The Orthodox title primus inter pares (1st among equals) was also the title of Peter as 1st patriarch in Rome. Orthodox believes in the primacy of Jesus Christ as head of the church. Both claim a direct connection to Apostles, Disciples, Bishops, Councils, and church fathers.
