Last night, under the cover of an anti-ICE protest, agitators forcibly entered and vandalized @welcometomannys, a beloved Jewish-owned civic engagement hub and community space. This wasn't an isolated incident; @manny_yekutiel and his establishment have been subjected to a years-long campaign of relentless antisemitic vandalism, which has increased in intensity since October 7th. Broken windows, death threats, and slurs like "Zio," "settler," and "murderer" scrawled on his business's walls are some of the most recent examples.
We unequivocally condemn this lawless destruction of property and violent rhetoric, which is part of a disturbing rise in the targeting of Jewish individuals and institutions. We know where this can lead: we've seen it manifest in violent antisemitic attacks in places like D.C. and Boulder. Antisemitism has no place in our society, and its presence, particularly at demonstrations meant to promote justice and welcome the stranger, undermines the very values such movements claim to uphold.
