Hey folks at @vercel we're considering adopting @nextjs for the nodejs.org website as a continuation (rewrite) of the initial proposal we made with Gatsby on nodejs.dev. We would love to have a quick chat with y'all to see options here 👀

We spent 3 years developing the new Node.js website. Some might ask why it took so long? The website design and content are relatively simple, but the true story unveils here 🧵

I genuinely love Bun and Deno -- they are great. I loved Deno 2.0 release and the super cinematic vibes of their teaser. But I hate Bun and Deno's claims that Node does things that Node does not or that it significantly simplifies what Node does.

I'm excited to announce that we're entirely using @turborepo on the Node.js Website codebase. This is a tremendous step, allowing us to fragment pieces into different packages and reuse them on different projects across the Node.js org. Thank you, @anthonysheww, for making this happen!

(1) We always felt that the current Node.js website needed more harmony. It was not easy to navigate, it was not friendly, and it was not end-user/consumer-first. We needed something that could easily allow you to get started for your platform.

This. Stop comparing Bun and Deno to Node as it was or is a competition. It is not. We (Node) are not in a position to compete, nor we want to compete.
Deno and Bun are vc-baked and can compete against each other. Thinking that Node.js can compete against companies with millions of funding is wishful thinking. Node.js is driven by volunteers: if somebody have a feature as a priority, they would contribute/do the work.

1. As of today, Node (pretty much) has all these bold features that Bun and Deno claim. Some even came before of Node than elsewhere, like SEA (Single Executable Application) So it annoys me when they claim we do "X" way better or "A, B, C" that Node does not.

6. So, it is distasteful how, IMO, these new runtimes over-marketise themselves, make bold claims, and pretty much sh*t on the free and volunteer work we do for Node. Whereas Bun and Deno are for-profit companies. (Not doubting the passion of the people behind Deno and Bun)

What is something you see alternate libraries such as esbuild, rspack, vite and others having that you’d wish seeing on @webpack (?) - Faster Production bundling time; - Recipes (out of the box, 0-extra config, predefined settings/plugins for popular environments, such as RSC, React, Angular, JSX, Jest, etc…) - Out of the box 0 configuration experience? Like an auto detection mechanism? - What else? Shoot us with some pain points and things you wish to see on webpack 🫶
