I can't express this loudly enough. If you are involved in the grassroots in Texas—your number one priority needs to be defeating Senate Bill 336.
—You're a pro-life activist? This session you're working two issues, not one.
—You care about taxpayer funded lobbying? That's your number two issue this session.
—You care about gun rights? Again, that should be taking a back seat to defeating this bill.
Why? Senate Bill 336 will cripple your ability to operate freely as a grassroots activist. And it is being backed by the most powerful interests in the Texas Capitol.
Texas already has a horrible problem with politically motivated litigation. Bad actors with deep pockets are empowered to pick judges favorable to them and file lawsuits that NO ORDINARY CITIZEN can afford to defend.
SB 336 would GUT OUT the basic essential protections found in the Texas Citizens Participation Act. It would absolutely cripple your ability to defend yourself in Court against frivolous litigation.
This bill is the top prize of a uber-wealthy, litigious taxpayer funded lobbyist, Brint Ryan, and TLR, the organzation that just finished engineering the impeachment effort against Ken Paxton—meant to nullify your vote for Attorney General.
Here's the scary part. We know that TLR and Ryan have plenty of lackeys in the House. But they slammed a version of this bill through the Senate last session with no one being aware it was even on the table. That means we have to convince the senators they made a mistake in 2023, or else we're going to be relying on the
#txlege House to fight this bill. We know what grassroots allies many House members are.
This is an all-hands-on-deck, number one priority matter. The bill is expressly contradicted by two planks of the Republican Party of Texas platform, which calls for the state to preserve the TCPA intact and keep its essential protections for the grassroots.
