My Journey
I’m open about my journey on here , and needed to share this with y’all.
Tonight , I found a picture of myself on my dad’s phone from April of 2022.
This pic was after EMS was called at my doctors office because my EKG said my heart rate was 242bpm and blood pressure was sky high.
I was told in the hospital that day that I was in heart failure and had a serious heart arrhythmia.
My heart was barely pumping enough blood to function. We’re talking 20ish percent of its normal function.
After spending a week in the hospital I lost nearly 20lbs of fluid that had accumulated on me.
When I got out, I was “changed”for about a week. The stress of caring of my sick mom and being between career changes put me back on a shitty path diet and exercise wise.
Fast forward a year ish later and I was back to being absolutely miserable.
In late October ish I think of 2023 I noticed
@NjTank99 was starting to walk everyday.
Being a stoolie and following him for a couple years, I thought to myself , shit , if fucking Frank can do this , so can I.
November 1st 2023 , I made a promise to myself that I would get healthy again. I made it a goal to walk everyday, just like Frank.
So for a guy with a masters in exercise science , a guy that used to coach first round NFL picks and MLB players , a guy that was in good shape to weigh almost 400lbs and struggle with walking in a store was, well, tough.
After that first day struggling with a walk, I came the next day and the days after that with a mindset that I was going to change for the good.
Everyday early on I would try to go further , starting at barely .25 of a mile , I soon worked my way to a mile.
After walking everyday since November 1st 2023, I got the news in late January 2024 I was officially out of heart failure.
By simply walking every day for a couple months, I increased my heart function well enough to not be in heart failure anymore. (Ejection fraction if anyone cares).
Still have my heart arrhythmia but I was starting to feel somewhat on a good path.
In January of 2024 I was weighing about 380lbs.
Still positive about my journey , the unthinkable happened, on February 20th 2024 my mom passed away.
Most of you don’t know me but my mom , like many of y’all’s was my best friend , and my job previous was taking care of her everyday.
When she passed away , I still went for a walk that day and thought to myself , Aaron -two things can happen after today ; you’re either going to go back to old you and join your mom in heaven soon or you’re going to keep getting better everyday.
I stayed with the second option and kept walking everyday .
You know how I kept walking everyday after that?
Baseball
I went to almost every MLB spring training stadium in Florida .
I witnessed 17 games , and walked the backfields and stadiums around to keep my walking streak alive .
In March of 2024 , I went to Port St. Lucie for the Mets game, and got to tell Frank , Jenks and Mikey my story in person.
One of the coolest days ever.
After spring training was over , I just kept walking everyday. My weight slowly came down, and slowly cleaned my diet up.
Chugging along, I was making progress slowly but surely.
In the coming months I was returning to a normal blood pressure and was getting off certain meds.
Finally , this March I was actually able to catch a Mets spring training game with Frank and hit my 500th walk with him.
As of today, I have completely shattered any expectations of what I had out for me.I now weigh under 300lbs , still out of heart failure and living my best active life.
I walk everyday still and I actually started lifting again. It all starts with one step people.
If you read this far, I greatly appreciate you.
