The complexity of #Ebola response in #DRC demands close coordination across @UN system and humanitarian partners. Together with @UNReliefChief Tom Fletcher, I signed a joint letter to endorse the appointment of Julien Harneis (@julienmh) as a Senior Ebola Coordinator in Kinshasa.

High blood pressure is a silent but serious threat — and knowing your numbers can save your life. Check your blood pressure regularly and track your readings over time. Aim to keep your blood pressure below 140/90 mmHg — and remember: the lower, the better for your heart, brain, and kidneys. Taking action today protects your health tomorrow. Know your numbers. Take control. Stay healthy.

✈️🚄 Travelling to an event or mass gathering in hot weather? ☀️ Plan ahead to protect your health! Before you go: 🌡️ Check the local heat forecast Pack wisely: 💧 Refillable water bottle 👒 Light clothing and a hat 🧴 Sunscreen 💊 Any medicines you take regularly 🧊 If coming from a cooler climate, allow at least a few days for your body to adjust before intense activity. The risk of falling sick due to excess heat is highest during the first few days. 📍When you get to the event, locate the nearest drinking water point, cooling area, and first aid post. ⏸ Slow down if you feel hot or tired. 🚨 Follow staff and organizer instructions if heat becomes dangerous. Protect your health during hot weather bit.ly/WHOBeatTheHeat #BeatTheHeat

Every time I meet with young people, the priority health issue they raise with me is mental health. That's why I was grateful that Veronika Novotná shared with me the “Global Youth Call to Action on Mental Health”. I look forward to reviewing it with my team and supporting it in every way we can. I also invited these inspiring creators from across the European Union to engage with the @WHOYouthCouncil and help shape the future of global health. But there is another issue that will define their generation: pandemic preparedness. No young person should relive the collective trauma we all endured from COVID-19. So I asked them to do one thing: tell the story of the Pandemic Agreement to their communities. The Agreement only works if countries join it. Their voices can help make that happen.

As the #DRC battles an Ebola outbreak caused by the Bundibugyo virus, WHO's updated filovirus disease guidelines — covering all Ebola and Marburg virus types — are designed for frontline health workers. The recommendations cover early detection of deterioration, dehydration and shock management, patient monitoring, safe delivery of critical supportive interventions, and structured follow-up for patients who have recovered from Ebola and Marburg. #StandWithScience

Heat can make people seriously ill. Knowing the signs saves lives. ⚠️Here’s what to watch out for: Headache, dizziness, nausea, cramps, palpitations, excessive sweating or unusual tiredness. Heat and air pollution together hit harder and for people with cardiovascular or respiratory conditions, the effects can be faster and more severe. If you or someone you know starts to experience signs of heat stress: ❎ Slow down or stop activity, move to a cooling area, drink water. Seek help if your symptoms don’t improve. 🚨 Look for danger signs: severe headache, confusion, agitation, collapse, seizures, or not responding normally. This counts as a health emergency. 👀 If someone near you looks unwell, don’t leave them alone. Move them to a cooling area immediately, and call for first aid or alert event staff. 🌡️ Check weather forecast and air quality levels. Share to help more people recognize the signs bit.ly/4xNSOLp #BeatTheHeat

Under the #DRC government’s leadership, the coordinated #Ebola response to the outbreak is starting to take hold. But continued scale up is needed, across all areas and functions. @WHO and partners are working with the government and affected communities to begin clinical trials for therapeutics, to test candidates for safety and efficacy, so patients can have higher chances of recovery

My deepest condolences to those who have lost loved ones in the deadly earthquakes in #Venezuela. The health needs are growing as the response evolves, including for mass casualty management, injury and trauma care, and support for health facilities impacted by power cuts. @pahowho teams are in close touch with the responders and on standby to deploy additional staff, to provide medical supplies needed to treat the injured and mitigate disruptions in health service delivery. bbc.com/news/live/c621z18wzn…

Europe’s heatwave is closing schools and putting people’s health at risk. The data are clear: temperatures across Europe are rising at roughly twice the global average rate, increasing the likelihood and severity of extreme heat in the future. We cannot afford further delay. Leaders must prioritise investment in climate-resilient health systems, while also accelerating #ClimateAction and mitigating the drivers of the climate crisis. For people in Europe, here are some ways to keep yourself cool: bit.ly/3QxIiY8 france24.com/en/live-news/20…

Self-Care Month starts today 🌿 It's a moment to pause and ask: am I actually looking after myself? Self-care protects your physical and mental health, reduces stress, builds resilience, and helps your mind and body function well. It doesn't replace doctors or health workers; it works alongside them. Small, consistent habits. Every day if you can. That's the goal.

"Now to the ongoing conflict in #Sudan. In the city of El Obeid in North Kordofan, the humanitarian situation continues to worsen. WHO echoes concerns raised by the UN Security Council over the imminent risk of mass atrocities, and supports the demand for an immediate halt to assaults. In neighbouring West Kordofan, the State Ministry of Health has reported 734 suspected cholera cases and 105 deaths, since the 15th of May. The outbreak is occurring in the context of health systems disrupted by long-running conflict. WHO and partners are responding to the outbreak by strengthening access to safe water and sanitation, establishing cholera treatment centres, prepositioning rapid diagnostic tests and medicines, and dispatching samples to South Sudan for testing"-@DrTedros

"Finally, countries across Europe and the northern hemisphere are experiencing an extreme heat wave. Extreme heat is one of the most serious and rapidly growing threats to health and safety posed by climate change. It claims around half a million lives globally each year, yet many of these deaths are preventable. Heat affects everyone, but those at highest risk include older adults, people with chronic conditions, children, pregnant women, workers exposed to extreme heat, and socially disadvantaged populations. Heatwaves can also become a major health hazard for people attending mass gatherings and sporting events. During the #FIFAWorldCup, WHO is collaborating with @FIFAcom and host countries on a “#BeatTheHeat initiative”, to develop action plans, raise awareness, establish early warning systems, improve access to safe drinking water, and implement cooling strategies and smart planning. Fans, workers, and event organisers are all exposed to heat. Protecting them sends a powerful signal: health must be at the centre of global events"-@DrTedros
