3rd time in 5 months I’ve travelled to London by train. 3rd time I’ve had to do this. We don’t need HS2, we need proper investment in the current rail network. Thank you @AvantiWestCost
Unfortunately I can’t co-present @BBCSpringwatch this year. I had a stent inserted in April, which released a clot, that, this week, caused an embolysm! My demise has been greatly exaggerated; thanks to brilliant friends, wonderful family & the excellent @NHS. Go Megan & team SW!
A 35 second mindful moment from this morning’s Snettisham knot spectacular. Another reason why we must all fight for our wildlife #ActionforNature@RSPBEngland
Lots of criticism on twitter for councils cutting flower-rich verges, and rightly so. Hats off to @PowysCC for letting our local verges grow despite opposition from the ‘tidy brigade’. Meadowsweet, yarrow, birdsfoot trefoil, meadow brown & ringlet aplenty. More of this please
We are dismayed, disappointed, and deeply concerned. UK Gov has just approved the use of a banned pesticide so powerful; a single teaspoon could kill 1.25 billion bees. This is a huge mistake. If we want to #DefendNature we must #SayNoToNeonics. 👉

White stork on a Llanidloes chimney in mid-Wales this morning. Imagine having these beauties nesting on rooftops throught the UK once more! (Photo thanks to Tim Benbow)
Nothing created by man can compare to the beauty of song thrush eggs. No disturbance as the adults are spending short periods of time away from the nest in search of snails (too dry for earthworms)
First @tesco, now @DwrCymru. Welsh Water/ Dwr Cymru has erected netting on its water tower at Llandegfedd Reservoir to prevent house martins from nesting! Pull these down now! @LlandegfeddLake@ChrisGPackham
Rotherham has this year sown 8 miles of wildflowers on its verges to help pollinators! They chose a mix of native and non-native plants to extend the flowering period & saved 25K in mowing costs! #bees#pollinatorspictorialmeadows.co.uk/case_…

What I admire most about our Secretary of State for the Environment is her obvious passion and enthusiasm for the role, along with a firm command of the brief, all underpinned by a deep commitment to professionalism & transparency.
Dear god.🤦🏻♂️

Imagine cruel people in their nice cosy homes take all the time and effort to put up spikes in Trees so that the little birds looking for shelter from the cold wind rain and heat in Trees as nature intended are met with cruel spikes to hurt them and leave them with no shelter
I’ve lambasted @cardiffcouncil several times for environmental vandalism but this time, I’m going to praise them. This an unmown area full of dandelions, goldfinches, butterflies & bees. Diolch @cyngorcaerdydd
Very angry & disappointed to hear the so-called horticulturalist on @thismorning calling dandelions ‘weeds’ and recommending ways to get rid of them. These people should NOT be used on these programmes

Can't believe what I'm hearing. Swift bricks aren't even controversial. They're a cheap, easy way to restore our dwindling bird population. Yet neither Tory Minister, nor Lab opposition, will commit to make them mandatory. What planet are they on?? @Natures_Voice@WriterHannahBT
Well done @SussexUni for destroying thousands of pollen and nectar-providing flowers for declining pollinators. What kind of seat of learning is Sussex University??!! Just not good enough
So sad to see this on my own university, after years of campaigning for more sensitive/reduced mowing: pics show Monday & Wednesday this week. @SussexUni@CTRH
This was Coedydd Aber, the stunning valley above Abergwyngregyn, this morning. What the hell is wrong with people? Either put your litter in the bin or take it home with you. To the pea-brained idiots who did this, p**s off home & don’t come back!
This is what’s happened in City Gardens, Cardiff since 2008. Up to 50 mature trees cut down! Ever heard of the climate crisis and biodiversity emergency @cardiffcouncil? Truly the worst council in Wales.
Watched these 5 jet-skiers go straight through a raft of auks off Puffin Island today. Later, 6 jet-skiers came down the Afon Conwy, scaring everything in their path. This has to stop! @bardseyben@NWPolice
Please don’t treat dandelions as weeds. They are a vitally important food source for so many of our early pollinators and often the only flower to be seen in lawns & well-grazed fields.
Today we are saying no to @JustStop_Oil and their political wing the Labour Party
We will power ahead with new oil and gas because it’s in the best interests of the British people, of our economy and of our national security
‘No Mow May’ and ‘Let it bloom June’ certainly worked wonders for my lawn. With the knapweed still to flower, that’s food for pollinators from early spring to autumn
Delighted to announce that I, along with the brilliant @DrAmirKhanGP, have become Vice Presidents of The Wildlife Trusts. It’s a real honour and I look forward to working with you all.
The fantastic @IoloWilliams2 has been an advocate for nature and The Wildlife Trusts for many years, and we are delighted to announce his appointment as our Vice President. It’s a privilege to have you on board❤️ (2/3)
Police confirm 2 x white-tailed eagles found dead on moorland in N Ireland were illegally poisoned.
Imagine that, the only moorland managed for driven grouse shooting in N Ireland. Who'd have guessed?

A question to @NatResWales. Why is #ImACeleb allowed to release thousands of non-native species at Gwrych Castle in north Wales? As well as the moral issue of using wild animals for entertainment, surely there are huge ecological issues here also
Of course! Sun is out, fires are burning. This being a “controlled burn”. How this is permitted when nest building season is underway I will never know.
#ecocide
Please remember to feed the birds during this extremely cold weather. Millions are dependant on the fat balls, seeds, peanuts and mealworms we put out for them. They bring so much joy to so many, now’s the time to pay them back. Diolch/Thanks
TWO male hen harriers 'disappear' from a grouse moor in #PeakDistrict National Park. Both females subsequently abandon the nests - 10 eggs gone.
Any thoughts, @peakdistrict @PeakDistrictNT @ZacGoldsmith ? We seem to have been here before. What's changed?
raptorpersecutionuk.org/2022…
There are some real ars**oles around at the moment. I collected this rubbish from the moor today. Take your bloody litter home!!!! As for the bag, what can I say?......
Just listened to Sarah-Jane Laing from Scottish Land & Estates compare grouse shooting to hill walking & golf on the BBC News at Six. When was the last time you saw a golfer shoot a hen harrier or a short-eared owl??!!
Happy New Year one and all. Blwyddyn Newydd Dda i chi i gyd. After 2 very difficult years, let’s work together to make 2022 a better one for us and our wildlife.
Unfortunately, I won’t be live on Autumnwatch this year. The dates had to be changed to accommodate live coverage of the FA Cup and the new dates clashed with a week’s guiding on Mull. I’ll miss the team but I’ll be back for Winterwatch. Good luck team!
@BBCSpringwatch
.@ScotParl has voted to recognise mountain hares as a protected species, and therefore will put an end to Scotland’s mass scale mountain hare killings! This is HUGE! Around 26,000 mountain hares are killed to benefit the driven grouse shooting industry each year. #HareCare
After a long campaign, I’m pleased to report that the shooting of Greenland White-fronted Geese in Wales will be banned from 2019. Thank you @wgmin_enviro
@ChrisGPackham@IoloWilliams2
can you join me In thanking the people protesting and successfully stopping the removal of swallow nests at Shrewsbury ambulance station THEY ARE HEROS 🐦👏
The swallows are now safe for the rest of the season, thanks to them!! (I take no credit)
We won! 🎉 And we couldn’t be more delighted🍾 Huge thanks to @BAFTA for our Live Event Award for Springwatch 2020 but even more thanks to you, our amazing audience, for watching and supporting us 💚
40 metres of hedgerow scrubbed out and burned at Green Lane near Abermule. WTH is going on here @PowysCC@NatResWales? Whose job is it to protect our hedgerows??!!
No mow May followed by can’t be bothered June and I’ve got a lovely patch of bird’s foot trefoil on the lawn. Great for butterflies, great for bees and great for my mental health.
Yet another out of control burn, this time on Mynydd Llangatwg in the Brecon Beacons. Birds, small mammals & reptiles all killed. This must stop! @NatResWales@LlywCymru@BreconBeaconsNP
New drone photos show how beavers in East Devon are defying the current South West drought. A network of dams they’ve built on Estate farmland is helping to maintain an area of wetland, despite the UK experiencing one of its driest summers on record. More: bit.ly/3whg3PQ
Osprey found shot in Angus Glens on opening day of grouse-shooting season.
You couldn't make it up.
It didn't survive its injuries.
Police appeal & commentary from me 👇👇

Lots of councils needlessly cutting flower-rich verges and green spaces at the moment. Please stop! You are killing tens of thousands of flowers, food for pollinators. This includes you, @PowysCC and @CyngorGwynedd
So pleased to find 4 healthy hen harrier chicks in a north Wales nest over the weekend. These birds are doing well over most of Wales thanks to sympathetic landowners. It could, and should, be like this all over the UK #bandrivengrouseshooting
My own private Thermopylae . On Friday morning I was the victim of an arson attack on my home . I would like to thank @Lyndhurst48 & @HantsPolice for their work . We have CCTV images of two hooded and masked men . If anyone has any information please call 101 quoting 44210403698
