My very rough take: Taiwan has a ruling party (DPP) which many voters are unhappy with. An opposition party (KMT) whose founding ideology is no longer relevant, but is yet to find a new one. And an insurgent party (TPP) that appeals to those who are tired of both, especially DPP.
