Gov Murphy… this is out of touch. And you prioritize congestion pricing which is really you mostly fighting for the richest 2% of the ppl that can afford to drive their personal vehicles to NYC daily and pay $1000 per month additional to park

This is directly related to supply increases we have created. We have been unapologetically pro growth both market and affordable units despite political pushback at times.

This was a massive missed opportunity for NJ to have been smart in how the state approached congestion pricing. If the state was strategic we would have been able to gain funding for NJT, encourage mass transit for the region + move away from a car centric culture for the environment - those were on the table. Instead most politicians took the easy political approach in just saying it is bad per their polling and by doing that was advocating for the wealthiest 2% of NJ residents. In the end the state got nothing and congestion pricing is moving forward.

Another step towards the end... I just went to a supermarket by my in-laws and this..... They have this robot named “Marty” that cruises around the store - up and down aisles reporting things that spilled or out of normal. #YangGang @AndrewYang has a point about robots.

Veteran Issues are a passion of mine not only because I served but because I feel such personal gratitude to the “greatest generation” before us that served. Over the last year we raised $30k to renovate our VFW Post in #JerseyCity and today was opening/appreciation day.

It’s actually very smart politics for @ZohranKMamdani. If he can execute on it then it shows he can deliver on complex, technical reforms - not just rhetoric. And a more rational property tax system would also create fiscal room for him to advance other priorities. It’s a good starting point on both credibility and capacity building.

We started this week the installation of Jersey Barriers for protected bike lanes throughout #JerseyCity. As we continue to build out the network citywide, this approach of better protection will result in more riders overall as this significantly increases safety

This is wrong and ICE actions should be condemned in the strongest sense. Regardless of your views on ICE, the law is the law—and any facility operating in a New Jersey municipality must follow it. If Delaney Hall doesn’t have proper local authorization, Mayor Baraka had every reason to be there, and every right to demand accountability. Instead, ICE arrested him. Whether it’s disobeying the Supreme Court, flirting with a third term, or undermining due process, we’re watching lines get crossed in real time. This is a dangerous precedent—and it demands condemnation in the strongest possible terms.

As a mayor of Jersey City, I don't think anyone in the state has more direct experience in the state than I do when it comes to mass transit. As Governor, I would cancel the turnpike widening project and reallocate the money to create a system that is safe, reliable and clean. Second. when they passed the funding source, they only did it for 5 years which doesn't fix the problem - this needs to be changed. At tonight’s City Council meeting Bayfront is moving forward. It is an 8000 unit site on the west side of Jersey City of which 35% of the units will be true affordable housing. It is a major milestone for Jersey City and I couldn’t be more proud to see this project finally happen. It is a model for what a mixed income development can be.

I don’t live in NYC nor do I want to but one thing to mention is that I know the idea of public grocery stores has become easy fodder for critics, but if you move past the politics, there’s precedent. This isn’t some radical new idea in the U.S. The USDA, under both Republican and Democratic administrations, has a track record of funding publicly supported grocery stores, including co-ops and nonprofit retail models. These programs continue to offer financial, technical, and planning support to help bring healthy food access to underserved communities and prices down. In Jersey City, we experimented with different approaches to food access. We were the first in NJ to pilot the “Healthy Corner Store” model. We gave it a real shot. It didn’t work as well as I had hoped, but I’m still glad we tried. One major lesson: it’s tough to incentivize store owners to change long-established economic habits, even when the public benefit is clear. Zohran Mamdani won an election that comes with a platform, and I get it criticism comes with the territory. But it’s easier to take shots than to do the homework and realize this isn’t as fringe as some might assume. The current food access system isn’t working. Exploring solutions isn’t a bad thing and shouldn’t be dismissed just because it doesn’t fit neatly into a party talking point. We’d all be better off having a real debate grounded in history rather than one shaped by knee-jerk reactions or partisan instinct.

Great cities have great parks . After 20 years of litigation, we’ve reached a settlement to finally build this long-promised park - final vote tonight. From Liberty State Park to Berry Lane to Reservoir 3, we’ve made open space a cornerstone of our city’s growth.

I’ll be a transit focused governor - This news below is hard to accept. Why? Over the past 20 years there has been a steady decline in PATH service despite an increase in demand. Frequency of service, weekend service all have become more difficult. It’s the reason I strongly feel that NJ needs to set a plan to absorb PATH into NJT and NJT take responsibility with a funded plan for NJT by a Governor that wants to lead on this. It’s a commitment as Governor I will pursue. The Marion section stop, the single ride to Newark Airport… all should be priorities that are driven by NJ + will do that.

We have the JCPD cars in Philly now to properly escort the @PeacocksMBB bus back home to #JerseyCity later tonight. Also this is the signage that is up for them on the turnpike for their drive. Thank you from a grateful city + state.

Obviously, last night didn’t turn out the way we hoped but I just wanted to take a moment to express my deep appreciation and gratitude. The hardest part for me is that there’s not much I’d go back and change. I felt our campaign was substantive, thoughtful, and true to the kind of change we wanted to bring to New Jersey. That’s what a campaign should be. I’m proud of the work we did and the way we did it. For now, I’m going to step back from social media and politics for a bit to recalibrate and refocus on some things I’ve put on the back burner. But before I do, I want to say - thank you.

It Will be completed by end of the summer and I’m sure eventually it will be more common. Last night after extensive review of our CCTV system it has now become clear from the cameras that these two individuals targeted the Kosher grocery location on MLK Dr - the 2 JCPD officers that were on a foot post one block away immediately responded/engaged

The long term vision + a plan to get there is crucial . Jersey City has a second large pedestrian plaza under construction called the Homestead in Journal Square. It will be a corridor from Van Reipen Avenue to Cottage Street with no cars + will be retail only. It was part of our approvals for the buildings + there and now 4 of the 6 necessary buildings started or completed. It is moving fast. It will be an amazing addition to Journal Square

Totally misguided headline + no leadership from Murphy - fact is 98% of NJ commuters lose here. Congestion pricing was a fee on the wealthiest 2% of commuters that could afford to drive their personal vehicles and pay $1500 per month to park. Most regular ppl use mass transit. - congestion pricing was working as commute times were down huge for NJ middle class - mass transit ridership was up in NJ/NY which is good for NJ - environmental justice is obvious The most conservative of elected officials were the fighters of this including Trump and the two congresspeople running for Governor - it’s a question of who are you fighting for?

🧵 On congestion pricing…. I’m in an entirely different place than the press releases in opposition from Trump, Sherrill, Gottheimer, and Murphy. First, This NJ Governor election is about bold leadership and solutions. The question is whether you want someone that just repeats to you what a poll tells them or whether you want someone that understands the issues and actually has core convictions. Do you want someone that is propped up by the same political bosses or someone beholden to you. That is the choice you will make. I’ve been in the same exact place since these conversations started + since I was elected against the political machine in NJ.

Not to pile on but worthwhile to contrast this with #JerseyCity just across the river and a fraction of the size of NYC - we continue to outperform relative to everywhere else in the region. In July we had - 576 new units approved, - 97 permits for building construction issued, - 468 new units issued certificate of occupancy And importantly many new businesses interested in JC that never have been here before. Let’s continue the progress!

This week, we completed major improvement to Newark Ave with pedestrian safety and bike lanes. We have 10 more miles of bike lanes on deck for 2022 - #JerseyCity

I’ll point out that the hypocrisy on the congestion pricing opposition from Murphy, Sherrill, and Gottheimer is that in their opposition they always reference pollution + congestion concerns yet why doesn’t the same reasoning apply to the $12 Billion tax payer funded turnpike widening that will also increase traffic and pollution. Logically if the Holland Tunnel remains 2 lanes (which it is) then the bottleneck to enter NyC is not changing despite this massive project of $12 BILLION = congestion and pollution

Based on our initial investigation (which is ongoing) we now believe the active shooters targeted the location they attacked. Due to an excess of caution the community may see additional police resources in the days/weeks ahead. We have no indication there are any further threats

Just provided a brief update to press as scene is still active but secure. 2 officers struck by gun fire. One of the officers tragically has given his life. 2 other officers receiving medical treatment at the jcmc for injuries unrelated. Please keep these officers in your prayers

This proposal is absolute suicide for NYC and an Absolute dream for NJ. Speaking as both a NJ mayor and the incoming CEO of the Partnership for NYC: I can’t think of an easier narrative to torch supporters of this idea (both politically and governmentally). Even if believe companies won’t move, what remains 100% indisputable is they certainly won’t create a single new jobs in NYC. Reason is this: What people hate in politics is half truths + this graph doesn’t even reflect the entire of what is being said. Raising NY’s corporate rate to “match NJ” while ignoring NYC’s existing 8.85% additional tax (which isn’t in this graph) means NYC companies get hit with a 16%+ burden. That’s not competitiveness, that’s not “marginally” more than neighbors…. Any reasonable person can see the truth in what I’m saying.

We are in the process of buying jersey barriers for all of our protected bike lanes. We are planning on moving from flex posts to more substantial protection in 2022. Pricing is coming back now to make the change as we think it will be safer for the network + cheaper in long term

case Joe’s performance speaks for itself. He prob is responsible for more guns being removed from the streets than any. He was an officer that loved JC, was involved in the city, and one that everyone knew regardless of their precinct.

Re-Allocation of the $10B NJ Turnpike widening project into mass transit investment instead is the next step towards correcting our mass transit issues. Our campaign was the first to float the idea of the CBT dedication to NJT last year that will now be law and now we must continue being proactive with the next reasonable decision towards mass transit improvement. Longer term beyond those we have outlined our detailed transportation plans at stevenfulop.com - we are the only campaign putting our policy bc that is what NJ deserves

Meanwhile in NJ: ▪️ Bergen light rail — 25 years, still waiting ▪️ Glassboro–Camden line — 29 years, no train ▪️ PATH — unreliable ▪️ NJ Transit — deep funding gaps And both candidates for governor? Silent on transit, but eager to widen highways.

As the mayor of Jersey City, I know I’m in the minority on this viewpoint , but I don’t have an issue with PATH raising fares if it’s tied to better, more reliable service which seems to be the plan. Mass transit investment needs to happen I supported congestion pricing even from the New Jersey side because we need a stronger, region-wide approach to funding mass transit. The argument that congestion pricing “only benefits NYC” was always misguided. NJ residents rely on the MTA every day, just as NYC relies on NJ Transit to move its workforce. The truth is simple: our economies are intertwined. A functional transit network on both sides of the river is essential, and we’d all be better off with more cooperation instead of zero-sum thinking.

Jersey City is one of the most diverse cities in the country and it is a place of love and inclusivity - its a special place. As a city, we’ve overcome challenges before and we will do it here as well.

I also said I’m not going to mix words. My opinion is she should resign. That type of language has no place in our schools and no place amongst elected officials. Imagine she said this about any other community - what would the reaction be? The same standard should apply here

This is 100% true: if a mayor spends all their time “taking more meetings” to avoid hard decisions around broad zoning changes, older NIMBYs on Facebook will love you but your city will stagnate. As we finish shiva today for my brother + try to get back to work, I reflect on how short our time is here. I’ll try to be a little more thoughtful, kinder + a little more thankful for moments we’re in w/people specifically in that moment - that to me is the best way to honor him

In #JerseyCity - We are creating new parks and making our streets safer. Today we did the formal ribbon cutting for the new park located at Fairmount Ave - we eliminated car access, acquired property behind the park, and designed a new space for families in the area. #JerseyCity

That’s true - the plan we are experimenting with is that If you get off the turnpike to use our streets to cut through to the Holland Tunnel we will push you down Columbus to Washington ( no left turns beforehand) and loop you behind Target to the back of the Holland Tunnel line there so basically penalizing you for trying. We will monitor how it works and we have officers in the AM.

It’s w/a heavy heart that we share that Councilman Yun has passed away. He was a great co worker and a tireless advocate for the people of #JerseyCity - More than that he was a great father, husband, and grandfather. I can speak for the entire JC community that we are devastated

We are continuing to build out the bike lane network and of course, this will also be protected - the more we can build a safe alternative to cars the more people will be encouraged to use those alternatives. The data shows a consistent increase and we want this to continue - #JerseyCity

If you care about mass transit, the environment or health issues - This is good news and when I’m Governor we will implement a regional plan to benefit the regional transportation system. Just quick recap only one of the candidates for governor had political courage/leadership to say that polling, Murphy. Sherrill and Gottheimer have been entirely wrong in how they opposed this. There are differences in the candidates for Governor of NJ

The reality is transportation in NJ is a mess - whether it is PATH, NJT or the airports. It has been an absolute failure of leadership. Not only do I have the most experience of any candidate for governor but I’ve made fixing transportation a cornerstone of my campaign w/details

It’s good to see a viable alternative - who knows where this goes but I will say that people underestimate Andy Kim at their own peril. Nobody expected him to win initially, nobody thought he would win re-election, he has a compelling story, and he just comes across as a good person.

🧵- I’m going to be the first to comment on this bc I know front office is preparing it. There is a major problem with Transit policy in NJ overall and it is unacceptable for NJTransit to push a large fare increase on regular residents within months of a massive tax break on the largest corporations (CBT). It is just wrong. Despite the rhetoric of a fairer NJ this is clearly the opposite and only undermines trust.

Reading more and more about this agreement in Israel. The hostage release and cease fire negotiated by @realDonaldTrump is a monumental accomplishment and democrats should acknowledge it without caveats. There should be no “But…” or “and…” - this step was elusive for 2 years and he deserves credit. If we can’t acknowledge that then we are blinded by partisan politics and have entirely lost perspective. Let’s hope that step 2 continues progress towards long term peace in the Middle East

I’m w/ Prosecutor @JakeHudnut + JCPD issuing tickets for price gouging. We won’t accept people taking advantage of residents. Tissues, Clorox, cleaning items, all doubling +. Rubbing alcohol went from $2.99 to $6.99. People sometimes can be terrible in how they treat eachother..

It’s a substantial cost for us but the reality is constantly replacing the flex posts isn’t reasonable $$ spend and the rate the flex posts get knocked down in some places speaks to the safety issues for users .

These 2 sets of same pictures tell an an amazing story. We are proud of this one as the change is significant. There were plenty of critics/naysayers when we 1st proposed eliminating cars and turning the street into a 2+ block pedestrian plaza. Here we are.

Sharing the next step for the pedestrian plaza as we are formally expanding the sidewalks on Grove street to make it permanent instead of the planters/paint we put in place during COVID - this change along with the expansion of the green space around City Hall into a park should further expand the energy of the Newark Ave Pedestrian Plaza

We did this but prior to our admin wasn’t political will for change. Now we’re going to extend the area further w/constructing a large playground as an extension on the stretch on Barrow Street between Newark/Columbus. It will energize with children/parents. Will attract family friendly businesses. It’s the perfect size for something meaningful + we’ll start shortly w/community engagement. @SolomonforJC

We don’t live in a perfect world + we’re realistic about our options. We have three BAD choices 1) SLOWLY restore some normalcy to protect the long term health of the city 2) pretend ppl will stay inside indefinitely + wait for vaccine 3) rely on @realDonaldTrump for clarity

Gov Murphy needs to fix this mess he signed. He 100% knew about this - that’s a fact + he still signed it. It’s beyond disappointing that @GovMurphy + legislators would use a pandemic as a smokescreen to privatize Liberty State Park. This is where goodwill u built is destroyed

We’re continuing to install more Jersey Barriers to protect our bike lanes (this is Washington St). A better/safer environment is a win for all as it will lead to more cyclists/less cars. Note: Jersey Barriers in Jersey City in New Jersey - lots of Jersey which is a good thing

Maybe I’m wrong but I think residents would prioritize trains that work before a train fare holiday. Probably the worst option is a train fare holiday on a dysfunctional train system….
