VW board moved Diess aside, replacing him with Oliver Blume, a guy they could trust would move slow enough. The rest is well known. Well, TSLA sold an incremental +18.934K cars in 3Q24, yet their reported 3Q24 EBT increased +$897mn QoQ, with profit in the Energy and Services divisions up just a tad. Stated differently, this works out to incremental EBT on the extra +18.934K cars sold of ~$47K/car, when we KNOW $TSLA's EBT/car, last qtr, was $5.8/car. These numbers make absolutely NO SENSE at all. It seems $TSLA is engaging in a SIGNIFICANT effort to capitalize costs, thus boosting reported margin. And, why does CAPEX continue to run at levels seen when they were building plants when they currently aren't building any new plants? Again, these numbers make NO SENSE. Tesla's $897m QoQ earnings bump mostly came from reducing costs, not selling more cars, and Gordon claims that the decrease in operating expenses can be explained by the huge jump in CAPEX. Operating costs hit margins and earnings, while capital expenditure does not, so Gordon accuses Tesla for hiding costs as capex, and asks: "why does CAPEX continue to run at levels seen when they were building plants, when they currently aren't building any new plants?" Does he really not know why capex is so high, or is he faking it? Asking because the reason is there in plain sight... Some of it could be starting to build the Cybercab production line, and maybe even Optimus, but since Gordon thinks they are vaporware let's put these aside. The bulk of the capex can be found on nVidia's balance sheet. Gordon still thinks of Tesla as an auto company, but there's no denying that they did buy a huge number of GPUs from nVidia. 'Dem GPUs don't come cheap, and they're all marked as capex. Remove the cost of GPUs installed in this quarter, and capex nosedives back to normal. Besides letting emotions cloud his judgement, @gordonjohnson19 tends to block Tesla fans. Maybe this explains why he never saw these: 😂
