I’m beyond excited for Mike Seavers to succeed me as CTO at Yuga Labs. The contract owner has now been burned. While we’d been meaning to do this for a long time, we hadn't out of an abundance of caution. Felt comfortable doing it now. All done.

In the model we’re proposing, creators can add any smart contract address to the allowlist that they choose, including addresses for lending protocols, vaults, etc.
yeah reading through it again and getting thoughts from people much smarter than me
this would impact a core component of NFTs and slow down innovation

Under this model, creators have full control over which contracts are added to their allowlists. They can choose to use an allowlist maintained by a DAO or some other governing body, one that is entirely their own, or a combination of both.
This is really dangerous imo. It would create a gatekeeping governing body which would eventually be riddled with internal politics and stifle innovation on the marketplace front as a result. Imo governance is still unsolved so converting this to a gov problem is a regression.

It's a footnote in the blog post, but we also propose allowlisting code hashes for common implementations of things like smart contract wallets — this could also apply to things like escrow contracts and other tools

This actually enhances security, since compatibility will be limited to contracts that are known to be secure / battle tested

The central, "governed" allowlist would serve as a trusted set of contracts that creators can use as the jumping off point for their own allowlists.
