Property rights are the foundation of true capitalism which requires a competitive market. Web3 and #NFTs can bring the same to the virtual realm through digital property rights. The problems many experience in todays version of capitalism is monopolistic platforms that behave in anti-competitive ways that have erased actual competition which is against the original idea of how capitalism should work. In the digital context #web3 can solve this because the platform we are building on is a shared network owned by the community rather than a single entity or corporation without violating your individual right to private property. Decentralization at its core is a spreading and distribution of power and the more decentralized a network/state/country becomes the more competitive and capitalist it can become laying the foundation of a more free and fairer market. The web2 platforms today are neither free nor fair. They control and determine what we can buy, how we can buy them, what we may see and discover and what prices we can bid on them. We confuse them by thinking they are what is wrong with capitalism when they are acting in completely anti-capitalist ways. For markets to function well we need transparency and just how much transparency do we have when we buy an ad on something like facebook or apple? They are digital feudal kingdoms where none of us (customers) enjoy any property rights at all. At best they are benevolent dictators. Web3 will solve this and just how true capitalism succeeded in the past breaking up exploitative feudal and colonial systems it will do so again - this time digitally in the virtual realm or the Metaverse as some of us like to call it.
