JUST IN: Gov. Gavin Newsom signed AB 645 which will allow Los Angeles, San Jose, Oakland, Glendale, Long Beach and the City and County of San Francisco to pilot automated speed enforcement cameras.
Gov. Gavin Newsom signed AB 361 today. The bill is a pilot program that will allow transit agencies or local parking enforcement authorities to add forward-facing cameras to parking enforcement vehicles for the purpose of taking photos of parking violations in the bike lane.
San Francisco supervisors voted 10-1 in support of state Sen. @Scott_Wiener's bill, SB 532. Chan voted in dissent. Bill would increase bridge tolls on seven state-owned bridges to $1.50 for five years that would go towards funding public transit operations.

Just In: Bay Area Health officers from Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Sonoma and the City of Berkeley are recommending masking indoors for everyone, including those who are fully vaccinated.
Signs have gone up at Parnassus Avenue and Stanyan Street after a fatal crash occurred at the intersection this morning. A pedestrian died at the scene after being hit by a dump truck.
The SFMTA is requesting $5 million in Prop L funds for the development and preliminary engineering of a 5-minute Muni corridor network for the following routes:
- 1 California
- 22 Fillmore
- 28-19th Ave
- T-Third (street level)
Just In: The SFMTA announced that L- Taraval rail service will return Saturday, Sept. 28. Trains will run every 10 minutes on weekdays and 12 minutes on weekends from the zoo to Embarcadero station. On the surface, board the new boarding islands.
S.F. transit advocates are working to place a ballot measure for the November 2024 election. Today, they announced the "ComMUNIty Transit Act." It would create a new gross receipts tax on TNCs and autonomous vehicle companies operating in the city.

.@RecParkSF announced a three-month pilot program to allow food trucks on the Upper Great Highway during the days the roadway is closed to traffic. The first two food trucks to participate include:

San Francisco Mayor London Breed is at Pier 39 announcing The City is in the state's red tier. 25 percent indoor dining allowed. Mentions the Ferris wheel in Golden Gate Park. Says ride it now before the fun police shuts it down.
These posts and cones were installed at King and Fourth streets by @SafeStreetRebel. They said three weeks is too long to install improvements.
#SFMTA spokesperson Stephen Chun said the engineering team is aware of the posts and will address them when their assmment is complete.
Just In: San Francisco Mayor @LondonBreed announced a package of Vision Zero changes, including piloting left turn calming measures, looking into restricting right turns on red, more pedestrian scrambles, extending walk time at signals.
Have you seen the new dynamic map yet at your #SFMuni transit shelter? The #SFMTA is adding this feature on the new LCD screens so that riders will be able to see the location of the bus providing more confidence to riders that a bus is indeed arriving at said time.
A bit a of drama at the #sfbos Rules Committee today. Supervisors Aaron Peskin, Shamann Walton and Ahsha Safai have rejected all of Mayor @LondonBreed's nominees appearing today at the committee, including Sara Barz, nominated for SFMTA board.

I'm at the SF County Transportation Authority board meeting for a little bit. Supervisors just voted 7-1 in support of Sen. @Scott_Wiener's SB 532. The bill would increase the bridge toll by $1.50 for 5 years on 7 bridges.
Revenue generated would help fund public transit.
S.F. Department of Election says this morning that they will need to process/review approx. 100K ballots. Approximately 95K are VBM ballots and 4K are provisional/conditional. Department expects to receive approx. 13.5K VBM ballots today from the post office.
U.S. Secretary of Transportation @SecretaryPete was back in S.F. (was here in September for Central Subway biz) with @SpeakerPelosi and @LondonBreed to celebrate a $400 million federal grant that will go towards the project to seismically retrofit the Golden Gate Bridge.
Just In: San Francisco Mayor @LondonBreed nominated @MikeChenSF to the SFMTA Board of Directors, replacing Lydia So, who joined the Planning Commission. Chen currently serves on the SFMTA's Citizens' Advisory Committee and served as chair (July 2021 through July 2023).
Breaking: #SFMTA and Supervisors @AaronPeskin and @DeanPreston have worked out a compromise to not increase #SFMuni fares during the next two fiscal years.
Supervisors will drop charter amendment that would have taken away SFMTA board power on setting Muni fares.
S.F. supervisors moved forward a resolution to the full board to declare a state of emergency on pedestrian and bicyclist deaths. Among the asks is for the #SFMTA to double its red light cameras in The City. @MattHaneySF and @NormanYeeSF are the main sponsors. #VisionZero
TODAY: S.F. transit advocates Friday morning went to the Department of Elections to submit signatures for a potential ballot measure this November that would add a new tax to @lyft , @Uber and @Waymo to fund Muni. The group submitted 17,879 signatures. Check out the boxes.

San Francisco Mayor @LondonBreed has nominated @skbarz to the SFMTA Board of Directors. Barz works at Apple as its transit product manager, wallet, payments and services. Barz is also part of number of orgs, including the Westside Family Dem Club and Slow Hearst.
Supervisor Rafael Mandelman has a letter of inquiry to the San Francisco Police Department asking them to present a plan and timeline on how they will restore traffic enforcement to 2014.

As the SFMTA holds its first pop-up in front of Starbucks, flyers have since gone up in the commercial corridor against the city's proposal to make changes to West Portal Avenue and Ulloa Street. Some storefronts have posted the flyers as well.
Transit advocates at San Francisco City Hall are calling for Gov. Newsom and the state legislature to fund public transit agencies as they face a "fiscal cliff."
And yes, both the SFMTA board (unanimously) + Rec and Park Commission (5-2) voted in favor of sending the staff recommendation to close JFK Drive to #sfbos.
Supervisor Dean Preston will introduce a resolution at today's #sfbos meeting that calls for the Vision Zero Task Force to reconvene again and for city departments to coordinate on priorities related to Vision Zero.

I bumped into SFMTA board Director Sharon Lai who is letting passengers know the subway has reopened.
The Muni Death Spiral story was one of the main reasons why I became a transportation reporter in The City. As a SF native and someone who relies heavily on Muni, I didn't realize just how bad it really was. As a regular rider, you just don't really know.
I just had a nice encounter with a 6 #SFMuni operator. He asked me if I was Jerold Chinn from SF Streetblog. They link to my stories. He recognized me from a photo I guess from my byline. I said "yes" but I don't write for them. He said reads my stories all the time. 😍
Preston followed up with a question asking the mayor what her message is to employees who get off the night shift, who may not have the #SFMuni service to get home.
Breed says she's seeing empty buses at night on the weekends and added she "pays close attention to that."

Supervisor Dean Preston honors Jason Lee, formerly with the SFMTA. Lee recently led the agency's efforts in upgrading and improving Muni customer service information, including the LCD displays at transit shelters that displays more accurate arrival information of buses/trains.

There is a $170,000 Prop L request to study and assess the possibility of a gondola from Forest Hill station to Laguna Honda Hospital. Supervisor Myrna Melgar requested the study. Staff will present the study to the board next year.
