Today we’ve made the difficult decision to wind down StableLab. StableLab (originally StableNode) launched in 2021 because we wanted to define the newly emerging DAO space. Back then, governance was still in its infancy. Protocols launched tokens, formed DAOs, and hoped the community would figure out how to govern themselves. The system was informal and chaotic. Governance work was not seen as work. We thought this was broken and so we built a team. We hired delegates and governance experts to help push forward responsible DAO design. People who understood how DAOs actually work. We were one of the first professional governance service firms in the space. Some things we achieved and are proud of: ‐ Worked with the biggest and most respected ecosystems, including: Aave, Uniswap, Compound, Sky (MakerDAO), Euler, Optimism, Arbitrum, 1inch. ‐ 4,000+ governance votes cast ‐ Over $1B in governance decisions influenced ‐ Helped establish that delegate work should be paid. This used to be controversial. ‐ Transformed ourself from a services firm to a product-first startup Over these five years we’ve seen the DAO space mature and evolve. We built governance frameworks that protocols still use today and contributed to higher standards around proposal quality, voting transparency, and delegate accountability. We showed up to hundreds of community calls, wrote thousands of insightful forum posts and comments. To our partners and clients, we are incredibly grateful for the collaboration and time we shared together pushing the space forward. The relationships and connections meant more than anything. To the StableLab team, past and present, we want to thank you for being part of our story and for having joined us on our mission. So many talented individuals have left their mark on our company’s history, something we deeply appreciate. We have begun the process of helping each and every one of our team members find their next home. We still believe in governance and DAOs. There's so much room left to explore as institutional adoption accelerates, privacy protocols mature, and new coordination mechanisms emerge. We've submitted a proposal at @arbitrum DAO to integrate USDS and sUSDS tokens with the official Arbitrum Bridge UI by registering the Sky Custom Gateway contracts in the Router. This integration seeks to improve the user experience for those bridging these tokens between Ethereum and Arbitrum. @SkyEcosystem has launched support for USDS and sUSDS tokens on Arbitrum, while @sparkdotfi has introduced their Liquidity Layer and Spark Savings on the network. This will offer slippage-free liquidity for USDC, USDS, and sUSDS through a Peg Stability Module. Currently, users cannot bridge USDS and sUSDS via the official Arbitrum Bridge UI because these tokens are routed through default gateways instead of Sky Custom Gateways. Our proposal addresses this issue. We request that Arbitrum DAO update the Router configuration to utilize Sky Custom Gateways for USDS and sUSDS tokens. Is decentralization for sale? This week, @lobbyfinance shook up @Arbitrum, becoming its largest delegate by auctioning governance power to the highest bidder. Some call it market efficiency. Others see it as a direct attack on DAO governance. @VitalikButerin has long argued that vote-buying is inevitable in open governance systems. But if it’s inevitable, should DAOs fight it—or integrate and monetize it themselves? At StableLab, we see LobbyFi as more than just a one-off controversy. It’s a wake-up call for all. The reality is that DAO governance has always struggled with incentives. Low voter participation, weak engagement, and misaligned economic interests make governance an afterthought for most token holders. LobbyFi didn’t create this problem—it just made it explicit. The real question isn’t whether vote markets will exist, but whether they can be sustainable. The biggest risk? Governance capture. If voting power becomes a tradable asset, deep-pocketed players can hijack decision-making. Treasury allocations, protocol upgrades, incentive programs—everything is up for grabs. What stops a well-funded entity from accumulating votes and draining a DAO’s resources? This isn’t theoretical. It’s happened before. But here’s the flip side: If vote-buying is inevitable, why let third parties extract value instead of DAOs themselves? If Arbitrum doesn’t take control of this dynamic, someone else will. A structured, DAO-managed vote market could be a more pragmatic approach than outright prohibition. Monetization, transparency, and clear governance frameworks could shift power back to DAOs rather than external rent-seekers. More importantly, this moment highlights a critical need for stronger governance defenses. Private voting. Smarter delegation structures. Better incentives. Formal mechanisms to counter governance attacks. If vote markets are here to stay, DAOs must evolve—or risk becoming easy targets. These governance controversies aren’t just debates—they’re stress tests for decentralization itself. At StableLab, we don’t just observe them, we help DAOs navigate them.
