struggles with basic activities, like climbing stairs without being carried. Yesterday, she was out of breath just walking across the room. It scared me so much I was shaking.
At this point, she likely needs to be hospitalized and started on milrinone. The transplant team will make the final decision after I update them on her condition, and they were already considering admitting her during our last visit. We’re working on childcare arrangements for our other two children before we commit to long-term in-patient. I’m optimistic that Evelyn will receive a donor heart before her condition worsens significantly, and we’re praying for that outcome.

Why do you boast of evil, you mighty hero?
Why do you boast all day long,
you who are a disgrace in the eyes of G-d?
You who practice deceit,
your tongue plots destruction;
it is like a sharpened razor.
You love evil rather than good,
falsehood rather than speaking the truth.
You love every harmful word,
you deceitful tongue!
Surely G-d will bring you down to everlasting ruin:
He will snatch you up and pluck you from your tent;
he will uproot you from the land of the living.
The righteous will see and fear;
they will laugh at you, saying,
“Here now is the man
who did not make G-d his stronghold
but trusted in his great wealth
and grew strong by destroying others!”
But I am like an olive tree
flourishing in the house of G-d;
I trust in G-d’s unfailing love
