Some news to share: After serving as CEO the past couple years, I’m moving into the role of Chairman of the Board, and @mfigge will become Yuga’s next CEO. Figge is the absolute best person for the job. There’s no one I trust more to lead Yuga through this next chapter. He’s relentless about product quality, he thinks longterm, and he knows how to take a vision and make it real. His work on Otherside the past year is proof of that, and you haven’t seen the half of it. And I’ve loved watching Figge get his hands dirty in the world of BAYC over the last few weeks. The club is better for it. Creative direction, writing, and figuring out insane ideas is still where I do my best work. And with Figge taking over the CEO role, I get to go back to it. I can’t wait for what Yuga builds next.

Some news to share: I am stepping back in as CEO of Yuga Labs. Wylie and I are grateful for all the contributions and operational rigor Daniel has brought to the company, and appreciate his thoughtfulness and mentorship over the past year. I’m reinvigorated to be taking the reins for our next chapter. Looking at what’s ahead for Yuga, we need to execute with a more cryptonative focus across the entire company. There’s a couple things that are top of mind for Wylie and I: -BAYC: Appreciate everyone coming out to the first “Bored Meeting” this past weekend. To sum up our thinking around BAYC in the briefest possible terms, the utility of BAYC comes from the network. From everybody who is in the club. That’s why ApeFest is so special, why Made by Apes has seen explosive adoption, why the clubhouse itself is so hype, and why BAYC is able to collab with some of the biggest brands in the world. We want to unshackle the BAYC team at Yuga as much as possible to execute against its vision. More focus, more agility. So it can do the above, and create the space for the magic and crazy shit we used to get up to more often. Focus and agility requires autonomy. Step 1 is already done. A new company, “BAYC LLC”, was created as a Yuga subsidiary and will be responsible for everything BAYC. We’ve got a crack team of ninjas on the BAYC team, but there’s still a couple important roles to be filled over there. -Otherside: Otherside should be the living room of web3. The default space you go to in order to play and hang with your community (no matter what community that is). Otherside is also a massive swing for the fences. We’ve got a lot of work to do. The only way it gets built properly is if you all come in and experience it more often. When we set out to build Otherside, the goal was to make it a public, iterative process. I’m confident in the work our team has done to get us back to this plan, and our communication is going to ramp up this week starting with “Apes Come Home.” And we need to follow it up with a lot more frequent communication starting now and throughout the year. -Gaming: We need to approach games at Yuga with a tighter focus on what works. For us, that’s a barbell approach: 1) crazy fun play patterns that any kid at heart can enjoy. The more wildly fun and mass market, the better: like Dookey Dash. This is all about opening the funnel and flooding our ecosystem with millions of new users, and leveraging that to create opportunities for creators, IP holders, and pro players. Stoked for how this is coming together with our friends at @farawaygg 2) Cryptonative mechanics and platforms, like [redacted]. We’re going on three years since Yuga was founded, and we couldn’t be more excited about some of the stuff we’ve got in the pipeline. Extremely grateful for the team that’s assembled here across all our brands. There’s a lot of work to be done, but I couldn’t imagine doing it with any other team, or any other community of builders. Thanks for your support. For those who will be there, I’ll see you at NFT Paris.

wanted to put together some longer form thoughts on hv-mtl ahead of the launch tomorrow - Two years ago, the summer after BAYC launched, @gordongoner and I had an idea for a brutally hard old school arcade game. It was going to be trippy and excessively dark and we were pretty stoked on it. Hopefully some of that original creative we had back then will come to life someday. But the general concept behind the game stayed with us even if the creative got shelved: An impossible-to-beat game with a limited number of plays available, where, at the end of it, each player would be granted a unique NFT character tied to their position on the final leaderboard. We wanted it to feel like a game that exists on only one old school arcade cabinet in the world, and it’s only available for a week before the whole thing burns to the ground. But if you play, and you kick ass, you’d get a unique character to take with you that would serve as a totem for the game experience, a flex showing off your skills against a globally competitive leaderboard, and your key (and your character) for the next limited-time game event. The idea stuck with us because it embodied in a very simple way what we found most interesting about the potential of gaming NFTs. First of all, the obvious things: Verifiable digital scarcity. Provenance. Ownership and hardcore flexing. New opportunities for esports. It felt like something that we, personally, would mint the living shit out of just based on that. But most importantly it leaned into the fact that in crypto, as a game sunsets, parts of it—like an on-chain character—could live on. Rather than just going poof when a game is shutdown. (Moment of silence for my beloved druid, floating in nothingness ever since the original EQ server he was on got unplugged) So what better way to display this use case for gaming NFTs than with an absurd, ephemeral game, built to exist only for a short time? When that first game sunsets, a brief pause– and then onto the next one. Bring those characters back. Pick up where they left off, or drop them into an utterly new, different experience. These 'mini-games' would then eventually ladder up to a tentpole experience that would be that much richer for all the love that went into the journey. Dookey Dash was born out of a lot of these ideas. Plus some of our usual BAYC insanity. It was a riff on the endless runner genre popularized by stuff like Temple Run. Except you’re in the sewers beneath the Yacht Club, competing to be the first to get to the end of the tunnel, where a magical key awaits (stuck in a monkey’s butthole though, important in life not to take yourself too seriously). Dookey Dash was live for just a couple weeks. At the end of it, we had our winner in @Mongraal, a Fortnite pro with insane reflexes. Mongraal and everyone else who participated in Dookey Dash got a little mech, called a HV (pronounced Heavy). There are 8 types of HV’s, each corresponding to a different section of the leaderboard. These HV's are currently in their 'Evo 1' form. Basically, Charmander stage. They're a little cute even though yeah they could probably fuck you up. As far as mechs go, they are basically pre-adolescent. Forge is how we take a HV from Evo 1 to the next stage. You won't need twitchy reflexes like you did with Dookey Dash. This space is creative, social, and funny, so Forge was designed to tap into all that. You can win and just be... chilling. The game starts off as a mix between a pet game and a casual world builder, but later develops into a dungeon crawler. Unlike Dookey Dash, Forge will be live for a couple months (then poof again). Stoked to see what everybody builds in the Forge, and to break into the rift with you all. For those looking to stat studying up, the team has put together a game guide (hv-mtl.com/forge-game-guide) and FAQ (hv-mtl.com/forge-faq), but there's also some video content breaking down the same coming ahead of launch tomorrow.

gm, wanted to share an update on punks: when we acquired the collection a couple years ago, we did so with the intention of preserving the legacy of the collection. we see punks as the early cave paintings of this new medium, and we were heavily influenced by them when creating our own spin on what an NFT collection could be with BAYC. the team had a vision of collaborating with world-class artists to bridge web3 with the traditional art world. Nina Chanel is known for her graphic large-scale pieces with bold and colorful palettes. Her work is everywhere: MoMA, the Whitney, you name it. Matt and John were ecstatic to learn that she would be a CryptoPunks artist in residence, and so was the team. Our plan is to get Nina’s latest collection into the hands of those who have been supporting her work in this space by making it available only to SuperCoolWorld holders. Current thinking is via randomized airdrop. What about punks? Yuga will no longer touch punks. They will just be decentralized and preserved on the blockchain. The only thing we intend to do is support a few museums and institutions in their quest to acquire a punk and help educate their audience about them.

We just heard back from the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals on the RR BAYC case. The Ninth Circuit confirmed: BAYC NFTs are protectable trademarks, which is an important win for every NFT holder. We'll now finish the fight in the district court, where the judge already fined the RR BAYC founders $9m+ in damages. We'll win in the district just like we won before. Onward.

The best tokens do something novel for their distribution. Something that is happening for the first time, or is bucking the trend in a significant way. CryptoPunks were free to claim. Bored Apes were a flat-priced mint at $200 when the world was obsessed with Hashmasks style bonding curves. Fartcoin was an AI agent's idea. etc. The problem is, once a new model is proved out, it gets beaten to absolute fucking death by a thousand copycats. After the Bored Ape mint, we saw thousands of adjective-animals mint out at flat prices. After Fartcoin and Goat we had a whole lot of AI agent slop. On and on it goes. What was previously a democratized way of doing a launch is now anticipated and farmed. Cause the hardest thing in crypto is unironically a 'fair launch.' What's the lesson? In this meta, where cycles are moving faster than ever, you can take the cheap way out and do what everybody else is doing in order to ensure you get the initial eyeballs. But then you might just bleed out - since you just did what is, by definition, the least scarce thing for your distribution. Now if you do something new and novel, it will be an uphill battle at first. You'll have to pound your fucking chest to get the same eyeballs. People throwing FUD will have their scripts already written for them. But if you make it through the valley, you win. And you get to watch everybody desperately flail and copy your shit.

Been a busy, hard four months since I stepped in as CEO of Yuga but stoked for July. Early on Gordon and I would say to each other that the job of an NFT founder is to eat shit sandwiches. Do hard things and smile and move on. Fair share of shit sandwiches and hard choices over the last few months. But our bi-weekly "What's Up Yuga" meeting where we demo all the things being built throughout the company has gotten to be incredible. Tons of delightful stuff being made, at a faster clip than ever before. More of what we're doing and how we're doing it is under my supervision than at any time since 2021. And Gordo making time to sprinkle his juju on stuff the team is working on too. There's a lag time of course. Nothing we've been working on since I've been back has shipped. But that changes next month.

We’ll be changing the logo and updating it on our site / ask marketplaces to change as well. This collection was meant from the start to be about raising money for charity and I’m proud of the fact that BAKC raised over $1m for animal charities. Will debut the new logo soon so we can continue to do some good work for causes we care about.

OpenSea wasn't the first or only NFT marketplace, but it was the one that had the foresight to provide royalties for creators, resulting in network effects that grew this space 1000x and attracting creators who'd grown sick of labels, studios, and web2 platforms. That foresight enabled us to launch Bored Ape Yacht Club: a club and a lifestyle brand that started as a crazy idea between some friends, and has grown to partner with the likes of BMW and BAPE, host a festival around the globe, and launch a digital world. Among a ton of other dope shit. While today royalties are supported only for ERC-721C collections, we've been heartened by OpenSea 2.0's drive to be more creator- and community-aligned. That's how we grow this space 1000x again. See you ApeFest 🦍⛵️🌊

shortly after I took over as CEO, we created a new division at Yuga to focus exclusively on emerging products. we call it The Workshop. 13 of our best engineers and product people. no fat, just doers. we have a deep well of technical talent here that was squandered on trying to swim against the current. I wrote about some of that before. in short: you will never compete in crypto by trying to be some web2 mega corp rollup frankenstein. so how do you win? you win by shipping content, tools, and gasoline on-chain, all the time. content people love that they can't get anywhere else the best tools for a community full of builders with cult like affiliation and degen shit take coinbase's move to go all-in on base as the lesson. make delightful shit, on-chain, fast. make new primitives and protocols or re-mix old ones. dapps not apps. the workshop is one of the primary ways you're going to see us doing that in the coming weeks and months, as we roll out that team's first set of products on ApeChain. but to be clear: i don't know if the first products that roll out the shop are going to be hits. when something doesn't work, we'll kill it. with love, but no mercy. and we'll ship something new and entirely different. we'll get addicted to the 8-12 week product cycles that we practiced in our first year. this new yuga looks a lot like the first yuga. but it's not for everyone, and we've had to say goodbye to some folks as we cement this direction. but our internal demo days are filled with stuff that makes me laugh or wonder how the fuck it got made so quickly. and it all makes me itch to send it out into the world. we're going to start doing that soon. on ApeChain.

The Dookey Dash key was always meant to have a dual role - first as part of BAYC lore and our story going forward, but also as a HV that participates in gaming activations. With HV-MTL (and the key transformed into the legendary HV) under Faraway’s stewardship, we’re going to be minting a new 1 of 1 version of the key which will stay part of the BAYC ecosystem and airdrop it to the holder of the legendary HV. For Otherside's First Trip we had 4,500 concurrent players. Second Trip: 7,200. Next month we're doing something a little different. Otherside's Project Dragon will feature similar mass density numbers, but this time we're adding action gameplay. Guns, grenades. Capture a point and defend it. With a thousand+ people on your team. Will it be janky at first? Probably. Will it be chaotic? For sure. We'll be iterating on this model continuously, holding a new Project Dragon event with more features every single month. More importantly: All the components we use to build Project Dragon, we're going to bake that content and those blueprints down for other builders to use and make stuff with the ODK, our extension of the MSquared World Builder. We make shit. We give it to you. You make shit too. And if any of us ever hit it right, like WarCraft III's custom games / "use map settings" birthed countless stand-alone games and entire genres like MOBAs. Then we're off to the races. Because web3 rails make modding, custom games, monetization, owning part of a network, etc all so, so much better than the legacy web2 model.

Want to make the absolute highest quality vinyl toys for BAYC. KAWS-quality. Have a design am already falling in love with. Will be to Curtis/BAYC what Baby Milo is to BAPE. Who should we be working with on making them a reality?

one of my goals on this app is to turn every single person who lives their life salty here into someone who tries building something started Yuga with two months of my salary from my 60k/year job as a book editor and dm'ing all my friends until I had takers (and I'm an idiot btw) there are hyped projects here that are literally forks with one line of code added, but they are hustling just get off the couch gm

Personally would love to see an $APE treasury company Bonus points if it also buys and holds Bored Ape NFTs Should we make it happen?
Who would like to see an @apecoin $APE listed public treasury company? @animocabrands has been involved in a number of of them most recently @ddcbtc_ and @DigitalXLtd all of them have done well for $BTC like, comment, tag and RT and lets see if we can make it happen!

Moonbirds has been acquired by @ocapgames Spencer and the team at Orange Cap Games are among the smartest, most detail-oriented builders in consumer crypto. They put love, genuine craft, and a fair bit of neurotic perfectionism in everything they touch (ask @spencer to tell you about him flying to Asia to make sure the printer got the gloss just right for the holos in their trading card game). They created an incredible trading card game, with real physical distribution and a scalable digital platform, and it's got a great mix of casual and hardcore fans. And they've done it all without owning their own NFT IP. That changes today with their acquisition of the Moonbirds IP. Moonbirds deserve a team whose whole world is the birds, and there's no one better than Orange Cap Games to help them reach their potential. As for Yuga, we're laser-focused on Apes, Otherside, and something special we've been cooking up.
Moonbirds has been acquired by @ocapgames. We are excited for our next chapter!

Thanks everyone who came out to stress test this! Had about 2.5k concurrent users running around in the neutral space. Tons of great info compiled to make sure First Trip goes smoothly, and taking all your notes from Discord as well.
Voyagers, both load tests will take place at loadtest.otherside.xyz at noon ET today and on July 9th. We will tweet again when the test is live. There will be a gas-less signature to verify Otherdeed ownership and enter the load test. The test will last approximately 25 minutes.

A huge priority the last several months has been recruiting the best talent in the world to come build at Yuga. For that reason, I'm very stoked to welcome @mfigge, @notmelonpan, and the whole @wenewlabs team here.
Today, we are excited to welcome the @wenewlabs and @10ktfshop team to the Yugaverse. Together we will push the boundaries of where the metaverse meets reality through creative storytelling and immersive experiences. Read more about the news here: news.yuga.com/yuga-labs-acqu…

Worth clarifying: There's only 4 tiers, with tier 4 being highest.
Replying to @BoredApeYC
Pro-tip: When it comes to the mint, Apes (BAYC or MAYC) who also hold a BAKC will be in tiers of their own. There will also be an optional $APE spend mechanic, for those looking to enhance their minting experience.

Stoked to crack open Forge next week. Bunch more content coming between now and then to prep you for the experience, but like Dookey Dash, it will just make sense once you’ve played for a bit.
HV-MTL Forge. Build. Flex. Fight. Evolve. Season 1 begins June 29th.

Super proud of the work that has gone into the HV-MTL collection, but need a little more time before we reveal the Evo 1's. It's a monster of a collection and there's been a lot of firsts for us on this one.
One turn right, one turn up, three down, two up… Fuck!!! Locked itself again. We’ll need more time to figure this out. mdvmm.xyz/

“nobody is going to want to buy an Otherside x Amazon NFT” Reality: demand was so high that all of Amazon’s fraud/bot protection measures kicked in Amazon made me go back and set a new password after buying just 1 😂 They are on this 100% with their tech+fraud teams, Amazon are👑partners. THANK YOU FOR BEARING WITH US We like the box

Heads up that we collect A LOT of gameplay and metadata of every single play in Dookey Dash. While there’s some real-time checks, the in-depth score audit will happen after the game ends. Scores found doing sketchy shit will go to 0 and not participate in the Summoning.
