IMPORTANT FOR ALL CREATORS! CapCut’s new June 2025 Terms are a HUGE red flag. If you’re using it to edit videos for clients, brands, or even your personal content… This isn’t to scare—it’s to inform. Most creators I know use CapCut and don’t realize how much control they’re handing over. What the June 2025 Terms Actually Say 1. Broad rights over your content CapCut grants itself a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable license to use, modify, monetize, distribute, and even resell anything you upload—even if it’s private or later deleted . 2. No control or credit for creators You waive your right to review, approve, or receive credit. CapCut (and ByteDance) can use your name, image, and likeness in ads, campaigns, or AI training—with no compensation . 3. Cloud backup is not guaranteed There’s explicitly no promise they’ll preserve or restore your data. If your cloud plan expires or they change it, your work may be lost without notice—and no refunds . 4. You’re legally and financially liable Any copyright infringement (e.g. unlicensed music) or disputes involving third-party tools (like AI integrations) fall completely on you. CapCut disclaims liability and may require you to indemnify them . 5. Third-party AI tools included CapCut integrates with tools like Stable Diffusion or Runway. Using them means you’re bound by those separate terms too, even if you’re not aware . 6. Contractors & client work at risk Uploading client or NDA-protected material could violate CapCut’s license and conflict with client confidentiality or exclusivity arrangements . What This Means for You •You don’t lose copyright—but you lose control. The license means CapCut can act as if they own or co-own your work without paying or notifying you. •Cloud-based uploads are risky. If you use CapCut’s cloud, assume your content might be used commercially or even wiped out. •You’re exposed legally. Any third-party content or tools—you bear responsibility. •Permanent & irrevocable. These rights persist even if you delete your content or stop using CapCut. ⸻ ✅ How to Protect Yourself •Keep sensitive or client projects off CapCut’s cloud. Edit offline using desktop apps or local-only modes. •Export early. Do your editing in CapCut but save the final file to your own drive before uploading anything. •Use alternative editors. Tools like DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere, or Final Cut don’t claim these rights and are safer for professional or confidential work. •Always backup. Don’t rely on CapCut cloud—it’s not a proper storage solution.
