Head Pro was standing on the first tee one Saturday morning watching the first group of the day tee off. First guy hits about a 90 yard slice that went 130 yards Pro says “Loft” Next guy steps up and Hooks his shot 40 yards out of bounds Pro says “Loft” Last guy steps up, tees his ball up and tops it about 10 feet in front of where he was standing. Pro says “Loft” The first guy said “pro, what is loft?” Pro says “Lack of F’ing Talent”

Missed free throws/layups, bad closeouts, lack of rebounding, and turnovers are all a part of the game. No player does these things intentionally and some nights all these things happen simultaneously. How many possessions did you execute these things which require no skill at all? 1. Making the extra pass (instead of ISO) 2. Sprinting back on defense (it's everyone's job) 3. Moving without the ball (sometimes you have to forget the offense) 4. Being aware of where the ball is on defense.

Probably stating the obvious here, but depth is a huge advantage in the playoffs. @PlanoEastHoops is a fine example of this. See an awful lot of winning teams with very questionable fourth and fifth starters on the floor that can only go 2 players deep max. Eventually the road ends.

Next fall some kids will be held accountable for the very first time in their careers by a coach. Those that can acclimate will have a chance. Those that don't will most likely fold their tents. Some kids have had it their way for years without anyone teaching them or holding them accountable to winning concepts. Some kids have fought adversity come up short of expectations and still strive to be the best they can be. I know who my money is on.....

Good one. And yes, coaches have the ability to see kids on a daily basis and make calls to play those they trust the most. But I’ve heard enough college coaches in the stands comment some coaches have no clue what they’re doing. I’ll put it this way. When you see a good coach these days it’s pretty obvious.

Have seen some less than stellar actions in this regard. Most recently a coach giving an underclassmen transfer the single key to the gym (telling the player he earned it in front of teammates) and after telling a couple of rising seniors they would have the key for the season (and these kids would have encouraged teammates to get in with them). Another program, the coach would only give gym access to certain players, his training buddies, and their AAU teams. If everyone else followed the "protocol" to get in the gym he might have trouble responding, as in never responding. Ironically both of these 🤡🤡 asses aren't shy to talk about culture on this platform. Just a couple of examples of how to kill culture.
If you open the gym up for 1 of your players 🤔 you should be ready 2 open up the gym for all your players ✊ only making the gym available for certain players and not all is weak sauce 🏀💪

It’s like standing on the first tee. If you understand your ability/tendencies and the layout of the hole you have a chance to make an aggressive play with the target in mind. Basketball is no different, when the process and goals are clear, players can play with a true freedom that allows teams to reach their true potential. It’s when coaches lean on a single player to do it all that success is fleeting.
