I’m joining @saranormous, @pranavreddy and the team at @conviction! The past two years have been the best. I’ve enjoyed the freedom to travel with my family and (assistant) coach my son’s Little League teams, all while continuing to try to help some of the founders and companies I’ve worked with over the past decade. These two years have confirmed that I love hanging out with my family … and it’s really fun to spend time with amazing, ambitious, impatient entrepreneurs. We are living through the most exciting technological change of our lifetime (of anyone’s lifetime?). We are on the cusp of having an infinite supply of intelligence. We can literally just convert electricity into intelligence. It’s hard to sit that one out. I have known Sarah Guo for years. She’s one of the smartest, hardest-working, most connected and admired investors out there. Founders love her. Over the past two years, she and the team at Conviction have built one of the most exciting new firms in years. In just two years they have partnered with @harvey_ai, @MistralAI, @SierraPlatform, @cognition_labs, @HeyGen_Official, @cartesia and more. That’s pretty good. In a short period, Sarah and Pranav have emerged as the partners of choice for AI-native companies. Even more impressive than the track record is the ethos, ambition and culture of the firm (sarahguo.com/blog/conviction). At Conviction, we are building a small, hands-on team that deeply understands the technological revolution that is underway, that can serve as a connector between the builders at the center of it and that has the patience, independence and conviction to take an extremely long-term perspective. And it’s fun to be back at a startup! There are cardboard boxes everywhere and a random humanoid robot hanging out in the kitchen. The most fun I’ve had in my working career was the early, fast-scaling days at Facebook – it’s fun to be back. I have been fortunate to work with some amazing teams and founders over the past decade (thank you!). Luckily I’ll continue to work with a few – @getcaptionsapp, @clay_gtm, @NotionHQ, @Rippling, @Statsig – for the rest, please don’t be a stranger. I am grateful to Sarah, Pranav, Christy, Niki and Vivian for welcoming me in and trusting me to be part of the team. And lastly and most importantly, I am so grateful to my wife and my kids who have hung out with me for the past two years and have been supportive of this new journey.

I think @wabi is pretty clearly where the world is going. The Internet caused the barbell-ification of a lot industries – Retail (Amazon & Shopify merchants), News (NYT & Substack writers), Media (Netflix & TikTok creators), etc. I think AI will do the same for apps and software development more generally (both in the enterprise and in consumer). A small # of platforms will become more powerful and "app" creation will become radically democratized. Wabi feels like exactly this. I can just create an animal guessing game for me and my kids to play live. It's super cool! Congrats to the team on the launch!
The YouTube moment for apps is just around the corner. What if you could see what apps your friends are using? What if you could post what you’re making - or ask for new features - in the comments? What if apps were conversation starters? What if apps built communities? Unlike other app builders, every app in @wabi is built on a shared foundation - a social graph where users can make, share, remix, and collaborate The next operating system will be social Let’s build it together.

The round was led by Founders Fund with other existing investors including Lux, 8VC, Neo, Elad Gil, Definition Capital, and Swish VC all doubling down. We’re also joined by new investors including Bain Capital Ventures and D1 Capital. Two of our early investors, Christian Lawless of Conversion Capital and Emily Cohen of Neo, have even joined our team full-time.

Our actors laugh, flinch, sing, rap — all of course, per your direction. Just upload an audio, describe the scene or drop in a reference image, and create energetic content in minutes. Built for marketers, creative teams, and anyone serious about crafting great narrative videos. Available for everyone at mirage dot app. Get started with a few ideas below.

It’s been a big year for Captions, and it’s only July. Building on this momentum, we’re excited to announce our $60M Series C, led by @IndexVentures. That brings our total capital raised to $100M, which we’ll be investing in AI video research right here in New York City. We built Captions to make it easy for anyone, anywhere to tell their story with a video — we believe that AI unlocks new possibilities to generate and edit talking videos, and that AI will change the future of video as we know it. Looking at the past year, there’s a lot to be proud of: we hit 10M+ global creators, launched a collection of world-first generative features, and our customers created over 3M videos each month — telling diverse stories, transcending language barriers, and even falling in love, as profiled in the New York Times. Our team also grew from 15 to 60 here in New York City. We’re thrilled to welcome back returning investors @KleinerPerkins, @a16z, and @Sequoia, and new investors @Adobe Ventures, @HubSpot Ventures, and @JaredLeto to this round. We’re grateful for your support.

Welcome @igarciacamargo to the @conviction team! There are many traits we seek in investors – smart, curious, deeply technical, AI native, well networked. Bella is all of those things – a Stanford CS graduate who was recruited by her professor (@alexstamos – ty for the referral!) to his cybersecurity firm and who later joined Bridgewater to figure out how AI will revolutionize investing. Our friend @gradypb often talks about looking for people that are "competitive with a heart of gold." That's the perfect description of Bella – she was an All-American D1 athlete, a top student, an intense grinder (in the best way), but also a great friend and coworker. Venture done best is a service profession, and it's clear a core motivation of hers is to help others. We are very excited to have her join! If you are building an AI company – especially in cybersecurity or finance – come to talk to her (and us)!
Thrilled to share I’m joining the investing team @conviction! I’m so grateful for my time at Bridgewater building AI systems to beat markets. But the deeper we got into this technology, the more excited I got about the pace of advancement, and I knew I had to get back to the middle of it all in SF. From my first conversation with Sarah, it was clear I’d be right at home with Conviction. She’s quickly built an all-star team of intense, curious, and good people working alongside some of the most exciting founders in the space. I’m incredibly lucky to have this opportunity to learn from herself, @mvernal, and @pranavreddy. If you are a founder building an AI-native company, I would love to meet. I’m particularly focused on cybersecurity and financial tools. Thank you to the Conviction team for welcoming me aboard, and to my friends at Bridgewater for an incredible journey. Here’s to building what comes next!

Come join Embed v4! If you're still noodling ideas, one thing I've been thinking about is reasoning-based vertical apps. Two years ago, we discovered this alien-technology API that lets you ask questions and get (reasonably) fast, smart answers. Most of the successful apps built so far – the vertical copilots, the customer-support agents, etc. – wrap this synchronous, request-response API with some domain-specific UI and information retrieval. One exception is Devin, which has been exploring what the UI should be for long-lived, complex work. And OpenAI is now exploring similar UIs with Operator and DeepResearch. What does Devin look like for other industries? How do you harness 50 smart interns in sales, marketing, finance, design and the like? I think there'll probably be some interesting vertical apps that are built around managing a team of smart AI interns in various domains. They'll leverage the underlying reasoning models but adapted for function- or industry-specific workflows. If you're building something like this, would love to chat!

@kunalb11, I feel like this is a case study for the delta-4 test. It’s impossible to quantify what 10x or 100x better is. Basic idea of delta-4 – what would a customer rate the old thing on a scale of 1-10? What would they rate the new thing? The new thing needs to be 4+ better.

I am always surprised when VCs fixate on gross margins for AI companies. The rate of price-performance improvement is so much higher than Moore's Law that it seems clear that the market will just "solve" any non-insane GM problems relatively quickly? I keep wondering about what kind of products you could build if you were willing to spend ~$1k-10k/month per user on computational intelligence. It seems impossible to even contemplate building those if you're only charging $20/month but it also seems like those products will probably *cost* $20/month within a couple of years, assuming continued improvements and some minor optimization.

I first worked w/ @rsanghvi and @adityaag 14 years ago this month and have ended up working with multiple SPC alums as founders. I am excited to get to work with the whole SPC crew on their web3 fellowship program! To apply, check out: southparkcommons.medium.com/…
1/ Thrilled to open applications for our 3rd Founder Fellowship cohort—$400k in funding pre-idea. But this time, with our friends @ScriptCapital, @mvernal from @sequoia, @zoink, @ljin18, and @multicoin, we're going all-in on web3. southparkcommons.medium.com/…

He looked at me and growled "What are you, a tourist?" He then smiled and regaled me with stories of working with Steve Jobs. A true legend.

I think you have to believe that (a) historically software has not created much value for the legal industry (change tracking, databases, etc. – but nothing transformative) and (b) text-based intelligence unlocks a huge amount of value creation for lawyers (and value capture for the provider). Adobe's creative business is arguably vertical SaaS that does >$13B ARR serving creative professionals. Adobe's products clearly create way more value than traditional legal tech or ServiceTitan (even though ServiceTitan is great!). How much value will tools like Harvey create in the legal world? I think closer to Adobe than traditional solutions.

Verkada is doing an amazing job of modernizing buildings with consumer and cloud sensibilities. Don't underestimate what you can do when you bring together great software and hardware people. Congrats @VerkadaHQ and team!
We are thrilled to share that Verkada has raised $80M in #SeriesC financing at $1.6B valuation to expand on the vision of building a software layer for every commercial building to run on. #technology #funding #security #accesscontrol #videosecurity techcrunch.com/2020/01/29/ve…

This is pretty wild.
It’s official: you can now create your own AI Twin, only on Captions. Just record a minute of yourself talking, and watch your AI Twin come to life. Go from idea to video in seconds, and get the perfect take every time. If you've ever wanted a twin — now’s your chance.

Luciana captured my thoughts perfectly. I have worked with some truly exceptional and highly competitive people, but I have never worked with someone as committed to excellence as @roelofbotha.
I am fortunate enough to have met many incredible people. ⁦⁦@roelofbotha⁩ is in a league of his own. protocol.com/sequoia-roelof-…
