Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo has made history as the first person to complete a half marathon in under 57 minutes.
The 24-year-old broke the world record at the Barcelona Half Marathon, finishing in 56:42—an astonishing 49 seconds faster than Yomif Kejelcha’s previous record of 57:30, marking the largest single improvement in men’s half marathon history.
An Olympic bronze medalist and two-time Commonwealth Games champion, Kiplimo broke two world records in one run. In the second half of his run, he broke the 10 km record, and in the entire run, he broke the half marathon record.
Kiplimo’s win is a victory for every young person daring to dream.

Animation, a largely overlooked genre of storytelling in Africa, borrows most of its content from multinational companies. Little African stories are told while the few deliver an unreliable portrayal of Africa.
