Today, we're launching Mosaic Canvas. Think Gumloop, but for video editing. With Canvas, you can now create and run your own video editing agents. Agents run video edits completely on autopilot, and can branch to create multiple variants from a single video. We're rethinking the traditional non-linear video editor. Our @ycombinator batch ended a little over 2 weeks ago. I've been delayed in making a post for it because I had a lot to reflect on and write about. But I think at a more subconscious level, I probably just didn't want to face the reality that YC is over. We are now out in the wild, armed with the final piece of advice our group partners left us with: "Just don't die". In order to not die, I created a collection of my learnings and reflections from our YC journey. This collection becomes the first post on Mosaic's new blog, readable at usemosaic.ai/blog/y-combinat…! This might be particularly useful for those interested in applying to YC, those going through YC's newest X25 batch, or anyone building an early-stage startup. So, what's next for Mosaic? Since YC ended, we have raised our seed round, secured an office space, and are adding a small number of brilliant engineers to our team. We've been shipping at high velocity — Mosaic today looks a lot different than it looked 8 weeks ago, and we're just getting started. We are pushing the boundaries of what multimodal AI and agentic video systems are capable of. If you'd like to join us on the frontier, we're hiring! My DMs are open :) ---- A special thank you to @superfx64, @bosmeny, @harjtaggar, @garrytan, and all the W25 batch mates who made this such a special journey. Read the full post here: usemosaic.ai/blog/y-combinat… I tracked my YC journey every day for 50 days: nitter.app/_adishj/status/1877473…
Just wrapped up the Winter 2025 batch kick-off at @ycombinator. Three days of insightful conversations with other founders, talks from group and visiting partners, and incredible fireside chats with guest speakers like Brian Armstrong (CEO Coinbase), Greg Brockman (President OpenAI), Aravind Srinivas (CEO Perplexity). I am super excited for these next three months at YC. I'm sure they’ll go by fast, so I will be trying my best to document the journey and my first-time founder experiences here. And now that the talks and kick-off is over, the real work begins. It's time to get back to building @usemosaic_ai. Check us out here: usemosaic.ai/

An Open Letter to OpusClip To @opusyoung and the @OpusClip team, Last week, an AI Product Manager from your team misrepresented who she was in an attempt to get access to the @mosaic_so private beta. She booked and attended an user interview under false pretenses to learn about product features and roadmap. She also attempted to get access to the beta. Before the interview, she had wiped her LinkedIn clean of the fact that she worked for Opus. So when I checked initially I didn’t see anything. By sheer intuition, I decided to check her LinkedIn once again before giving her access and, to my surprise, found the position as “AI Product Manager at OpusClip” back on her LinkedIn. This is the second time this has happened. A month ago, the Creative Director of Opus (the guy who does the voices for your ads), attempted to similarly access our beta under false pretenses. During the call when I revealed to him I knew who he was, his literal reaction was “oh fuck” — as if he had been caught red-handed. Maybe I’m just a naive founder. But I believe that competition is one thing and deception is another. Your employees have taken multiple attempts at lying about who they were and their motivations to try and access our Beta. They have failed to get access both times. It happened once, I let it go. It happened twice, I’m calling you out. Don’t let it happen again. Walk the righteous path. - Adish

Last week, Mosaic won 1st place in the AI demo competition at SaaStr Annual — beating out hundreds of other AI startups in one of the world's largest software conferences. Beyond the prizes that come with winning, presenting at SaaStr was a high visibility opportunity that put us in front of a lot of people who are interested in leveraging Mosaic for business marketing and content creation use cases. Huge thanks to @jasonlk, @miadia, @NavinChaddha, @MayfieldFund and the entire @SaaStr team for organizing this awesome event. Special shoutout to @ycombinator for getting us booths in SaaStr's YC pavilion and to @garrytan for being the face of our demo — people love hearing you in Spanish & French :) If you're interested to see what @usemosaic_ai's agentic video editing is capable of, we are opening up wider access to our Beta starting today: usemosaic [dot] ai

we took the latest @LightconePod about co-founder conflict and ran it through the Mosaic video editing agent. the agent pulled out some very interesting shorts from the 45-minute podcast, including: 1. the moment @snowmaker talks about the origins of the name Scribd and how hard it was to decide on a name 2. the moment @garrytan talks about your body keeping score 3. the moment @sdianahu and @harjtaggar talk about not crossing the net it then removed silences, reframed each of these moments to support both 16:9 and 9:16 aspect ratios while focusing on the active speaker, and added dynamic captions. this was a great episode by the @ycombinator partners and taught me a lot about managing co-founder relationships. my personal favorite moment was when Garry talks about "game recognizing game". check out the full agent run which includes the full episode and all the different shorts Mosaic created: app.usemosaic.ai/agents/canv…

earlier this week, I had the chance to return to the @ycombinator office as an alumni judge for the summer batch's demo competition. back when we competed, Mosaic won this same competition—so coming back to help choose the next winners was a full-circle moment. the demos were awesome. congrats to @BootLoopAI on the win! it was also my first time back since our batch ended in march. being within YC’s four orange walls always brings back something special. one of the first things you see when you walk in is the countdown to Demo Day. that simple timer does a lot—it creates urgency, focus, and momentum. inspired, we put up a countdown at @usemosaic_ai HQ for an upcoming release. YC may be behind us, but the mindset isn’t. work hard, move fast, and stay locked in.

this video is easily the best explanation I’ve seen for AI video generation. it’s not just teaching; it’s storytelling. just like particles diffusing through air, AI video generation comes to life through pixels doing a random walk. the same Brownian motion that shapes the physical reality around us is what enables us to recreate high-fidelity video generations. so, so good. the @3blue1brown channel never misses. from the 40-minute video, here's a 1-minute tl;dr I had my @usemosaic_ai agent edit and post for me, all on autopilot:

September Stories: Day 1 Over the past couple months, the team at @mosaic_so has been deep in product development. We have been working with early design partners and Beta testers to make rapid progress and to ensure we're building something people want. But today, I want to start sharing our journey more broadly. The features we've been building. The ups, the downs. The progress, the hurdles along the way. The real truths of building a startup in a space as competitive as AI video. And what better way for us to dogfood our AI video editing software than to use it for every single video we make this month? That's right — every single video I'll be posting this month will be edited on autopilot by @mosaic_so, with little to no guidance from me. Today is Day 1 of what I'm calling September Stories. ============ Prompt: "I am building Mosaic. Use the footage here to create a video where I talk about kicking off September Stories. Start with a montage of me walking into the office, making an espresso, some shots of the office itself (the ceiling pan shots), and the spin shot of the Mosaic name plate. From there, go into the actual talking head part of the video. Don't cut any of that out but remove the silences and filler words. Add epic music at the beginning and captions and b-rolls that are relevant." Want to edit your videos faster? Join the Beta waitlist: mosaic [dot] so

September Stories: Day 9 Today is @ycombinator S25 Batch Demo Day. On days like this, I'm reminded of how serendipitous this past year has been. YC has been a major inflection point for @mosaic_so and for me personally. So much has happened in a really short span of time. And it all really started with getting into YC. To all those who have ever thought to apply — do it. To all those that applied but didn't yet get in — don't give up. And to all those taking the stage today at Demo Day — best of luck. ============ This is the founder video Kyle and I recorded for our YC application, back when we were called Frame AI. We are (and have always been) building the Cursor for Video Editing. Original footage from November 10th, 2024. Want to use the Cursor for Video Editing? Sign up for the Beta at mosaic [dot] so.

this is why I hate the discourse around that guy who posted $0 revenue after a year of working on his startup & ppl dunking on him for it companies grow at their own pace, initial traction isn’t everything just keep at it & never give up
John Collison: We only had 50 users two years after founding Stripe “We started working on Stripe in the Fall of 2009, and we launched Stripe in September 2011,” John Collison reflects. “I remember right at the beginning when we were starting it I said to Patrick [Collison], ‘Yeah let’s do it. How hard can it be?’ Which gives you a sense of our mindset. And the answer was: two years of difficulty. We had not predicted that.” John remembers feeling dejected when Stripe only had 50 users two years later: “When you spend two years getting 50 users, it doesn’t feel like a whole lot of progress. It feels like things are going pretty slow.” But this is one of the challenges of startups, he argues: “If you’re working on a startup that’s a bad idea, it’s going to feel like slow-going. But if you’re working on a startup that’s a good idea, it may feel like slow-going too.” Yet slow growth has a silver lining: “I think the thing that allowed us to take off in the subsequent years was the fact that since we were spending so much time on each one of those users; since we were hyper-focused on building a great product; and since we weren’t dealing with problems of scale yet, that allowed us to build the product that we wanted. Part of the culture that set in really early on was taking abnormally good care of those early users.” The Stripe founders would get an email or phone call anytime a user ran into a bug. When they sent the customer an email moments later alerting them that the bug was now fixed, people’s minds were blown. They set up a Campfire room that any customer could join and use to message John and Patrick at any hour of the day or night. And if a user was based in the Bay Area, the founders would invite them to come by the office and help integrate Stripe for them. In the Stripe dashboard they would prompt their customers for feedback and feature requests. Then the Stripe founders would reply to that feedback within 10 minutes. “What this meant was that even though the user growth was happening quite slowly in the early days,” John explains, “it actually had a pretty surprising viral effect where people had a good experience, they told their friends about it, and we were able to spread entirely through word-of-mouth even to this day.” Video source: @ECorner (2015)

Today, @mosaic_so turns 1. Looking back, it's crazy to imagine how much we've gotten done. In the past year: ↳ Found it difficult to edit our own YouTube video, so we decided to build a video editor ↳ Got into @ycombinator ↳ Placed 1st out of 6,400 in the @Google Gemini Long Context @kaggle competition ↳ Evolved from a chat-first product to a canvas-first product interface ↳ Talked to hundreds of users In the past 6 months: ↳ Raised a seed round ↳ Doubled our team size ↳ Went from working out of our apartment to a beautiful office space in the heart of SF, shared with investors @jaltma, @saranormous, and @chadbyers ↳ 1st place at @saastr AI competition out of hundreds of AI startups ↳ Complete re-design of our canvas, editor, and video understanding ↳ Talked to hundreds of users And in just the past month: ↳ Viral launched our public Beta ↳ Hit a huge revenue milestone within weeks of launch ↳ Talked to hundreds of users And... this was all just in year one. If you'd like to join us in building the future of agentic video editing, today we're opening up two new roles: ↳ Frontend / Product Engineer — DM with most impressive live project link ↳ Growth Marketing Intern — DM with portfolio link I cannot wait to see what this next year brings. We've already got some huge changes in development which I cannot wait to share very soon.

Awesome to see Mosaic featured in the latest @googledevs Blog: developers.googleblog.com/en… For this example, I took @OfficialLoganK's recent 35 minute Release Notes interview and used Mosaic to create a few different shorts from it, all on autopilot. The first branch: 1. Finds the exact moment they talk about how fast Gemini 2.0 is 2. Reframes the video to have aspect ratio, using active speaker detection 3. Adds captions that match the pace of the interview The second branch: 1. Finds the exact moment they talk about multimodal agents 2. Adds cinematic B-roll shots overlaid to the interview See the original interview: piped.video/watch?v=L7dw799v… See Mosaic's final results: drive.google.com/drive/folde… Learn more at usemosaic.ai

the coolest part here is that the agent didn't just pick one contiguous part of the video, it stitched together multiple clips into a cohesive short this is something new we've been working on and will be available in beta in the next day or two
really enjoyed listening to the latest @uncapped_pod with @jaltma and @garrytan we used Mosaic's video editing AI agent to find some great clips from their pod and add captions — all on autopilot here's one where they talk about the kind of founders @ycombinator looks for

September Stories: Day 24 I've got some big news to share today. I've been missing posting my daily September Stories for the past few days, but I promise it was for good reason. The team has been working extremely hard to stabilize our Beta and today I'm so excited to share that we're officially soft launching the @mosaic_so Beta to the thousands of people who took the time to signup to our early access waitlist. We're so pumped to finally share what we've been building with the world and cannot wait to see what kind of Mosaics you all create! If you had signed up to our waitlist, expect an email in your inbox over the next few hours as we roll out Beta access to all. ============ Want to be included in the next wave of invites? Sign up for the Beta at mosaic [dot] so.

you can just email people thanks for taking the time to check out Mosaic @jaltma!
took the new @jaltma podcast with @shaunmmaguire and ran it through the Mosaic video editing agent our AI agent found the moments shaun compares physics to social media, poker to hegemony, and even when he talks about death it then dubbed to different languages like spanish and portuguese, added captions, added cinematic b-roll, music, and re-framed to different aspect ratios it created all these variants on autopilot here's the full agent run: app.usemosaic.ai/agents/canv… try it out for yourself at usemosaic.ai

Mosaic's full legal entity name is "Mosaic AI Labs, Inc." our goal is to operate at the frontier of multimodal AI, video processing, and agentic systems. approaching these topics with a research-first orientation means we're not just trying to build a great product, we're uncovering new possibilities in video editing and understanding. today, we publish our first research findings around intelligent video captioning and placement, written by the newest member of our founding team, @shivvtrivedi full blog post in the comments!

eating the 32 omelettes and then unloading them just to mess with the plumbing doesn’t sound efficient tell this billionaire to maximize his efficiency by ordering just one omelette, sneaking it to the toilet, and clogging the pipes that way

great idea @mehtasdeepak! here's an agent we ran with Mosaic: In about 5 minutes, it enhanced the audio, found and generated shorts (based on my prompts of focus areas e.g. "most inspiring" versus "most viral"), added b-roll, music, removed the background, dubbed to two languages, and added the associated captions and created 4 different video results for me (11 if you count all the intermediary nodes here). here's two of the final outputs that got produced: 1. ran through the B-roll branch, which automatically generated and added B-roll by the agent based on moments it thought could use it. 2. ran through the french dub -> captions branch (the voice cloning is so good, it actually sounds like garry). previously, creating all of these variants might have taken me at least 1-2 hours. probably longer. usemosaic.ai @usemosaic_ai

Would be good to see an edited video before and after , also time it took. Traditional video editors can be tough to learn but once you aquire the skill then it becomes easier.

I remember using @Replit for the first time back in 2018 to teach students how to code Back then it was a collaborative code IDE that helped make coding easier and more accessible. But what if you could remove coding all together at the app layer? That’s what @amasad doubled down on as he discussed the future of Replit Agent as being the autonomous & all-in-one solution to app development @ycombinator

im really glad we had a successful launch but that was never the goal the goal has always been to make something that people want the launch got your attention, now our goal is to keep it
Great goals track outputs and outcomes (paying users, retention) Vanity goals track inputs (impressions, launches, press releases, blog posts) Your goals matter more than you think

Andrew Ng's formula for startup success: Speed. With AI, prototyping isn't just 50% faster—it's 10x faster. The race just got a whole lot shorter.
