He’s been prime minister for 3 minutes, and already this…here we go 🤷‍♂️
It has been more than two days that the supply of electricity to Gaza has been shut off. It must resume — essentials including food, electricity, and medical supplies should never be used as political tools. Canada must work with our allies to stand up for international law to promote sustainable peace and security in the Middle East and to support full access to humanitarian aid for Palestinian families. As this work continues, both parties must work towards the return of all hostages and the completion of the ceasefire agreement.

WALTZ IN AN INTERVIEW “Well, I think first and foremost, what we saw on October 7 was a horrific act of violence against the people of Israel. They have certainly, and the vice president said it, I’ve said it, have the right to defend themselves, and the United States will always stand by that. But we can’t allow what’s happened in Gaza to happen. The Palestinian people have every right to life and liberty themselves. We need to continue, I think, to put the leverage on to make sure we move towards a two-state solution. I think we’re at a critical point right now. We need the Netanyahu government to start moving in that direction. But I think those folks who are speaking out loudly in Michigan are speaking out for all the right reasons.”

We don’t know if this was a realignment or a one-time revolt, but Jewish voters made a concrete impact on this election (you can see it in PA, MI, GA presidential results and other parts of the country in down-ballot races). Regardless of what you think of the election results, it’s impressive that American Jewish voters spoke — they weren’t going to be taken for granted or rolled over.
The Anti-Israel fanaticism of the far left is entirely to blame for the erosion of Jewish support.

Stop for a moment. Read this. And then imagine being a Jewish leader in Canada. Your newly elected prime minister has just been thanked by Hamas — BY HAMAS!!! (applause for your prime minister from Hamas…let that sink in)— for taking, in the words of Hamas, “an important step in the right direction toward restoring the principles of international law.” What’s your next move? Because right now, Canada’s prime minister likely thinks the local Jewish community is prominent but weak. And this community is not weak.
Hamas thanks Prime Minister Carney for his support. HAMAS — the government of Canada’s new ally in the Middle East.

THOUGHT EXPERIMENT: Read the @Time 100 profile of Noa Argamani and then read the profiles of all the others from Noa’s category. There is an important word that’s missing from the piece on Noa: “ISRAEL” Somehow virtually everyone else in Noa’s category of profiles merits a mention for the country they come from (or the continent in one case). But not Noa. It’s as if Hamas attacked a random group of Jews in a random place. Back to the THOUGHT EXPERIMENT: Is there an actual effort by some in the media to separate the Jewish People from Zion? Or is this simply reflexive (in that some journos just don’t want to use the “I” word when talking about Jews — even about Jews IN Israel — because it makes things more *complicated* and *controversial*)? Do they not even realize that they are doing it?

“Pure joy in the air” is how an Israeli journalist describes the mood in Israel right now. But how could that be? If the Israelis want, above all, genocide and ethnic cleansing, then why would they celebrate a deal that ends the war with no ethnic cleansing and 97% of the Gazans alive? “Pure joy” is not what you feel when your deepest ambitions have just been thwarted. It’s almost as if the goal of the war really was to get the hostages back and oust Hamas. It’s almost as if Israelis are motivated by a deep, dark desire to…live in peace with their neighbors.

It’s NOT protocol for the President to attend an address before a Joint Session of Congress, but it IS protocol for the Vice-President. Harris not rearranging her schedule to be there today is a choice. She has known the date for the Israeli Prime Minister’s address for months and still chose to schedule a conflict. The choice is hers…and the message to the region is terrible.
Watching @dansenor speak to CNN and what I'm hearing, correct me if I'm incorrect, Biden and Harris not attending Netanyahu's speech sends a dangerous message to Hamas. And I'm gleening that Trump would be much worse for Hamas than Harris would be.

My Jerusalem-based co-author @saulsinger (+ bro-in-law) makes an important observation: “Here’s an irony: For years, outside observers have been saying that Israel had missed the window to stop the Iranian nuclear program. First, Israel was being told it was too late, now Israel is being accused of acting too early.” We often hear from Israel’s critics that ‘Of course Israel has a right to defend itself, but….’ There’s often a *BUT*. Which means Israel’s supposed right to defend itself is theoretical, because it never seems to be the right time and way to exercise that right.

I am just returning to the U.S. from France — it’s even worse than you describe here, Hen, and I was expecting it to be pretty bad.
Being Jewish in Europe this summer means not telling colleagues you’re spending your holidays in Israel. It means hiding your kippa under a hat. It means whispering on the subway when asking who’s coming to Rosh Hashanah dinner. It means leaving synagogue quickly after Shabbat because lingering outside is dangerous. It means seeing how people change once they hear your Jewish name. It means being afraid to send your children to a Jewish school because it might be a target. And afraid to send them to a public school because of how other kids might treat them. It means dreading the return to university, where Jewish students are bullied, harassed, and sidelined. It means watching Jewish friends and family grow sadder and more hopeless each day about a future in France, Belgium, or the UK. Being Jewish this summer means living through an unprecedented wave of antisemitism, and watching the world stay silent.

Tortured them first…raped them…mutilated and burned them. This was even worse than what we have come to define as terrorism. This invasion was conducted by a death cult.
Evidence is emerging that Hamas not only massacred Israeli civilians in the kibbutzim—it tortured them before their deaths. Recovery teams say of the 280 bodies in Kfar Aza and Be’eri, 80% had been tortured. This is why we will destroy Hamas.

This is being treated by @Columbia as a PR crisis, not an issue of principle & values.
.@Columbia keeps digging its grave deeper. @KhymaniJames’s famous rant in which he said that “Zionists don’t deserve to live” was apart of a disciplinary hearing led by the Columbia University’s administration in January—four months ago! So the administration knew this person supports and promotes violence, including the killing of members of Columbia’s community, and they still decided he could remain a student at @Columbia. You can see that members of Columbia do not want this person a part of the community and acknowledge that the administration messed up by not immediately suspending him. The university administration is just as culpable as James. Major reforms need to take place urgently, including with the expulsion of James and the administration that allowed this person to remain on campus. #CallNYPD #CallNationalGuard

Here is an interview with @davidhogg111, who was just elected as a vice-chair of the @DNC. The interview took place in October, just after Sinwar was killed. Democrats reportedly have been having an informal internal debate over the past 3 months on a range of issues, including Israel. One would have hoped that a Democrat with the moral clarity of leaders like @RitchieTorres & @JohnFetterman would be in ascendancy, rather than the ‘both sides’ & ‘Hamas is evil, BUT…’ framing that is absurdly prevalent in response to questions about 10/07. This is especially maddening after last week’s decision by the Senate Democratic Leadership to sink the ICC sanctions bill. Watch the Hogg interview below.
Bill Maher sets David Hogg straight about his anti-Israel views: Bill Maher: "But certainly since October 7th of last year was that it's a place [Harvard] where a lot of people go to get stupid. This week the Israelis finally got Sinwar, the head of Hamas. Would this be a day of mourning for people you knew there?" David Hogg: "I think October 7th was awful, but simultaneously, I think what's happening every day to Palestinian civilians is unacceptable at the same time. And it's possible it's possible to hold both those things." Ultimately, I'm glad that my generation knows that what the current course that we've been on of just enabling the government of Ben Gvir, the government of Netanyahu that was being protested by the Israeli people leading up to October 7th, just acting like, well, they're not again, they're not against they're not against this policy of of prosecuting this war to the end. Bill Maher: "You mentioned Israel wanted a two state solution from the beginning. They gave Gaza back. It wasn't theirs. They weren't running it. What did they do when they had their own state? Gaza was a Palestinian state. They just used it to attack Israel. That's that's why it's so frustrating when people say, well, let's let's just have a cease fire. The best time ever to ever have a ceasefire is right after Israel gets attacked." David Hogg's silence is what happens when someone in a bubble is challenged on their opinions for the first time.

However late it may be, this statement from the White House is strong for a number of reasons, not the least of which is it’s the 1st of its kind that hasn’t condemned antisemitism *AND ALL OTHER FORMS OF HATE * (1/2)
NEWS The White House has issued a statement on the situation at Columbia University: “While every American has the right to peaceful protest, calls for violence and physical intimidation targeting Jewish students and the Jewish community are blatantly Antisemitic, unconscionable, and dangerous – they have absolutely no place on any college campus, or anywhere in the United States of America. And echoing the rhetoric of terrorist organizations, especially in the wake of the worst massacre committed against the Jewish people since the Holocaust, is despicable. Over half of Senate Democrats would deny arms sales to America’s most valuable ally in the Middle East (and to one of America’s top allies in the world). Leave aside for a moment the principle of America’s shared values with an ally that has been under attack on multiple fronts since 10/07 and instead just focus on America’s national interest — that so many Democrats would be this reckless is alarming.

🚨Jewish Democrats, Reps. Adam Schiff and Dan Goldman, sent letter to Biden to “express our deepest concern” about the omission of Hamas’ rape in the recently released WH fact sheet about conflict-related sexual violence.   Letter ⬇️

Just think about how many social and political causes have gotten a spotlight over the years from that stage. Except one.

So there’s now a pro-Houthi-bombing-of-commercial-ships movement. This is all utterly insane. Antisemitism is not only crazy but it makes people who dip their toe in it even crazier.
The crowd is chanting in support of attacking unarmed ships and against the UK and USA for having the courage to stand up to terrorism.

Hope @JohnFetterman reads this @washpost editorial. You have been a voice of moral clarity. Pls don’t let your stature get laundered to cover for these shenanigans to slow down @DaveMcCormickPA joining you in the Senate: “Democrats thumb their nose at the rule of law in Pennsylvania”

Today is the 77th anniversary of the UN vote that created Israel. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to the Jewish people. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to America & the West (on the birth of one of their most valuable allies in the form of a modern state). It’s moving that there is a street in Jerusalem called "Kaf-tet b'November". Normally, Hebrew dates are in Hebrew letters -- kaf tet = 29 -- while English dates are in numbers. This is the only case of an English date with Hebrew letters. It's as if the 29th of November was given the honor of a place on the Hebrew calendar. There's a sacredness about it.

The Red Cross dropped the hostages at the square, signed papers with Hamas as if it were a respectable organization, and left. They will not visit the Bibas family. They won’t offer any help. The Red Cross has completely failed the hostages, and playing taxi doesn’t change that.

Looks like you can stroll through the Upper East Side these days and see the windows smashed in at one Jewish storefront after another. Welcome to New York City…85 years after Kristallnacht.
In addition to Rothschild TLV and The Nuts Factory, a third Jewish owned business on the UES, Level 78 barber shop, was also broken into last night. Photos the Israeli owner sent me show a mezuzah on the smashed front door.

This is the first live hostage rescue of a captive being held in a tunnel. All the previous operations were above ground. Tunnel rescues, I am told, add layers and layers of complexity to what are already dizzyingly complex operations.

Look at this map. Really crystallizes how incredible what Israel is doing. Not just the distance, but the size. As @saulsinger put it to me, “It's kind of like if Cuba were able to render the US helpless.”

The party that @SenSchumer leads has just nominated a “Globalize the Intifada” candidate for mayor of the city with the largest Jewish community in America, and the city that Schumer represents and is his home. I have not seen a single statement from him about @ZohranKMamdani. Must have this Outlook problem again - his statement raising the alarm must be stuck in his outbox.
“Shomer Schumer” will most certainly issue a statement any moment. Stuck in the outbox or something? Must be just a few minutes away.

What’s even more jarring than this story is that it’s not even deemed newsworthy by mainstream news orgs in the UK & US. It’s all becoming normalized: “Teen thugs attack and board JFS school buses while shouting ‘f**k Israel’ at children” thejc.com/news/uk/teen-thugs… via @JewishChron

“destroyed and erased from history” — this kind of rhetoric gets louder and louder…it gets more and more prevalent…it gets more and more normalized. WITH NO CONSEQUENCE. Could you imagine activists talking about any other country or people this way and it being greeted with a yawn?

👀👀👀 The exact right response from @marcorubio — Hamas is responsible for civilian casualties on both sides of the Israel-Gaza border.
A++ response from @marcorubio. With the exception of a few bad apples, our elected officials have really risen to the occasion. 🇺🇸 !!!
