It’s been a wild week. On Wednesday, we announced the Solana Social Explorer, an open source social block explorer built on Tapestry. We’ve been heads down working alongside hundreds of social builders on Solana, and the Explorer was an attempt to (1) solve a social discovery problem we saw everyone in the ecosystem facing, and (2) demonstrate how easily great social apps could tap into Tapestry’s social graph.
Alongside the Explorer, we launched $SSE on Pump.fun to commemorate the moment. We’ve seen a massive outpouring of support over the last couple of days, an influx of interest from builders and consumers alike. We couldn’t appreciate that more, and we’re excited to continue to build for and alongside you all.
We’ve also gotten a lot of questions, so I wanted to take a moment to answer them directly:
SSE is only one product that our team has built on the Tapestry protocol. The token is only affiliated with this single product. $SSE is not the official Tapestry protocol token and we currently have no plans for an official protocol token.
We are actively integrating $SSE into Explorer to drive utility, will continue to build out and improve the product, and have plans to support builders that use Explorer as scaffolding for even better products. I'll let you know more about this soon.
We’re shutting down the official Telegram for $SSE given the overwhelming energy needed to moderate the space. Any announcements about the Explorer and its affiliated token will come from our team directly on Twitter.
We locked 100% of the team’s allocation of tokens (21% of the total supply) because our primary focus is creating value for the Solana social ecosystem. We are committed to our vision and we are not selling.
We’re going to continue to stay focused on our mission to build the Tapestry protocol, the Tapestry product suite, and help Solana social builders win.

If you’ve been following vibe-coded games over the last month (and have tried making one yourself), it should be abundantly obvious that we are very close to someone building a “creation” ecosystem—or App Store—where anyone can be a game developer.
And success of the creators within this future ecosystem will be determined by pure merit of their concepts, not technical execution.
The only gap that needs to be closed for this ecosystem to exist is abstracting away the remaining pieces that are too complicated for the layman: authentication, server networking, and deployment.

Identity and social infrastructure is hard. There will be many more attempts to solve these problems, each with their own pros/cons
@usetapestry’s goal has always been to make the best data and infrastructure accessible.
We aren’t opinionated re: the best individual social protocol or ID system.
We just think all of this data should be fully composable and accessible through a single API
The internet’s social graph 🧶
Perhaps a controversial take, but decentralized identity and social graphs have been a massive failure at scale. Something like Farcaster or Lens could’ve truly done meaningful things if we as an industry weren’t quick to self aggrandize these concepts and applaud too loudly for their role in evolving the creator space but rather encourage them to move towards solutions for proving humanity and identity like World, which no doubt has its own controversies to debate.
Unfortunately in this race to inevitably capitulate into coins, we’ve handed over the reigns to much stronger and militarized identity systems to prevail and garner significantly overreaching control on user data across more popular apps and consumption habits. In an effort to talk about portable social graphs and creator owned data, we perhaps lost sight of the most important mission: presenting a divergent option to data surveillance.
This isn’t a knock on Farcaster, Lens, or World. FWIW I think they’ve each played a unique role in shaping conversations around sovereign DiDs, and I do have respect for their attempts. We’re learning with designing OfflineID, it’s not straightforward to make a one size fits all solution, yet it’s important to realign on what we as an industry really want to enable and achieve through our technology and our concentrated efforts.
This is an imminent threat that will affect us all, but we’re not really preparing for it in unison.

A common trap for Solana builders is thinking they are building something ‘serious’ and don’t want the same audience as pump/meme coins, etc
