Hello Phillipp, how are you doing today?
Hey Deji, I’m doing great — the market is heating up fast, and prediction markets are right at the center of it. It feels like the most important narrative in crypto right now as it’s onboarding a ton of normies.
How did you get into Crypto?
In 2017 I landed a job at a big FMCG company. It was hard to get in, but once I did, I realized prestige didn’t mean excitement — it was just boring. Around the same time I stumbled into Twitter and Telegram, discovered Bitcoin, and then the ICO boom.
I looked around the office at my colleagues. Then I looked at the ICO teams — Harvard and Stanford grads, serial founders, people building with vision and style. The contrast was so sharp that I quit immediately and joined one of the projects as a business developer.
I’ve never left crypto since.
Do you have any sports betting experience and What was the initial attraction to Prediction Markets?
As a huge sports fan of course I have a betting experience. However, I was never a high roller. Just made some casual bets to improve my watching the game experience.
What are Prediction Markets and how do they differentiate from gambling?
Prediction markets aren’t gambling — they’re exchanges for information.
In gambling, the house sets the odds and profits from players’ losses. In prediction markets, people trade directly with each other. Prices move with information, not house margins. Each contract is a probability in real time, reflecting collective intelligence about the future.
That’s the core difference: gambling is zero-sum entertainment, prediction markets are peer-to-peer systems where information itself becomes the tradable asset.
And this is where the future opens up: AttentionFi — markets built not just on outcomes, but on narratives and collective focus, turning attention into a new financial layer.
How’d you describe the current state of PMs and where do you think it’s heading towards, say over the next 12 months?
Even though prediction markets have gained real mindshare, I believe we’re still far from the peak. Over the next 12 months the key challenges are clear:
1. Sports betting liquidity. The solution lies in a hybrid between prediction market architecture and the traditional sportsbook vig model.
2. User-generated markets. The winner will be the one who leverages AI to introduce odds, approve markets, and handle resolution.
3. Beyond 0–1. Prediction markets need to evolve past fixed settlement dates and binary outcomes into something closer to perpetual markets.
If these challenges are solved, the next wave of growth will be much bigger than what we’ve seen so far.
I think we can all agree one of the most important discussions in PMs is the concept of Market Making & Liquidity Provision, how’d you reckon this could be improved?
Liquidity is the hardest problem in prediction markets. The way to improve it is to avoid fragmentation. What we propose is a unified pool that supports a whitelist of core markets — the big ones with guaranteed demand. This ensures depth where users expect it most.
At the same time, there should be the option for liquidity providers to take risk selectively in other markets. That way the core stays liquid and reliable, while the long tail of markets can still emerge and be funded by those who want that exposure.
This combination — a shared base pool plus selective market-by-market provision — is how we see prediction market liquidity becoming sustainable.

Polymarket is not built for sports. Yes, it can be better for some really huge markets, but sports bettors want to place 20 bets a day on all sorts of outcomes starting with match winner and including yellow cards, etc.

Two months ago I got a DM from the official NY Post account. They wanted to talk about Azuro for a crypto column. Looked real, so I set up a call.
We spoke for 40 minutes — sharp questions, clear voice, sounded like an actual pro. Then came the twist: they asked me to share my screen and enable “recording.”
Something felt off. I googled mid-call. Turns out the NY Post account was hacked.
In 30 seconds I killed the call, shut everything down, and rebuilt my wallets from scratch. Scariest minute I’ve had in crypto.

A few years back I wrote an overview on decentralized sports betting. Looking at it now, it reads almost prophetic - every protocol or dapp I called out as weak either disappeared completely or is fading into irrelevance. But the sector itself hasn’t advanced as much as it should have, weighed down by the same recurring challenges.
Today, only three players really remain: Polymarket, Overtime, and Azuro.
Polymarket leads in raw user numbers, but their design is mismatched for repetitive events. They either spin up low-liquidity markets or take on the risk themselves by providing liquidity - neither is sustainable.
Overtime and Azuro both run on a player-vs-pool model, but the difference is structural. Overtime is like the Uniswap of betting while Azuro v3, on the other hand, is closer to Hyperliquid - faster engine, deeper infrastructure, more technical ambition.
Yet both face the same paradox: the very problem decentralized betting solves - no KYC and guaranteed payouts - is also its Achilles’ heel. By shielding casual players from the arbitrary freezes of Web2 bookies, we inevitably attract professionals extracting maximum value from liquidity pools.
Still, there’s no question in my mind: sooner or later, all sports betting will be executed through smart contracts. The open question - and the interesting part - is how we’ll navigate the path there and what the winning architecture will look like.
