4 years of asking England & Scotland sorts it in a month led by ACE @markruskell ♥️The RELIEF is unreal! Tell England to follow 🏴by emailing PlanningPolicyConsultation@communities.gov.uk now!WOOP!
In -6 temperatures, I found a woodmouse on the main road, barely able to move. Eyes shut+disorientated I popped it in my glove thinking it would at least die in peace. That was 2 days ago. It’s now in a temporary house with a slipper for a palace, scoffing nuts. #MouseInTheHouse
20,000 bricks make up the average 2 storey new house & all we ask is that 1 of them has a hole in it - to save a species and preserve an entire category of birds who live alongside us. Labour hated the idea to put a 3 line whip against it. Talk about betrayal.
One woman rehabbed these swifts, some needing care from trying to get into their blocked nesting sites after a perilous 9 months on the wing. Help these individual birds by signing #TheFeatherSpeech petition to ensure they have safe homes: petition.parliament.uk/petit…#EveryBirdCounts
Dear @BBCNews we would like to know why you didn’t cover a major news event in #London yesterday. Between 60-100 THOUSAND people marched at the #RestoreNatureNow. It looks like you are picking what you think is newsworthy. Isn’t that called bias? Regards, British wildlife.
To remind you of who #TheFeatherSpeech is campaigning for🪶these are the faces we are trying to help. These birds successfully fledged so right now, should be in African skies. #EveryBirdCounts Sign and share⬇️ petition.parliament.uk/petit…

Sometimes I’m asked ‘why do you care?’
‘Swifts are one of the oldest species on earth. They spend more time airborne than any other bird yet when they come home they come home to us. They’re on the brink. They just need a brick with a hole in it.’
Dear @BreweryRomford your decorations are blocking out red listed House sparrows from their homes. These birds face national extinction. Please consider them too by unwrapping one of the trees. I can provide you with a notice explaining to your customers why.

These are the people who blocked the swift brick amendment last night. 102 Labour Peers thanks to the rather extreme 3 line whip which just goes to show how much #Labour do NOT want to help nature let alone swifts. Normally a 3 line whip is used for fairly extreme amendments.
WE HAVE DONE IT! Together we have proved that #PassionIsASuperpower. I launched #TheFeatherSpeech naked + alone + now it is a campaign made up of 100,000 people who care: The Feather Speech belongs to YOU + our irreplaceable feathered neighbours who are on their way home now🪶♥️

Finally a glimmer of hope: Michael Gove has invited me for a 2nd meeting: He’s opened the door. Please continue to write, asking him to mandate #swift bricks 🪶🧱Thank you @ZacGoldsmith for remaining committed to saving swifts♥️We can do this but we must carry on asking.

I’ve woken up even more furious as I process what #Labour has done. A 3 line whip to ensure swift bricks are blocked after promising to do it? What a betrayal. People power will work. Email me at thefeatherspeech@gmail.com & you’ll get a template to amend & use
A fleet of Japanese Long liners are lying in wait off the coast of Ireland for tuna who have been safe in British waters. With 000’s of hooks on lines that go on for kilometres, they’ll decimate the population of tuna. 💔
This represents an industrial scale, opportunistic plundering of a glorious and precious species that is on the brink of a comeback from near oblivion. Oceanic animals know no barriers, something we as global citizens must surely try to understand if there’s to be any hope @mcsuk

Our PM doesn't want to save our icons of summer from extinction.
This swift left its exact nesting site here in August flying to Africa, spending 9 months on the wing. Journeying 8,000 miles, crossing the Sahara twice, it’s returned to find it BLOCKED. Swifts face national Exstinction + this bird may die trying. The homeowner doesn’t care.
BAD NEWS💔if the vote had taken place earlier we would have won-Tories (majority) whipped YES but by the time of the vote, support had gone home just like 2 years ago. It is an AGONISING reality. Tell steve.reed.mp@parliament.uk what you think. GUTTED. Labour: what a betrayal 😡
Check this out!!! These birds are not starlings. They are jackdaws!!! Just filmed, mouth open, delighted. They’re now in their cedar roost on the seafront, chattering away and I’m standing underneath them in awe. HOW COOL ARE THEY!!?! Grins!!
The UK is one of the most nature depleted countries on 🌍 yet a 🧱is too much of a stretch for Labour to save our swifts. This symbolic 🎥 is for those who care that the existence of swifts is on the line.I hate campaigning but I’ll never give up on the birds. If you care, share🙏
There’s something v wrong when someone with authority touts their opinion as fact.Lord Krebs, you say swift bricks don’t work & that swifts only nest higher than houses & only with open access.Err, have you been living under a rock? Our home is their home. @ZacGoldsmith

#MouseInTheHouse update: I’ve still got the woodmouse guest as it has gone into a deep sleep within the toe of the slipper palace after busily redecorating the interior: a nest of leaves and a personal store of peanuts and a prized grape. I’ve set up a camera trap for pics 🤞🐭

Losing followers big time which is so sad as this platform hasn’t been toxic to me. It’s been a platform that connects fellow nature lovers, helped me raise awareness with politicians and raised my voice for birds.
Swifts are as old as the Rocky Mountains, evolving 7 epochs ago. For 60 million years they've reigned the skies. Each year they fly for 6,500 hours nonstop yet when they come home they come home to us. That's why EVERYONE is asking YOU to save them @michaelgove🪶

Another nail in the ⚰️Labour have refused to mandate swift bricks while announcing the £13.2bn budget for insulation. I’ve explained how national scale insulation is destroying cavity nesting habitat without mitigating the loss & indirect mitigation with swift bricks would work.
I AM my campaign+the vulnerability of being nude in public is the embodiment of how I feel as a campaigner. With @ZacGoldsmith by my side,he felt like a forcefield. This is what 10000s of us want @michaelgove to be for swifts: to protect their existence. With a brick!
‼️The #Conservative government has just formally said NO to any action to secure urgent, vital nesting habitat. Please use your voice&vote to tell ALL MP candidates about the need to mandate swift bricks. Your voice is powerful right now. @ZacGoldsmith #WorldSwiftDay

Can't believe what I'm hearing. Swift bricks aren't even controversial. They're a cheap, easy way to restore our dwindling bird population. Yet neither Tory Minister, nor Lab opposition, will commit to make them mandatory. What planet are they on?? @Natures_Voice@WriterHannahBT
Labour has betrayed our birds & ignored us.They’re digging the 🪦 of swifts in the greatest environment betrayal in a generation. Don’t let them get away with it. They put a 3 line whip on a simple brick! What sort of greedy monkey builders are they listening to? Please share.
NEWS: Labour listened to the industry lobby. The builders are bragging that they blocked swift bricks! (Read why this is has made me enraged below in my comment) britbuild-magazine.co.uk/beh…

Apparently I’m being over dramatic. This is 3 years of my life- it isn’t my job. I’ve done it solo & unfunded & we came SO close yday. Maybe we are a nation of stiff upper lips but one thing is true: only if we care will we act.
Living a nightmare. We haven’t got to the tipping point yet 3 years into the swift brick campaign. I hope you’re furious. Go see your MP. Please. People power will work. Tell steve.reed.mp@parliament.uk how you feel too. The govt has betrayed swifts.
Extinction is happening. Who do we think we are. And this government won’t even mandate a brick with a hole in it despite it being fundemental to the life of a bird they’re inadvertently destroying the nesting habitat of.
Tragic. Preventable. Final.
The Slender-billed Curlew is officially extinct, declared today by the IUCN. On our watch.
We are technically brilliant and carelessly blind.
Sit with the silence. Then fight for what remains. #Extinction#BiodiversityCrisis#Curlews@DavidGray
One thousand people have followed me here in the last week. If you don’t know much about the swift brick campaign, I wrote a book about it called #NatureNeedsYou - The Fight To Save Our Swifts. It’s been a shocker of a ride so far but I will never give up. Why? I love birds.
I made a bird paddling pool. Hard to film without scaring them but the birds are loving it. With no rain, this is a bit of a lifeline. If you do it, remember to ensure no one can accidentally drown / they can get out. Hedgehogs will be so grateful too for water they can access.
The car in front of me just accidentally killed this fledgling blue tit. I couldn’t bear to leave it on the road. Please try to watch out for the little ones. They’re flitting out of verges happily until they collide with us.
Share this if you want the House of Lords to SAVE OUR SWIFTS. Today Parliamentary peers will vote for or against swift bricks. Labour Peers will be whipped to vote NO, Lib Dem’s YES, & Tories can choose. 🤷♀️ COME ON THE LORDS!!!!!!!
Well this platform is sinking. Are you staying? I am. Without this platform my petition to save a bird from national extinction would never have got the 100,000 signatures necessary. I would never have found political allies. We would never have built a voice for nature. Ironic.
I can’t stop thinking about how messed up this is. They don’t care that they’ve undermined their integrity & the raging public concern. They don’t care about the birds. Are they in some sort of bubble with their glorious leader that the public have totally lost trust in?
These are the people who blocked the swift brick amendment last night. 102 Labour Peers thanks to the rather extreme 3 line whip which just goes to show how much #Labour do NOT want to help nature let alone swifts. Normally a 3 line whip is used for fairly extreme amendments.
Swifts so desperately need our help. How any nature advocate could ever vote against fundemental nesting habitat for one of the most rapidly declining birds with one of the lowest populations especially when swift bricks are simple is the worst kind of low. #TheTimes today, p.13
EIGHTEEN MONTHS into my campaign. The proposal to add a swift brick requirement to Building Regulations is ready, approved & recommended by ALL experts. Without swift bricks there’s no guaranteed nesting habitat for swifts&there never will be. The govt CAN give them a future. ⏳

We travel abroad, we visit museums and galleries, we dream of faraway places. But there are hedge banks HERE, ready to be marvelled: whole exquisite worlds of mosses and bluebells, of leaves as beautiful as cut glass, of greens of real plants, not painted. On. Our. Doorsteps.
Hellllllloooo? Are you there? Please help birds by sharing this if you also want to ensure swifts & other urban birds have homes alongside us. People power works but only if we work together. SAVE OUR SWIFTS.
The Lib Dem’s are going to vote FOR swift bricks on Monday! ♥️The govt is not. 😭….IF the Tory parliamentary peers, x benchers & ace rebel Labour Peers do, then swift brick amendment 245 will pass in the Lords. Grand Designs Kevin McCloud agrees: swift bricks should be mandated!
Is anyone else worried there is nowhere near enough public / nature outcry with regards to the absolutely devastating Planning and Infrastructure Bill? Anyone who cares personally and professionally should we doing all they can to STOP PART 3 OF THE BILL.
No amount of online abuse (I've been told I deserve to be gang raped) will stop me from doing everything in my power to ask the govt to save swifts. @ZacGoldsmith & I remain hopeful that @michaelgove will act on HUGE support from scientists, public&anti-regulation Tories alike.
A colony of swallows whose home for 7 years has been a garage, annually flying 8k miles back there, will today watch as their active nests are destroyed for hygiene reasons. If this had to happen, couldn't we wait until the chicks had fledged? Biodiversity 'loss' = destruction⬇️
