Philly can't be a city of no. We cannot be a world class city, fund our schools, and rebuild our communities by obstructing change and fighting investment. We can't yearn to always be America's poorest big city as a sort of cultural statement.
We need to innovate and grow.
Yup it's true. I went to law school and I defo learned that changing your screen name on Twitter to pretend like you're the richest person in the world and owner of the website that you're tweeting on is a literal federal crime. @BadLegalTakes
“I’m sorry that I made Mrs. Johnson, a gold star widow, feel terrible. Calling the families of the fallen is always a somber duty, and I truly regret that my words made a bad situation worse. I pledge to do better and offer my sincerest apologies.”
See, it’s not that hard.
I used to really admire @LindseyGrahamSC. He was willing to put his values over his party. He used to defend the GOP from Trump and his know-nothing faction.
That Lindsey Graham is gone and sold his soul for the limelight.
I just contributed to @harrisonjaime for US Senate.
Your "Christian beliefs" promote sex segregation in the workplace.
If you were elected Governor and denied women the chance to serve in senior positions in your cabinet or staff because you wouldn't want to be alone with a woman, you'd be violating the Constitution.
Septa bus can’t make a full turn. Naturally, a septa bus comes right up behind it to help, most likely. Surrounding cars honk their horns loudly and repeatedly, probably to express their approval at this camaraderie.
Every time people are like “read the Talmud, you’ll be shocked to see the real religious beliefs of the Jews!!” it’s clear they’ve never read any of it themselves, because it’s mostly this.
Jewish friend asked me a very funny legal question: “Can you break your Ramadan fast during the eclipse since technically it gets dark?” I had to hand it to him, I didn’t think of that 😂😎🌞🌆
As an LGBTQ leader in Philly, I'll just say it clearly:
The idea that you can't build a basketball arena in a Center City Philadelphia because arena-goers might threaten the safety of LGBTQ people in the Gayborhood, is classist & racist.
Community gardens cannot combat rising food insecurity. A grocery store could.
You might get a nice salad out of several months of community gardening, but you cannot feed a neighborhood let alone a household with one.
So many better uses for land in urban environments.
How can a state judge order a regional authority to perform services it hasn’t been funded to perform?
Like I don’t want septa not to be funded, but there’s not really any principles here.
From no taxes on tips to statutory limits on credit card fees to tariffs galore, his economy and tax plan has quickly turned out to be the “pizza parties on Friday” student council campaign turned grown up.
It's difficult to put into words how quickly my respect for someone plummets when they claim to be voting for Trump because he'd be better for the economy
Not for nothing but it’s a little weird that Cherelle Parker ran for mayor as the “I know how to get things done with the state and work with the general assembly” and somewhat seems to have been missing from the whole SEPTA conversation, and so Shapiro is getting all the flak?
(1) The proposed arena isn't in Chinatown, (2) the proposed arena is being built on top of an AMC theater/shopping mall, (3) the proposed arena isn't in Chinatown, (4) the proposed arena would drive wealth & jobs to Philly, and (5) the proposed arena isn't in Chinatown.
A millennial Republican state senator from northeast Philly saving SEPTA service reliability when the city’s Democratic caucus and Harrisburg-interpreter mayor couldn’t would be…*chefs kiss*
Here is new PA Sen Joe Picozzi talking about SEPTA.
TIME TO GET SEPTA FUNDED.
Fare increases & service cuts will now be YOUR problem if you cannot get the PA Sen Republicans to sign the bill to provide the funding needed for SEPTA which is crucial to the commonwealth & Philly.
After a nearly two year public input process a mixed-use project on the site of a former garage is seeking approval from the ZBA for several variances. Despite the evolution of the project to address concerns, the local RCO still opposes the new development.
My story in reply:
I live right here. This is a great addition to Center City. We need more dense, less car-oriented development in Center City. This property is literally one block from a BSL station.
Neighborhood opposition was from neighbors who wanted their views in perpetuity for free.
I see @JWGOP still doesn't have a bajillion followers and we need to correct that. He reps the moral conscience of the GOP, or needs to. nitter.app/jwgop/status/814959842…
Philadelphians deserve to live in a nice city too, and the lead paint caucus and "philly is awesome cause it sucks ass, anyway i live in delco now" people aren't going to make Philadelphia a better place.
"Downtown Philadelphia is not the best site for a massive and mostly empty Sixers arena," writes Jason Lempieri. "Build [it] uptown instead." inquirer.com/opinion/comment…
I mean it’s eminent domain but for guns.
The gov’t is taking them and you have no say in the matter. It’ll compensate you for the guns, but it’s taking them whether you like it or not. I agree with that policy: I think it’s good governance.
But it’s a confiscation. Own it.
Yes, the people who voted for the pussy-grabber and call liberals "sensitive snowflakes" who need "safe spaces" will probably vote GOP again because they were offended by jokes.
If the game changes in the Rust Belt, it's because people are owning their disingenuity.
Very disappointing that Macy's, in the heart of Philadelphia's Chinatown/Fishtown community (13th & Market), will close after the closure has been widely predicted for years.
Maybe it can be converted into a community pool, a teen rec center, or a dog park.
Macy’s parent company is expected to close up to 65 stores across the country this year.
City officials have openly expressed fears that the retailer’s location at 13th and Market Streets could be on the chopping block. inquirer.com/opinion/editori…
I woke up at 445am to serve as a poll worker today.
I’m a bit sleepy now, so I think I’m gonna call it a night.
I did my part today, and I’m not going to poast the Dems’ way to victory tonight.
I’ll go to bed with h/cope in my head. And maybe big cities will report overnight.
Listen I "get" the Chinatown participation and opposition, I appreciate it and think it needs to be engaged with.
Washington West's inclusion in the arena discussion is, imo, insulting to Chinatown's legitimate concerns.
according to press release, the Sixers arena will destroy the Gayborhood in addition to Chinatown. by 2031, there won't be anything left in Center City except the arena:
Let’s go Birds!
Our @Eagles are NFC Champions! What a performance by this team.
Our deepest congratulations to the entire Eagles organization, from Jeffrey Lurie, Howie Roseman, Don Smolenski, Nick Sirianni and everyone who works for our team.
One more game, we’re going to the Big Easy to cheer on our Birds.
Enjoy the big win, and please stay safe tonight Philly.
Fly Eagles Fly 🦅
Europe does not owe us any money. There is no bill due. NATO is a defense cooperative that has benefited the USA as much as it has any other country, and the NATO alliance rose to our defense after 9/11 when WE invoked article 5 for the first (and only) time in nato history.

One of the better ways to make sure we can raise capital to install HVAC through every school in Philly is to increase the tax base here.
Being a city of “no” isn’t going to do it.
I hope Mayor Parker and her team also read the room BEYOND the room - I live and work in Center City Philadelphia. I left my desk around 530 to get to the Convention Center by 545, didn't get inside and sit down until 620, and just got home after the event ended until 930pm.
Publicly owned property within a stone's throw from major transit hubs in the fifth largest city in America has better uses than surface parking for suburban residents.
¯\(ツ)/¯
I agree with Mayor Parker: everyone deserves a second chance.
Those convicted of betraying the public trust, misappropriating funds, and thieving from nonprofits, don't require city jobs.
I've been emailing back and worth with my Professional Responsibility professor all year and it seems like every week in the Trump administration is a great example of one of the ethical rules at play.
This is a middle finger to Philadelphia's centrally-located Fairmount neighborhood. Have they even studied the pollution effects of that many new gentrifying residents on that historic area?
With much love to Councilmember Landau, this is disappointingly wrong.
The 76ers aren’t showing they value the local community at 60m (still an eye popping number). They’re valuing our communities over $1.3 BILLION.
This project is a major win for all of Philadelphia.
And to the power of bigotry where a U.S. politician can call racial minority groups epithets, refer to some children as the 'work of Satan,' and attempt to criminalize an entire sexual orientation.
So yeah. Congrats.
It was actually inga and her allies saying that no one would take the subway to the center city arena but whatever I guess alternative facts can be progressive and architectural too ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Wasn't it just a few months ago that the Sixers and the arena bros were telling us that no one takes the subway to the Philly Sports Complex? 🤔inquirer.com/news/philadelph…
Listen man this arena is right in the middle of West Philly, Chinatown, Wash West, the Gayborhood, Fishtown, Queen Village, Mount Airy, Port Richmond, Bellwether, and even Abington. Something has to be done about this gentrification and colonialism!!!!
I disagree there, I think most of the centrist people in the party are on the technocratic side of things and think the retaliatory tariffs stuff are generally bad.
It’s such a shitty attitude with respect to SEPTA. why should state republicans care about septa if our local city council derides it as low class so much?
Pretty sure the only "win" Chinatown got out of this saga was a restrictive development and use zoning overlay that essentially requires a variance for...any use or proposed building in Chinatown.
This week celebrating the Chinatown community and all of the powerful organizing that has made it crystal clear that our city must be shaped by its people and not by billionaires.
Jake is also out here asking the pertinent questions. Frankly Comcast owes us a major project here, not just a few hundred housing units.

The cross tabs show that 25% of respondents were GOP, 32% were democrats, and 44% were independents. So, in other words, a fair selection of actual Americans. cdn.cnn.com/cnn/2020/images/…
Oh and as a reminder, all of the city surveys said that Chinatown was going to experience gentrification and all sorts of other negative impacts, with or without the arena.
Now they get to do that without a $60m CBA. Will the restrictive overlays continue moving forward?
