⚠ UPDATE: Derailed train at
#Robertsbridge
After yesterday's low-speed derailment of a freight train on the Hastings Line near Mountfield Tunnel, our teams have been working round the clock to re-rail the stranded train (📸pictured on the right) and get passenger services running back on time.
So why couldn't we fix it last night? Initially, we hoped to re-rail the locomotive overnight and restore full service by this morning. But due to the wagon buffers being under compression (meaning they were pressed tightly together), and the need to move the wagons back by at least 1 metre to create enough space for the teams to work to lift the train back onto the rail, it simply wasn't possible without risking bigger delays today. Instead, engineers were able to carry out all the significant preparation work last night. We're now planning to proceed with re-railing the locomotive tonight so we can reduce the disruption to passengers.
We expect the re-railing to take between 5 and 8 hours, and there may be some extra repairs to do to the track to make sure everything is ready for Wednesday morning.
@Se_Railway services are still running today but to keep everyone safe, we've got passenger trains running at a slower speed of 40mph past the freight train, which is delaying trains by around 5-10 minutes.
We’re really sorry for the inconvenience this is causing and thank you for your patience and understanding. Our teams are working as quickly and safely as possible to get everything back to normal. In the meantime, please checking with
@Se_Railway for the latest updates and advice. 🙏
