Ultimately, the UC Berkeley administration bears the responsibility of ensuring the safety of Jewish students on campus, a duty that was not fulfilled last night.

- UNRWA did not know what is under its headquarters in Gaza. - UNRWA is made aware of reports through the media regarding a tunnel under the UNRWA Headquarters in Gaza. - UNRWA staff left its headquarters in Gaza City on 12 October following the Israeli evacuation orders and as bombardment intensified in the area. - We have not used that compound since we left it nor are we aware of any activity that may have taken place there. - We understand, through media reporting, that the Israeli Army has deployed troops within the UNRWA Headquarters in Gaza City. - We are therefore unable to confirm or otherwise comment on these reports. - In times of “no active conflict” UNRWA inspects inside its premises every quarter, the last inspection for the UNRWA Gaza premises was completed in September 2023. - UNRWA is a Human development and humanitarian organisation that does not have the military and security expertise nor the capacity to undertake military inspections of what is or might be under its premises. - In the past, whenever suspicious cavity was found close to or under UNRWA premises, protest letters were promptly filed to parties to the conflict, including both the de facto authorities in Gaza (Hamas) and the Israeli authorities. WATCH: On Saturday, a Jewish man and his five-old-son were directed across the street to Jerusalem Coffee House in Oakland while looking for a restroom. When the man asked what that had to do with anything, the owner insisted he leave. Later, when asking if the establishment did not allow Jews, the man was told they “might not." We are deeply concerned that anti-Israel groups have now turned their attention to target the largest Jewish campus organization in the world, @HillelIntl, a safe haven and foundation for Jewish students for over 100 years. The calls initially began with SJP demanding @UCSC cut ties to Jewish charities and institutions including Hillel as part of ending their encampment. Now there are calls for universities nationwide to drop Hillel. Hillel serves as a hub for Jewish life on campus, offering a range of programming, events, and resources to engage Jewish students in their cultural, religious, and social identities. They provide opportunities for both Jewish and non-Jewish students to connect with each other, celebrate holidays, participate in community service, explore their heritage, and deepen their understanding of Judaism. Hillel is represented across 850 North American campuses and communities. It is the largest collective of Jewish students on Earth. Calling on universities to cut ties with the majority of their Jewish students is blatantly antisemitic. It denies them of resources, community, freedom of expression and undermines diversity and inclusion.

On the last night of Hanukkah, disgusting and hateful graffiti was discovered next to @ChabadOakland's Lake Merritt Menorah, comparing Israelis to Nazis.
