𝐖𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐇𝐄𝐋𝐋 𝐈𝐒 𝐀 𝐁𝐈𝐓𝐌𝐀𝐏? 🤨 Well.....this one is mine (eyes and chain not included btw 😂) 𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐥𝐲, 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐲 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐈 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞? Every Bitmap is an inscribed representation of a particular Bitcoin Block’s data (block number + .bitmap) My Bitmap is block 252798, so when it was inscribed as an Ordinal, it became ‘252798.bitmap’ In the Bitmap world, each Bitmap is referred to as its own ‘District’ 🗺️ Basically, the creation of Bitmaps has turned each Bitcoin block into the literal building blocks of Bitcoin native worlds. So Bitcoin land is what they are. Each Bitmap/District contains a certain number of ‘parcels’ 📦 On my Bitmap, you can see that there are 5 parcels in total. Each of these parcels, represents a single transaction that was secured in that particular Bitcoin block. It just so happens, that mine looks like a head/face (2 eyes up top, a large nose on the right, a mouth represented by the blank space on the left, and the neck at the bottom). This makes my Bitmap even more significant, as it's a 'Bitmon' but i’ll cover that in another thread.😏 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐬 📦 One of the cool things about parcels, is that the owner of the Bitmap can, if they so choose, inscribe one of them onto a separate Satoshi, creating a new asset. These can then be transferred or sold to someone else. Because my Bitmap/district has 5 parcels, I have 5 natural resources or commodities that can be detached and sold/utilised at a later date. I know this all sounds kinda weird, and that’s because, well, it kind of is! The value of Bitmaps today is based purely on speculation. But then again, aren’t all of our lovely ‘jpegs’? 🤷🏻‍♂️ But the speculation is all built around ‘Bitmap Theory’ A theory presented by @blockamoto, the creator (or ‘discoverer’) of Bitmap. Until a few days ago, I had resisted the urge to read up on it, and had instead, been focusing purely on the fine art side of Bitcoin (things like @onchainmonkey, @metablends and @billyrestey’s BitBlocks) However, with a few friendly nudges from people I respect in the space, such as @spiritzero, @cryptocamnft, @mleejr, @guyimprov & @hashtagzmedia, I was inspired to speed-run my understanding to the point that I now see the almost unfathomable potential for Bitmaps! 🤯 𝐁𝐔𝐓 𝐖𝐇𝐘𝐘𝐘?!! Well, this is not your average “metaverse”! Oh no, no no! For starters, it’s built directly on top of Bitcoin’s data legacy, in as much as the raw data stored within each block since its inception in 2009 is what makes them special (and elegant actually). ✨ They were created using only the building blocks that Satoshi himself intended. To me, this is incredibly bullish, as anything that inherits the core properties of Bitcoin, has the potential to last for decades, if not centuries. 🗿 Also, the free and open mint of Bitmaps makes it ultra decentralised, as a first to mint claim method was used, meaning anyone could inscribe a block number as a Bitmap.✍️ There is a lot of potential for builders to construct worlds or ‘metaverses’ on top of the raw district and parcel data within all Bitmaps. Please notice that I said 'metaverses', PLURAL! 👀 I believe that this is something that many people are not yet fully comprehending, but yet is one of the single most bullish things about bitmaps! 🔥 If you think about all the metaverses on other chains, such as Ethereum or Solana, you realise that they are quite centralised! 😬 Very centralised actually. To the point that it’s almost laughable, considering how they marketed themselves and how we all kind of believed the hype. 🙈 To demonstrate this, let’s think about how that business model usually works for companies like Decentraland or Sandbox. These companies invite developers and brands to construct infrastructure within it. They then expect them to attract users to their world. They’re ONE world, which would very likely not allow people, at least not frictionlessly, to take their assets and use them within a different metaverse. They’re clealry not the interoperable future that we were promised during the last cycle. This is where Bitmaps will THRIVE! You see, Bitmaps itself is not the metaverse! Instead, it merely serves as the base layer for other developers and brands to build THEIR metaverses on top of. It allows for a holder of a Bitmapo to enter a new metaverse with the same asset (their map), but yet their experience would be totally different To explain what I mean, let’s think back to what I said earlier, with regards to Bitmaps being made up of raw Bitcoin data. 🤔 Let’s take mine for example (Bitmap #252798) We have a few data points here: - Block number - Year, date & time - Dollar value stored within it - Amount of bytes stored - Number of transactions, or ‘parcels’ - Avg. fee rate But you must also factor in the type of Sat that a particular Bitmap is inscribed on, as rarer sats will make them more valuable (eg. block 9, block 78, Pizza, uncommon sats etc). 💎 Now, this might all sound like over-thought, semantically granular levels of detail to be considering with Bitmaps, but it really, really isn’t! 𝐂𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 🤌 What all of these data points represent, are the raw materials for any metaverse that chooses to build on Bitcoin in the future! 🧱 For example, if I were to build ‘FITZYVERSE’, I may choose to have the number of parcels within a Bitmap, determine the height of a structure within my world. In FITZYVERSE, any Bitmap with only 1 parcel, could be represented visually as the tallest skyscraper, and then for every additional parcel within a Bitmap, the building could lose some of its height, and therefore, it's grandeur🏙️ Whereas, in another metaverse, let’s say ‘DONKEYVERSE’, they might decide to instead use the data point for total dollar value stored within a block/Bitmap, to represent taller structures/buildings. It’s completely up to them. 🤷🏻‍♂️ In short, any datapoint could be represented however the creator of that metaverse wanted. 🧠 Ultimately, the data points that metaverse developers use to represent the size, colour, movement or capabilities of something within their world, is arbitrary. 𝐈𝐧 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲 Bitmap is not the base layer of a bitcoin metaverse, it’s actually the base layer of the Bitcoin MULTIVERSE!! 🤯 And each bitmap is a key to anything that's built on top of them. 🔑 This is huge in imo! 🔥 It means that as a Bitmap holder, you hold a piece of the base layer of every single metaverse that will ever exist on bitcoin, and as a result, all of them will be trying to attract you to come and use or build in theirs! And if we look at page one of the web3 customer acquisition handbook, it clearly states that AIRDROP SEASON IS KING/QUEEN! 👑🪂 So that's an additional consideration for us all I think 🤔 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐀𝐋 𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓 💭 I only began studying Bitmaps a few days ago, so if you think I’ve gotten any of this “wrong”, or missed things out, then that’s probably why. But I think that this at least provides a good overview of the possibilities with Bitmap. Fidenzas) Artists conceptualise and script unique art pieces in a coding language like JavaScript, for example, ‘p5.js’ To create art on Art Blocks, artists must go through a strict curation process to ensure quality and uniqueness are preserved. Only the finest pieces are selected! 🤌🏻 Once accepted, artists develop and test their script, often using tools like p5.js, and then submit their project for review. Approved collections then go live on the ArtBlocks platform/marketplace. 𝐒𝐨, 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐝𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐎𝐂𝐌 𝐃𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐟𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐧? Well, when the collection was inscribed, the code within the 300 OCM Dimensions contained Java Script libraries p5.js & three.js, so these libraries are now fully stored on Bitcoin! 🔥 So when creating generative art on Ordinals, artists can now cite these visual libraries in order to create their own collections, so the 300 OCM Dimensions pieces are woven into the creative output of future artist's work! 🤌🏻 So to relate this back to ArtBlocks, imagine if there were a genesis NFT on Artblocks that facilitated the creation of all of the Fidenzas, Squiggles, Ringers etc! 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐢𝐭𝐦𝐚𝐩 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 🤷‍♂️ If Bitmap holders cannot build on their land cheaply and efficiently, then Bitmap as a concept will ultimately fail and the assets will trend to zero. 😬 Nobody should have to pay thousands of dollars just to parcelise one map (distribute land parcels), as it is just not scalable. ❌ Land distribution events (LDEs) as pioneered by @TheBlockRunner literally remove the prohibitive costs, and they also preserve the on-chain provenance for both the Bitmap holder, and the individual land parcel owners. 🤌 With this in mind, I don’t see any vantage point from which that can be logically attacked tbh. 👀 They simply utilised the highly advanced features of @tap_protocol to enable Bitmap builders to build cool s**t on their land! 🔥🤌 If you are someone who believes there is a better way to do it, then build it. 🤷 But if you don’t build it, you kinda don’t have the right to look down your nose at those who actually solve real problems, and move Bitmap forward. 📈 Getting together in spaces and talking conceptually about what might be possible with Bitmaps adds almost zero value to them. 🗣️ It’s great for community building and awareness, but unless you build something that gets actual adoption/traction and become a standard, then Bitmap holders do not benefit financially from what you’re doing. 🤷‍♂️ However, solving fundamental scaling issues, and enabling the development of highly-advanced Bitmap economies on maps absolutely adds value to them. 💰 For me, the choice is simple. DMT-NAT is a tokenised representation of Bitcoin’s security budget deficit. As the value stored on the network rises, the cost to secure it must rise in parallel, otherwise, the risk of attack increases. But block rewards keep halving, and Bitcoin’s price won’t double every four years forever. 🤷 So miners are fully incentive-aligned to support the token because it’s 100% net profit on top of their standard BTC block rewards. The @tap_protocol’s DMT support and block reward mechanism delivers DMT-NAT directly to miners, and is already being acknowledged by major mining pools. Also NAT is literally unstoppable because its production is tied to the bits field in every block, which is a core consensus parameter that can’t ever be censored or removed.
