i joined s4 @_nightsweekends i got to the final 32. i was in @_buildspace sf2 5 things i wish someone told me when i started s4: 1. follow the process submit the weekly updates. it will be hard to do them all. don't try, just do. 2. focus on your journey don’t get distracted by other people: - going viral - making lots of money - getting highlighted by the buildspace team - etc. it’s about you making progress on your ideas. if you focus on your journey.... you will make progress. it's that simple. 3. don’t get ahead of yourself just take it one step at a time. you have to crawl before your run. it’s called “baby steps” for a reason. just focus on making small progress every week. small progress snowballs. don't focus on winning the grants or getting into sf3. just focus on making progress. they will notice you... or they won't. you can't control that. but you can make progress on your ideas either way. 4. pay-it-forward if your idea is not getting noticed by builders in S5... don’t go asking for attention. give other people some attention, encouragement, feedback, retweets, etc. but be genuine. people can tell when you aren't. someone will find you and do the same. but if they don't read #2 again. 5. enjoy it life is short. you could die tomorrow. working on your own ideas... will be stressful, frustrating, or disappointing at times. but if overall, if you aren’t having fun… you probably aren't working on the right idea. it’s that simple. the harsh truth is you probably aren’t going to become a billionaire or famous or win the nobel peace prize. so you better enjoy the journey no matter the outcome. that’s it. if you have any questions, comment below—i’ll answer what I can.

YC interview update: firstly I'm blown away by how supportive YC founders are. dozens of people offered to mock interview us. but our YC interviewers passed on us. their feedback: too early, "more like research" we have 2 weeks to prove them wrong. we are looking for 10 apps to add AI-powered UI. we will work around the clock to implement it for you. like how we just built this analytics chat for a friend in 12 hours:

Tambo is now 100% open-source. 🫣 @tambo_ai is an AI orchestration framework for your React front-end. Have your AI assistant render react components in-line or update the state of components in your UI all via natural language. Add tool calls with MCP or existing fetch requests. Plus thread history, authentication, context hooks, streaming support, and more. Now all free and open-source.

I reviewed ~150 @_buildspace idea slides. Below are my top 10 idea slides. What they have in common simple sentence structure they are very specific. they use jargon to narrow down their idea they make me curious or solve a clear problem they often have a narrow focus what you won't see unnecessary adjectives like ultimate or revolutionary; if you have them just cut those words long lists or multiple outcomes; try to simplify marketing phrases like "printing money" Here are my favorite 10 slides I read. Did I miss any cool projects?

what i learned from @_buildspace sf2 sf2 is an 11-week on campus school for people working on their ideas i think about what i learned at @sharifshameem "roundtable" almost every day after irl -- lesson #3 is critical sharif is the founder of @LexicaArt lexica turns your imagination into reality. you should check it out. it's pretty cool. he didn't start out building Lexica. he was working on an entirely different startup. a low code builder called Debuild. but he was interested in image generation with ai. so he started building an app to help him generate images for himself. he posted it and was getting more traction than the product he had been building for two years. he pivoted this is lesson #1 the best products are the ones you build for yourself first. if you love it, then there will probably be other people who will love it too. i can't tell you how many times i worked on products that i didn't love or even understand or care about. it showed in my work. he talked a lot about his team and how he likes to hire friends. but not just any friends. this is lesson #2 friends who want to "build the room". not just come into a room already built. this is so critical for early-stage teams. but back to why friends. it has to do with the most overlooked type of capital emotional capital. this brings me to lesson #3 the money will outlast your emotional runway damn, that hits hard. i always worried about the money. money has never been the issue. it's always been the emotional part. working with your friends (or people you vibe with) and people who are builders extends your emotional runway. lesson #4 (bonus) @brawnsome asked the most interesting question: what if your friends aren't as skilled or over time the needs of the business go beyond their skill level? what then. sharif made a profound point: the fact that they helped you get to that point is all that matters. that's their #1 purpose to keep you going. for all founders at some point, the needs of the business will and should outstrip your ability. in summary: #1 build products for yourself that you love #2 hire builders #3 your emotional runway will outlast your financial runway #4 the goal of a co-founder is keeping you in the game this is like 5% of my notes from sf2 i'm dropping the rest over the next couple of weeks. stay tuned

7/ Farza was probably the most surprising person to meet in person. from the live streams you'd think he was some mega extrovert. he's actually one of the most thoughtful introverts i have ever met. the guy spends more time thinking than anything else. he just has this way of seeing through the bullshit and getting to the core i asked for feedback from him once on something... instead of telling me what he thought i could better he asked one question: "would you watch this?" in four words, he told me more than he could in an essay. i still use this feedback every day. before buildspace, i was building for all the wrong reasons. farza builds for the only right reason: "love". it's why he closed down buildspace. as much as it makes me sad, i not only respect it, i see it as his final lesson to me, and maybe all of us. he says, "follow your excitement" but i think he should really say: "follow what you love" sometimes, that means breaking up. ty farza for all the good times.

if you are a guy in your early 20s go travel the world. go into the debt if you have to. this is not satire. if your smart you can do this for 4 grand. it will not help you get women or future business relationships. if you do it right you will care a lot less about money and status.

chesski's ig marketing strategy: @_broskitweets creates short-form chess content. If people want to sign up for his app, they can comment on a code word on his post. Then he will DM them the link. He was spending all his time manually DMing people. His account was "blocked" because he wasn't using the "right" messaging features. I set him up with LinkinChat in for about 2 minutes. Now, my app automatically sends the link to every comment. Now this is what his DM's look like:

we just talked to hundreds of people building with ai across: - fintech - edtech - b2b saas - web3 - dev tools - healthtech - hrtech - legaltech 80%+ were building ai assistants. 50% of them had already built some form of generative ui into their assistants. most weren’t happy with what they built — and many were excited to see how we had solved those problems (and more). the other half hadn’t built it yet, but were pumped by how simple we made it to get started. we are accelerating the future of gen UI. thanks @michael_milst, @heyavi_, @alecf for giving back to back demos for hours straight :)
