ONE OF MY FAVORITE DEFENSIVE DRILLS TO START PRACTICE:
I created this Defensive Drill as a D2 Head Coach, as a warm up @ the beginning of my practices. With defense being a high priority for our team, it was important that I started practices w/ a Defensive Drill! #DrDefense
Recruiting Rule #5:
1st offers are special! When you see a special player, and they are on your radar before anyone else...with no offers, offer them. Why wait? Then stay in their #1 spot by making them a priority until they sign! THEY WILL ONLY HAVE ONE 1ST OFFER!
Assistant Coaches shouldn't be afraid to talk to their Head Coach about taking another job to help advance their career...in fear that they will either get fired OR their coach will treat them a certain way. Head Coaches should want their assistants to advance in their career.
A DOBO should be one of the highest paid positions on a coaching staff. This position is so very critical to holding a program together. I just wanted to take a moment to recognize DOBOs across the country. You are appreciated for what you do! #NationalDoboDay
ASSISTANT COACHES: If you're the coach on the sideline that keeps the team & player foul counts/timeout counts, and looking for an easy way to do that, message me. I have a template that I created that makes it easy to do and very visible (for timeouts, end of quarters, halftime)
🚨DECREASE TURNOVERS🚨
TOO MANY TURNOVERS LAST SEASON?
Start practice w/ 15 balls. Everytime there's a turnover, have a coach take that ball away. When all 15 balls are gone, either practice continues w/o balls OR entire team runs a down & back in 11 sec to gain a ball back.
I'm a free agent college basketball coach, eagerly looking to be a part of a staff! With many vacancies still left to be filled, I am still hopeful that there's a place for me. It's w/ great expectation that I continue to seek out that new home for me & my family! Please #RETWEET

Recruiting Rule #1:
Never let the best players in your area get picked up by out of area schools because you were out-recruited. Go after them with all of your heart. Show them that you want them. Roll out the red carpet!

Basketball 101: If your Big Man gets the ball in the paint and scores easily, don't run a play the next time down the court...tell your PG to clear everyone out, and go right back into the post. If something is unstoppable, why run a play that goes away from what is working?

🚨Team Shooting Drill🚨
(Warm Up Drill For Practice)
1) Set 90 Seconds on the clock
2) Team must make 25 elbow shots total
Great for enforcing shot accuracy using mindset & will power.
Would you recruit a player that send you an ALL DEFENSE highlights film of themselves completely locking down their man, shooting gaps and stealing balls, causing turnovers and talking on Defense?
To all WALK-ONs out there trying to make teams, I was once in those 4:30am walk-on tryouts. I beat out 66 guys @ 5'11½" & made the @MiamiOH_BBall team back in 1998-99. Was a part of an amazing team: @MACSports Championship & Sweet 16, & still played pro! YOU CAN DO IT! GO GET IT!

Basketball Secret (but not a secret):
Watching Film increases your game in a great way. It gives you an advantage over those who don't. It brings an IQ boost to your game that not watching the game can't. If you don't watch the game, there's a part of your game you'll never see.
My very first practice agenda as a D2 Head Coach (2017-18). Wanted to share...had several coaches asked to see an example. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. We had a great season. Followed this model all season. (23-6 Overall, 15-3 Conference)

The VERY drill (and video) that I used as a D2 Head Coach to open most of my practices! We had 15 players, so we had to make 15 lay-ups in a row, or we would start over, and stay there until 15 layups were made. Then we would switch sides and do the same.

Coaching is not like a regular job. It is a different kind of grind. To be a good coach and to do it effectively, it takes all of you. Everyone may not understand what you go through Coach, but that's ok, because the love for what you do and for those players is what drives you!
Coaching staffs that are strong in Player Development approach recruiting differently. They don't have to have a ready made player. If they see what they need to see in a player, they are confident that they can take it from there to develop the rest.
TOO MANY TURNOVERS IN YOUR 1ST COUPLE OF GAMES?
Start practice w/ 15 balls. Everytime there's a turnover, have an assistant take that ball away. When those 15 balls are gone, either practice continues w/o balls OR the entire team runs a down & back in 11 sec to gain a ball back.

As a coach that is looking for your next position, you may hear "it's not about what you know, its about who you know". What if you don't know a person that can call an AD/Coach for you? I would say this...you DO know someone! His name is Jesus. Trust Him and keep applying!🙏🏽
Looking for MBB & WBB Seniors at the D1, D2, D3, NAIA, NCCAA and USCAA levels that are looking to play pro basketball. Please DM me if you are that player, or if you are a coach that is coaching a senior looking to play pro!
Don't forget about your players after they pass through your program. It's a lifelong commitment. Be sure to look out for them as they take their next steps.
I WOULD RECRUIT HER RIGHT NOW! As I look at this video, it tells me 1 HUGE thing that I need to know, that she is dedicated & not only willing to work, but IS WORKING! She has ALREADY put herself in a class of her own with the 5am work! EVERYONE IS NOT DOING THIS. VERY FEW ARE!
An assistant coach should never be afraid of talking to their head coach about their aspirations to climb higher, go after another job, or asking them to help them with a career move....out of fear that they will begin to treat them poorly, or begin to push them out the door.

Not choosing a player or a coach because they have a gap in their resume is common. But you never know, that person may be a diamond in the rough. There may be a reason for that gap. I love helping people who have gaps in their resumes or are overlooked. They need opportunity too
ON-BALL DEFENSE:
You must teach players to be hungry for the ball. If they are not plotting to get the ball or making life HARD for the ballhandler, they are NOT playing DEFENSE. Days of defenders just shuffling along with ball handlers & calling it defense are over. #DrDefense

2. Make your Head Coach look good
3. Help make your HC Coach Of The Year
4. Do all duties on time and with excellence
5. When you bring problems to you HC, bring a list of solutions
I'd rather be the guy that tried and got laughed at, doors closed in my face, calls unanswered...
...than the guy who sat back trying to play it safe, just to make sure I don't look wierd to others for going for it.
