Academic in Religious Studies and Contemporary Islam. Ysgrifennydd Cyffredinol @MuslimWales. Chief Enabler.

A few years ago I published the text of a talk I gave on the idea "Anglophone Islam", which prompted some great discussions and debates. I'm pleased to say it's now a peer-reviewed article in Contemporary Islam - open access and link here link.springer.com/article/10…

This is the problem with an RE curriculum that teaches imams are just Muslim priests, and mosques are just Muslim churches. Not to mention it presumes Zara's role is akin to the Archbishop. We shouldn't be afraid to ask for better religious literacy from our journalists.

My two euros on this. Islam underwent a crisis, exacerbated by colonialism. It's now experiencing a period of vitality in scholarship, creativity, & imagination. What is experiencing a global crisis is the nation state, which is a religion and one I don't think it will survive.

The argument of feminism is that society is structured in such a way that men are able to participate fully but women are restricted to certain areas, usually reliant on a male-centred view of femininity. If you want try to prove feminism wrong, this isn't helping your case.

Quite pleased to hear this. Mainstream Muslims and Ahmadiyya groups have a lot to work out, but access to political participation and ceasing discrimination and abuse an integral first step.
Imran Khan appointed an Ahmadi (Pakistan's most severely oppressed minority) to his Economic Advisory Council & rightwing Pakistanis are going nuts. High-level members of his team have defended the appointment, arguing that personal faith does not affect one's merit. I am proud.
