I welcome the UK’s Defence Investment Plan. Stronger UK defence makes us all safer. This is a good step towards reaching the 3.5% of GDP on defence agreed in The Hague last year Defence spending and production will be an important focus of the #NATOsummit next week

Cash is crucial, but you cannot stop a missile or a tank with a dollar or a euro. We need to turn the cash into combat-ready capabilities, and fast. This is another top priority for the #NATOsummit in Ankara

Defence investment is a top priority for the upcoming #NATOsummit in Ankara We need to spend more & better so that we can defend every inch of Allied territory, today & in the future Allies are really stepping up. Over the last decade, European Allies & Canada have spent an extra 1.2 trillion US dollars on defence. In 2025 alone, they increased their defence investment by nearly 20%

We made good progress during our last meeting of #NATO Defence Ministers before the #NATOsummit in Ankara There’s strong commitment to get defence spending to 5%. Some Allies will even get there this year So European Allies & Canada are really stepping up with record increases last year and more to come in 2026 #DefMin

Looking forward to welcoming Defence Ministers to #NATO HQ tomorrow to discuss final preparations for the #NATOsummit in Ankara Allies will highlight how they’re delivering on commitments made in The Hague last year - investing 5% of GDP in defence by 2035 I expect clear, concrete & credible plans to reach that goal. And many Allies are already showing that they are doing exactly that #DefMin

Great to speak with 🇺🇸 & 🇧🇪 defence industry representatives. A strong transatlantic industrial base is essential to our collective security. And our defence is strongest when we combine the ideas, assets & industries we have across the Alliance We need to produce and innovate more — together, to keep us all safe

I just spoke with President @NicusorDanRO of Romania about the Russian drone that hit a residential building in Galati. I assured him of NATO’s absolute solidarity with Romania and expressed sympathy for those injured in the incident. I affirmed that NATO stands ready to defend every inch of Allied territory. We will continue to enhance our readiness to deter and defend against any threat, including from drones. Russia’s reckless behaviour is a danger to us all. They continue to target civilians and civilian infrastructure across Ukraine. And last night showed yet again that the implications of their illegal war of aggression don’t stop at the border. Russia’s war needs to end, as does Russia’s disregard for civilian safety. For our part, we will continue to strengthen our deterrence and defence at home and continue our support for Ukraine as they defend against Russia’s aggression.
