This is what we see at Zapier.
While some use cases replace human tasks. Far more are doing things humans couldn't or wouldn't do because of cost, tediousness, or time constraints.
I'm bullish on innovation in a whole host of areas that would have been considered "niche" in the past.
The biggest mistake when thinking about AI Agents is to narrowly see them as replacing work that already gets done. The vast majority of AI Agents will be used to automate tasks that humans never got around to doing before because it was too expensive or time consuming.

A lot of folks are rightfully asking how to measure this. @Scobleizer lays out a good template to follow.
The trick is to have a long list of progressively more difficult tasks. Then see where that persons curiosity and skill have taken them.
I see lots of people asking how you screen for AI fluency.
1. Please show me how you manage your life with AI.
2. Please show me an MCP server you built.
3. Tell me about a time when you used a multi-step prompt to solve a problem or learn something.
4. If I give you a new problem, please talk through how you would use AI to solve that problem.

7. Please tell me a time when AI didn't work for you.

Many leaders I talk to assume that building an AI agent is hard.
(if you aren't at least a little technically inclined)
In fact most people think:
1. Workflows are easiest
2. Code-based tools are harder
(@cursor_ai / @AnthropicAI's Claude Code)
3. Agents are the hardest
But that’s backwards.
With AI Agents, you don’t have to stitch together every step manually or map out a perfect process upfront. Just describe the goal in natural language and let the Agent figure the rest out autonomously.
And if you're already building Zaps with AI, you're a lot closer to building agents than you think.
