I did honors math at Stanford - not quite as hard or legendary as math 55 but similar vibe. A friend who was fantastic at math was so close to quitting because they wanted to make it purposefully hard, a coin flip away. And he ended up crushing by the end of school. I did GS TMT 2 summers and then became a founder. Amount of hours is much easier to do when work is straightforward (see many residency program hours). For being a founder, decision making is much more important, and brains need to relax sometimes for that
