Gone fishing for Aug. 2025. Canadian Radio Host “The Sunday Magazine” on CBC Radio. Prairie gal who adores Toronto. Raptors, Jays, Roughriders. it’s “bunnyhug”
I now live in a fully vaccinated household as my two youngest kids just got their second shots. I know some of you will call me a sheep or worse but I feel good about my decision.
If you point to Denmark dropping all COVID restrictions, the responsible thing to do is also point out the main reason they’re doing it is because they have ample health care and hospital capacity. As usual, context matters.
I know a lot of peoples’ Xmas plans are thwarted.BUT I’m thinking about the front line workers who are CHOOSING to give up their time with family to help us through the pandemic by working. Amazing,
When your uber driver talks about the “new lady” on the radio and how he doesn’t much like her... and he has no idea he is talking about you TO you. I said nothing-btw
Several times each day, even though I know this is reality, I seriously have a flash where I double-check with my brain that this isn’t a dream/nightmare we are having. Anyone else having this “feeling”?
I remember every detail (where, when, who, what I was wearing, what they were wearing, the look on their face, their voice etc), of every time, someone told me "go back to where you came from". This stuff embeds itself in you. You never forget. And yeah, it cuts deep and hurts.
So looking forward to spending Sunday mornings with y’all starting in September. (I got a new job!). Please indulge me, while I say a few other things (a thread)

It's my dad's 80th birthday. We are supposed be in Saskatoon today. Alas. He followed his gf from India in 1967 for a new life in Canada. He was a full-partner in raising his kids. He's one of the funniest and loving humans. I love him so much and I want you all to know that.
Yes, Social distancing is hard. You know what's harder? Getting ill, severely ill in some cases, watching people you love dying. We all need to do our part. No exceptions. No playdates, No playgrounds, No hanging out with friends, no dinner parties, no coffee with friends. Please!
My parents just landed in Toronto (from sask). In just a little bit, my kids will see their grandparents and I, my parents for the first time in nearly 17 months. This is what vaccination affords us and I couldn’t be happier
One of the most discombobulating things in these times is how one day living in a pandemic feels totally normal, the next day, depressing and how I just bounce between the two extremes with no rhyme or reason.
No matter if you think kids should be back in school or not....one thing every parent is balancing in their own head is the risk/consequences of isolation versus the risk/consequence of infection. They both cause concern and worry. And both take up a lot of "brain space"
New Show, New Host, New Photo. Join me, starting Sunday Sept. 13 for "The Sunday Magazine". 9 am across Canada (930 Nfld/parts of Labrador). @cbcradio@CBCSunday. I can hardly believe it. And am so utterly excited.
Curious why many media outlets keep calling the suspects “teens” which they are, but they’re 18 and 19, so are, and are charged as adults. Why don’t they call them ‘“men”?
Ever since my dad immigrated to Canada 52 a years ago, he’s been the biggest tennis fan I’ve known. We grew up watching every game of every tournament. After @Bandreescu_ win tonight, here’s what he texted me:
There were no winners these past three weeks in Canada. Not politicians, not police, not protestors, not the other people of our country. We have a lot of repair ahead.
I went to open a bank account for each of my three kids today. I had to make an appointment and they said would take at least an hourto open them. How is this even possible in 2022?
23 years ago today I started work @cbc. First @CBCSask followed by many locations in both tv and radio. I have quit and done other things during those 23 years but I have to say having my own show @cbcradio with @CBCSunday is a really cool thing. Happy anniversary to me!
HE'S HOME! When I posted a month ago that our indoor cat ran away, hundreds responded w/stories of "happy cat returns". I was hopeful, yet skeptical. Tonight our boy Smokey was found a block away. Thanks for all your good wishes, & checkins Twitterverse. You can be for good.
Our cat escaped and has been missing for three days. I need to share some TRUE stories with the despondent kids. How long has your cat disappeared for before returning home? (And yes, we’ve done all the things you’re supposed to when a cat goes missing)
My first outings were to pick up pizza and get wine. At both places, workers said many customers were unkind. They understand people are stressed, but please can we all try and be nicer to workers who are still at their front line jobs? Grace and kindness go a long way.
This election, with its first racialized leader of a party, is going to show an awful but very real part of Canada to us. I wish it didn't exist, but it does. No denying it.
The man with the microphone in the crowd emphasizes his name as JAAAAAAAAAGmeet, and says “what kind of a name is that?” Says he shouldn’t be allowed to run, and says he should leave Quebec’s secularism law alone.
Who is currently working in their workplace in the space of an average-sized classroom with 25-30 colleagues in that same workspace? That's what we're asking kids and educators to do.
Fact: Any province can use the Astra-Zeneca vaccine for Adults under 55 years old (and those older) . Health Canada has approved its use for EVERYONE last week. Any politician who claims something different, that's on them. And it's not true.

To people who complain about us posting our wordle scores here— I’m like “have you seen the stuff on social media? And this is what annoys you?”. Just scroll on by. Also stop being a fun sponge.
I don’t understand why journalists aren’t asking about paid sick leave and why the government is refusing to bring this in - especially at this point in the pandemic ?
I don't recall any health expert, scientist saying being vaccinated would mean you would NOT get Covid. They've said it will lessen your chances, & more importantly lessen your chances of getting seriously ill or dying. Yes, Omicron is challenging the first pt, but not the 2nd.
Hey @taylorswift13. Can you make a handwashing video to the chorus of one of your songs? MILLIONS of kids and adults will watch it, and follow it (including my kids!)
A reminder: There is GREAT diversity within "black" and "brown" communities--in thought, opinion, lived experience. No one person gets to speak on behalf of millions of Canadians.
Many of OUR essential workers (healthcare, grocery stores, back rooms, restaurant kitchens, factories) have families in India. While they serve Canadians right now, many of them live in hotspots. Some are sick, others sick with worry. Be extra kind to them.
My mama bear got a call today to book her vaccine appointment later this week. She texted me this info. I wept. I didn’t realize how much “worry” this was all causing... but I feel a lot of relief!
So it’s time for me to say “so long” to Sunday afternoon airwaves and “hello” to Sunday morning ones. Today is the last episode @cbcopen. See you with @CBCSunday in September. cbc.ca/radio/outintheopen/cl…
Can/Did the Ontario government explain why those who got AZ for first shot now have to be at back of line for a second dose even if they are willing to get Pfizer? Cuz There’s a lot of rage from the gen x crowd right now, And there might be a good reason for delay but explain it
It's been a great ride these past couple of months. Thanks to both the off and on-air teams @metromorning . And to you--our listeners, really....a big thank you for being so kind and for supporting me while I guest host this show. See you soon.
Props to Saskatchewan on their vaccine roll-out thus far: They're now making it law that every employee must be given 3 hours off with pay so they can go get their vaccine. (also they're going hella fast at vaccinating people)
Please: We did not judge all your fans, and citizens by the actions of Mark Stevens (the Warrior's part owner, who pushed Lowry). So, please do not judge all of our fans, and citizens by the poor behaviour/reaction to Durant by some people.
I find it surprising how many people find it hard how to define Kamala Harris’ identity (trolls aside) It’s easy. She’s American. She’s Black. She is of Indian and Jamaica heritage. She’s not ONE of those things. She is All of those things. That is how SHE self-identifies.
This is one of the happiest photos of me ever. We can all play a role in bringing this pandemic to a close. Science - beyond amazing. A year ago, this moment seemed so very far away. And yet, here we are.
For those of you interested, the name "Kamala" means "lotus". It's also the name of a Hindu Goddess--know for creation and consciousness, and represented as a beautiful woman adorned with silk sitting atop a lotus. And this is how the name is spelled in Hindi: कमल #KamalaHarris
Every mom I have spoken to/ran into this week in Toronto is just worn out. The pandemic, the managing of kids, the uncertainty of what school will be, the extraordinary heat- it’s just soooo much. And it feels like for so many this week it’s been like a plough of exhaustion.
Thought of the day: 1. Not all immigrants are PoC; 2. Not all PoC are immigrants 3. There is no such thing as “2nd,3rd generation immigrant”. The kids born in the place someone immigrates to, say Canada, for example, are not immigrants. #IamCanadian
If booking a vaccine is “so easy” per the Premier and many people are finding it not easy, why don’t they walk people through it with slides during a press conference. A tutorial of sorts. #onpoli
It’s go time. Off to bed. I’m very nerve-cited (mix of nervous and excited) for our first-ever episode of “The Sunday Magazine” tomorrow 9 am (your local time, 930 in nfld). Please join me , and senior producer @BrianCoulton as we take @CBCSunday live! @cbcradio
Omg NYT: is this how you do reporting on “foreign” stories? Where are you getting this bs from? I know your journalists and you are better than this. So do better.
So a man whose truck was illegally parked on sidewalk and blocking it told me my 5 year olds were “rude” for telling him to “move”. I said many more rude things to him than my kids did.
He was 51 and died of coronavirus. The sad story of an Ontario man and the lovely and devastated family he leaves behind. Listen to his widow. ctvnews.ca/health/coronaviru…
How bad are things India? 3 relatives all of whom have been vaccinated have tested positive for covid. One is on oxygen (thank Gods they have oxygen where he lives). All were staying at home but transmission from neighbours in same building may have been the transmission route
Weirdest anniversary yet. Lovers in a COVID time means we live apart on this day, this year. Happy 14th to us. If you’re lucky enough to have Pete in your orbit, you know how blessed I am to have him in mine.
A wee bit of news. Don't worry @cbcopen fans, we'll have a great lineup of shows for you as well for early 2020--some new ones, some of our best shows from the past too.
I don’t understand the run on toilet paper? If we are under quarantine, I think food and water is going to be more hopeful than toilet paper since this illness doesn’t give you the runs! What am I missing?
Today is one my mentors @amtremonti last day on the @TheCurrentCBC studio mic. Beyond all that she is on air (and she is a giant there), she has been THE most supportive host I’ve ever learned from. I want you to know that about her. I love you AMT.
Whether you agree or disagree with Syria strike, spare a thought for the innocent civilians who already live under perpetual fear for 7 + years and now this.
Afghanistan has fallen like a house of cards. 20 years of trying to make sure that didn’t happen, hasn’t worked. So many lives lost, and destroyed. It’s absolutely tragic.
So we are a small but mighty team and are so thrilled to be recognized. In a world that often seems divided,I’m so proud of this show which tries to bring about empathy, authenticity and understanding.
Carol Off has offered a masterclass not just in journalism, but in decency and humanity as well. She’s a very very good person. She’ll be missed It takes a village in radio and @cbcasithappens team is amazing. Love y’all.
Carol Off will host her final program on Feb. 25, before moving on to work on a new summer series for CBC.
@cbcasithappens will continue with a rotating cast of guest hosts as CBC Radio searches for @caroloffcbc's successor.

Our 10 year old daughter just said: “it’s Thursday, you know what that means right? It’s @CBCTheNational At Issue and cookie night” its become a pandemic tradition in our house. @RosieBarton and cookies on Thursday nights.
I’m not kidding... you can hear “let’s go Raptors” echo throughout the south downtown core of Toronto (which is a big space). It’s marvellous. #WeTheNorthDay
I stopped buying bunnyhugs (or “hoodies” as people outside of sask and Alberta call them ) about a year ago. I thought I had too many. But now since I wear one everyday as my wfh pandemic attire, I’m rethinking my particular life choice. I need more bunnyhugs!
A friend told me that a teacher told her that with kids virtually learning in Ontario elementary schools that this past week was the first time she’s seen the children smile, because no masks. That’s a nice image.
