when you finish rebuilding @karpathy nanochat only to remember your actual job for the foreseeable future is still gonna be building agents that are just OpenAI calls in a for loop

Warning to young technologists: there is a kind of person who is motivated to learn tech as a way to impress and gain cool points amongst other technologists. Maybe not knowingly, but subconsciously—they are socially motivated. They know Rust, they know Haskell, they only use vim, they build compilers on the weekend, they only run AI models locally, they have fine-tuned a model that underperforms GPT4 in every way possible, they keep their GitHub squares green But many struggle to deliver real products and value 10-20 years down this path. They grow weary of the career, and sometimes quit. They feel did everything right, why weren't they rewarded? The "cool chips" cannot be cashed in. They evaporate, and then you're left with very little. Just go and build things that are useful or entertaining—that's an enduring skill. [Sure learning Assembly and C can be helpful, but I know many people who have built great things without doing much of either]

Chad IDE (@cladlabs) is the brainrot code editor. AI coding takes 1–5 min between prompts—too long to ignore, too short to start something new.  Chad integrates your brainrot (X, IG, Stake, Tinder, etc) into your agentic coding workflow and helps to manage your context-switching. Less doom-scrolling. More shipping.

Talk to customers? No no. Why would you talk to customers? If you get on calls, they’ll ask “how many?” And it will never be enough. Startup that could have been a 100x-er becomes a 2x dog. But if you do no calls, you can say you’re pre-customers and you’re a potential pure play
Russ Hanneman really was the hero on Silicon Valley: “Revenue? No no no no. Why would you go after revenue? If you show people revenue, they’ll ask ‘how much?’. And it will never be enough. The company that was the 100x-er or the 1000x-er becomes the 2x dog. But if you have no revenue, you can say you’re pre-revenue and you’re a potential pure play.”
