Whitby Swing Bridge will be closed from 6pm tomorrow, Tuesday 30 June to 2am on Wednesday 1 July while we carry out urgent works try to solve issues with the bridge. Families are being given extra support with more childcare available for children in North Yorkshire. Through the Government’s childcare expansion programme, we have helped schools and childcare providers create more than 2,000 new wraparound childcare places, with breakfast and after-school clubs helping parents and carers in North Yorkshire balance work, training and family life. The draft “Caring for All” strategy sets out clear priorities that will shape the support carers of all ages receive. We know that on warmer days open water, such as rivers, lakes and the coast, can look like a tempting place to cool off, but it is full of hidden dangers. Incidents around water can happen in seconds. In an emergency, call 999 immediately and ask for the fire service if inland and the Coastguard if you are at the coast. Never enter the water to attempt a rescue. Tell the person to float on their back and look around and see if there’s any rescue equipment nearby that you can throw to the person. Work is progressing to replace the swimming pools ceiling at Active North Yorkshire Richmond. While the pools are closed, we’re also enhanced lighting, both poolside and in the customer café, and upgrading the heating system. The work is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
