Apparently when a crime is committed, everyone in the supply chain that enabled the criminal are liable, so
next time youβre hit by a drunk driverβ you could* use the precedence from Pertsev to sue the:
-car manufacturer for making the car,
-car dealership for selling the car,
-bank for financing the loan,
-insurance co for insuring the driver,
-State for issuing the driverβs license,
-driving school,
-bar that sold the alcohol,
-bartender that over-served,
-manager of the bar/restaurant,
-booze distributor,
-booze bottler,
-brand that manufactures the booze,
& most importantly:
-parents for creating the driver
*Iβm not a lawyer, this isnβt legal advice
Every step of the way it took leveraging many legal things to enable that driver to commit a crime, and sentencing Pertsev just for deploying open source code lol makes the entire supply chain liable for the actions of anyone who may misuse a thing
Driving is legal; drunk driving is illegal
Money is legal; laundering it is illegal
Guns are legal; shooting folks is illegal
Just wait til you see why gun manufacturers canβt be sued for crimes committed with the guns they produce (maybe now that veil is pierced)
Code is speech
Open Source is not a crime
Privacy is a fundamental human right
