UN marked the International Day of UN Peacekeepers at UN Headquarters on Friday, honoring the courage, service and sacrifice of military, police and civilian personnel serving in @UNPeacekeeping around the world.

Today I laid a wreath to commemorate the nearly 4,500 people who have lost their lives since @UNPeacekeeping began almost 80 years ago. And I was humbled to posthumously bestow the Dag Hammarskjöld Medal to 68 peacekeepers who have made the ultimate sacrifice. They represent the best of humanity – people prepared to risk everything to keep others safe.
