The World’s Greatest City
August 2024. Did I lie? DID I LIE?!?
I had a very productive meeting today with democratic socialist State Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani in Greenwich Village this afternoon. I can’t say much, but politics in the world’s most influential city are about to get a lot more exciting. Keep an eye on this Muslim socialist.

I’m in this video. I was chatting with friends and saw that she was drawing close to us and recording, so I asked her to leave us alone. Then she tried to bait me with “I can do whatever I want, I’m Jewish!” so I politely moved us away from her. Her name is Stephanie Benshimol.

I now think it’s good that he gets confronted this way because it illuminates to everyday voters how nutty it is that fealty to a foreign country is treated as a prerequisite to holding municipal office, and it will turn them off against such loyalty tests.

This is a local City Councilwoman. Her job is to respond to local constituent needs. I am a member of a Community Board within her district. She does not even show up to the meetings but she’s got time to get a dress made with the flag of a foreign country.
Tonight, on the third night of Chanuka, I am at the @NYYRC Gala proudly wearing a dress emblazoned in the flag of Israel 🇮🇱. So many Jewish New Yorkers & Jewish college students all over our country are afraid to display their Jewish identity, wear a Kipa, a Star of David, or express support for the great state of Israel. We cannot be afraid! We cannot remain silent! Be Jewish, Be Loud, Be Proud! This is where we live and we will not be intimidated! PS: This dress was created by an incredible Project Runway winner & celebrity designer Irina Shabayeva who pulled it together in less than 24 hours. Irina, I am beyond grateful for your talent and tenacity. God bless America & God bless our only true ally in the Middle East- Israel! 🇮🇱🇺🇸 עם ישראל חי

Bin Laden wasn’t a tragic antihero who grew up under the boot of occupation. He was the son of billionaire developers from a powerful clan and grew up globetrotting only to found a murderous organization that destroyed Muslim lives from Morocco to Indonesia. That’s the “context.”

She’s right. A community park in Chinatown had to stop growing tulips because white dog owners kept polluting it with their dog poop. As working class families bleed out and wealthy, mostly white, childless people move in, this will be more of a problem.

Looks like @Betar_USA deleted the video where their lunatic associate Stephanie Benshimol of Midwood exposed herself as a supremacist and aggressor in an attempt to frame herself as a victim. Please post screenshots for posterity below. They finally messed with the wrong guy.
I’m in this video. I was chatting with friends and saw that she was drawing close to us and recording, so I asked her to leave us alone. Then she tried to bait me with “I can do whatever I want, I’m Jewish!” so I politely moved us away from her. Her name is Stephanie Benshimol.

Anybody who criticized this back when it happened would have gotten skewered but today this scene looks like a South Park episode. I wonder how we’ll collectively perceive this type of “activism” 10 years from now. It has not aged well thus far.

I’m sorry but the Party becoming whiter is the Democratic Party and the Party becoming more multiracial is the Republican Party. This doesn’t align with the theories that academics, nonprofit activists, and race scholars trotted out in the 2010s and we need to grapple with that.
We must not delude ourselves in this moment. Multiracial democracy in the United States is less than 60 years old. It has always been contested, often violently so. It has always been fragile. Since this nation's inception large swaths of white Americans -- including white women -- have claimed a belief in democracy while actually enforcing a white ethnocracy. In the face of shifting demographics where white Americans will lose their numeric majority, we see a growing embrace of autocracy to keep the "legitimate" rulers of this country in power. History teaches us that we are in a perilous moment.

There are people who will look at you dead in the face after seeing this horror and tell you that boycotting a hummus brand is a step too far.

What’s funny is that after this, she came back and kept haranguing us about how “This is America” while she was draped in the flag of a foreign country.

Lebanon—a society with incredible religious diversity despite its small population—knows well the trauma of violent sectarianism & religious supremacy, so it affirms pluralism. Meanwhile some Muslims in London, one of the world’s most pluralistic & cosmopolitan cities, reject it.

Yes it’s called the Friday prayer. I have led it countless times on this campus. There are these things enshrined in our Constitution called freedom of assembly and religion. I know you are tempted to attack them as they do in Occupied East Jerusalem, but this is New York City.

“Mahmoud is a New Yorker, just like you and me…” Got me teary-eyed. This is how you win the hearts of people.
Three months ago today, plain-clothes ICE agents abducted Mahmoud Khalil in his apartment building lobby after they'd followed him home. Free Mahmoud.

False. Halal carts are a shining example of the timeless alchemy made possible by NYC: the fast-paced metropolis meets the culinary ingenuity of new immigrants creatively fulfilling a religious need. For New Yorkers, “halal” means their favorite street food, and that’s beautiful.
Sorry to be a hater, but halal carts suck. They're noisy, smelly, disgusting, and dirty. They take up valuable sidewalk space, and all of that could be forgiven if the food was good, but worst of all, they serve Untermensch slop. This shit is not fit for human consumption. Now the beautiful word 'halal' is synonymous with this disgusting mess of a bastardized cuisine in the tri-state area.

Like, if you want “context,” there are plenty of anti-imperialist and anti-colonial writers, thinkers, and activists that the Arab and Muslim-majority worlds produce(d) who didn’t go on to found a death cult that still wreaks havoc on the Muslim ummah today. They exist!

Some of the 19 lawyers representing Mahmoud Khalil also represented me over a decade ago when we Muslim New Yorkers successfully sued the NYPD for illegally surveilling us in our sacred spaces, our cafes, our schools. I can say that he’s in good hands and our enemies can seethe.
