ALT For all our fears, prior technological revolutions have not resulted in widespread, long-term unemployment. Technologies are tools. And better tools mean people can become even better at their craft or profession. I am not a professional writer—I need all the help I can get. But AI only wrote one sentence in this essay. Instead of writing it all, AI helped me experiment with different directions to take the narrative and how to frame specific ideas. Far from replacing me, Lex has helped me break through in moments writing this when I otherwise would have gotten stuck and thrown in the towel—or tabbed away to some distraction. I think that Lex will make me a better writer. It also makes me more excited about a future where AI helps us get better at everything.

Introducing an upgraded Claude 3.5 Sonnet, and a new model, Claude 3.5 Haiku. We’re also introducing a new capability in beta: computer use.
Developers can now direct Claude to use computers the way people do—by looking at a screen, moving a cursor, clicking, and typing text.

Quick update!
When we sent the email to our users, a LOT of folks came to the site all at once, and our database ran out of memory, causing some requests to fail.
We are upgrading our db ASAP, but in the meantime the site is working better now and should continue to improve

This is a perfect encapsulation of what we want Lex to do for writers.
As writers ourselves, we often get stuck thinking through our ideas or on how to express them, but with Lex collaborating with us in the word processor our flow doesn't stop and we just keep writing.
2. Lex (to find new ideas)
This AI tool has only been released for a week, but already helped me write 4 new essays.
More than simply writing for me, @lexdotpage does a surprisingly good job at developing new approaches and challenging my original ideas.

Ever since I saw @hnshah mention @lexdotpage , I've been testing it out. It's 100% a better word processor/writing tool than Google Docs. The way AI is integrated is done pretty well, and it feels lighter weight, but equally as powerful. Feels faster.

I have been using @lexdotpage for a few months now. At first I didn't think it was any better than Google Docs for me, but after a number of key features dropped...
It is now my favorite word processor for drafting and editing! And the underlying LLMs have gotten better!

Reading about people getting unstuck is the best feeling
It got me unstuck and kept me moving in places where I couldn’t quite articulate or crystalize what I was thinking.
It was impressively spot on to the narrative I was building and I was able to use what it gave me to reframe and make forward progress.

All the data is now being safely copied over to a new database that is much better:
- from 10g to 256g storage
- from 20 to 400 concurrent connections
- full disk encryption
It should be done in ~20 mins
