Wanna know what the Kerr County Commissioners raced to go do at their first meeting since the flood disaster? Unanimously vote to raise our property taxes to the MAX of 8%! Normally, they’d be capped at 3.5% or else it would trigger a public vote. Because it’s during a declared disaster, there’s no public vote. So while 120 people are still missing, countless homes damaged or destroyed, & our community struggling to live daily life, our REPUBLICAN commissioners max out property taxes in our darkest hour!!! What a disgrace!! @chiproytx @wesvirdelltx @TXlege @joepag @charliekirk11 @POTUS @Sec_Noem @GregAbbott_TX @DanPatrick

They did it! Kerrville City Council just voted unanimously to consider raising property taxes to the max up to an 8% jump (exploiting a disaster loophole) following the worst flood disaster ever to hit Texas! If they get away with this, God help us all. Residents are barely hanging on & struggling to put their lives back together, now this? Kerr County initially voted to do this, too. But the majority now say they’re not voting to raise property taxes. No such assurances last night from this city council. With the state picking up the biggest cost of debris removal, why would they do this to their own residents? #txlege @POTUS @GregAbbott_TX @DanPatrick @chiproytx @SenTedCruz @JoeTalkShow @ksatnews @KENS5 @FoxNews @News4SA @SpectrumNews1TX #kerrstrong #hillcountrystrong

You don’t vote to advance something you oppose. They voted unanimously to have the tax assessor calculate the max rate and run the numbers to do it, specifically citing their ability to bypass a public vote. So while the final vote to change the tax rate will happen at a future meeting, this shouldn’t even be on the table. It’s exploiting a disaster. They’re going to get billions from state and federal resources. You don’t stick it to the residents still reeling from the disaster whose property values just plummeted, with our area totally devastated and still under flood watches regularly in certain areas. The special session starts Monday. For heavens sake, wait for the #txlege to weigh in before jumping on the tax hike train!

Update: the Kerr County commissioners are trying to hide from their deplorable actions by saying they’re just ‘exploring’ the max tax rate by voting to get the numbers from comptroller. But you don’t take first steps on something you wouldn’t contemplate actually doing! No Republican, much less a conservative, would even contemplate max rating property taxes during a disaster! The leopard has shown its spots & exposed for all to see. Sunlight is the best disinfectant!

Joe, The Kerr County Commissioners met for their first regular meeting post-flood today, and on agenda item 1.13 discussed voting to max rate property taxes above the normal legal limit of 3.5%, and because it’s during a declared disaster, they don’t have to bring it to a public vote. About 1 hour and 20 minutes into the meeting... piped.video/watch?v=A7vJO9Xs… The Harris County Commissioners did this to Houston after Hurricane Beryl, yet we have Republicans intending to do it here. They voted unanimously to get the numbers to do so from the tax assessor so they could increase the tax rate at a future meeting. You don't vote to advance something you fundamentally oppose. This shouldn’t even be on the table, especially in a Republican county. It adds insult to injury. Residents are struggling to get back into their homes and salvage what they can, active recovery efforts are still ongoing (they just pulled a body from the river right near our house yesterday - we live two houses up from the river), and residents are in crisis, yet this is what our county rushes to do? Exploit a crisis to stick it to us financially on top of everything else? Their excuse was it took FEMA 3 years to pay it back last time (didn’t specify which event, I’m guessing ice storm which was under Biden — you can’t even compare that to Trump’s FEMA), but there’s a new administration now and FEMA has been lightning fast in response, along with Abbott and the state. Massive resources have been deployed and will continue to be. The President assured us all of that Friday. So there’s no excuse to max out property taxes and exploit the disaster declaration to avoid a public vote on it. It’s outrageous and pours salt in the wounds of our community when they’re struggling, hurting, and devastated by this unprecedented natural disaster.

The next generation is primed for a permanent CONSERVATIVE political realignment — the most dramatic realignment we've seen since Woodstock. But it's not guaranteed. We have to address the honest economic anxieties of our youngest voters. We need to ensure they become a generation of owners, not renters. If we don't, there will be more Zohran Mandanis, Omar Fatehs, and Abdul El-Sayeds. The populist energy in America will either flow into MAGA populist conservatism that restores the American Dream, or racial grievance-driven, free-stuff socialism that destroys it. It's a race against the clock. We have 3.5 years to deliver, and if we do, we will change the course of American history for the better. We must deliver.

Grassroots in TX: Contact your state legislators IMMEDIATELY to stop SB 336! Our right to engage & exercise free speech is at stake. It would bring lawfare to Texas!
I can't express this loudly enough. If you are involved in the grassroots in Texas—your number one priority needs to be defeating Senate Bill 336. —You're a pro-life activist? This session you're working two issues, not one. —You care about taxpayer funded lobbying? That's your number two issue this session. —You care about gun rights? Again, that should be taking a back seat to defeating this bill. Why? Senate Bill 336 will cripple your ability to operate freely as a grassroots activist. And it is being backed by the most powerful interests in the Texas Capitol. Texas already has a horrible problem with politically motivated litigation. Bad actors with deep pockets are empowered to pick judges favorable to them and file lawsuits that NO ORDINARY CITIZEN can afford to defend. SB 336 would GUT OUT the basic essential protections found in the Texas Citizens Participation Act. It would absolutely cripple your ability to defend yourself in Court against frivolous litigation. This bill is the top prize of a uber-wealthy, litigious taxpayer funded lobbyist, Brint Ryan, and TLR, the organzation that just finished engineering the impeachment effort against Ken Paxton—meant to nullify your vote for Attorney General. Here's the scary part. We know that TLR and Ryan have plenty of lackeys in the House. But they slammed a version of this bill through the Senate last session with no one being aware it was even on the table. That means we have to convince the senators they made a mistake in 2023, or else we're going to be relying on the #txlege House to fight this bill. We know what grassroots allies many House members are. This is an all-hands-on-deck, number one priority matter. The bill is expressly contradicted by two planks of the Republican Party of Texas platform, which calls for the state to preserve the TCPA intact and keep its essential protections for the grassroots. You can learn more about SB 336 and the growing coalition of voices opposing it (and other efforts) to cripple the TCPA here: protectfreespeechcoalition.c…

Wendy Davis is all in for toll roads, too - especially privatized toll roads like the one she brought to Ft. Worth on I-820 allowing Cintra to gouge Texans for over $3/mile!
Wendy Davis’ radical & extreme views will no doubt excite the likes of Nancy Pelosi & other DC liberals. I will continue fighting for the hardworking families of #Tx21 & the commonsense values that make Texas everything Washington is not. #Life, #Liberty, & #PursuitOfHappiness

Call me crazy (they do in DC), I believe we should read the bills we vote on… low bar.

TURF released its anti-toll Report Card for the #txlege today. See how your lawmakers voted. Hint: Not likely good news when 67% of lawmakers earned a failing grade! tinyurl.com/y56j6nzo
