The issue has kind of resolved itself.
At the founding, we had a House that was directly elected and a Senate chosen by state legislatures. Now we have a Senate that's directly elected and a House that's chosen by the state legislatures.
Washington Examiner: Rep. Keith Self (R-TX) proposes repealing the 17th Amendment.
Repealing the 17th Amendment would end the direct, popular elections of US Senators and return the power to individual state legislators.
