The @UN’s latest report on conflict‑related sexual violence is a stark reminder: from Sudan to South Sudan, DRC, Haiti, Myanmar and beyond, survivors are enduring brutality no one should ever face. In 2025 alone, 9,788 cases were verified - more than double the previous year - with victims ranging from 1 to 70 years old. These are not numbers. They are people whose lives have been shattered by rape, torture, abduction, and sexual slavery.
As services are cut and conflicts intensify, survivors are left with even fewer lifelines.
Their courage demands accountability. Their suffering demands action. Their voices must not be forgotten. #EndRapeInWar

I'm deeply concerned by the escalation of fighting in & around El Obeid, a major population centre in Sudan, including drone attacks impacting civilians & civilian infrastructure.
I call for restraint from all sides and urge them to take all necessary measures to respect and protect civilians & humanitarians.
Far too many times in this conflict, clear warnings have failed to trigger concerted action by the international community. I urge all those with influence to exert it to prevent further bloodshed.
We must not allow the horrors of El Fasher to be repeated in El Obeid.
