turning 23, and i’ve reflected a lot on my highs and lows as a person. 23 things i fundamentally believe in as a person: 1. always be authentic and genuine 2. learn to integrate your authenticity in the real world 3. love is unconditional; treat it as such 4. differentiate between personal, business, and transactional relationships 5. great work is always rewarded, whether you see it or not 6. consistency and discipline trumps intensity. all three together are unstoppable. 7. don’t make long term sacrifices to health. 8. people are your greatest asset. not by number of people or how cracked they are. people who are there for you at your lowest moments. 9. save your time and energy for other genuine, authentic people. 10. you’re going to be wrong and make mistakes. truly embrace them, learn from them, and recover. 11. lying to yourself is extremely dangerous. 12. there is usually never high reward without high risk. 13. don’t let fame, status or wealth corrupt who you are / your values. 14. gratitude is key to staying grounded. 15. have nonnegotiables you do everyday that ground you (ex. calling fam everyday) 16. money, status, and fame are meant to be side effects of your journey; not solely the destination. 17. there’s no conventional path to success. don’t blindly follow someone else’s footsteps. 18. don’t define success by what others do; define it according to your values 19. control your emotions and don’t let them affect your judgement / how you treat people. 20. don’t overgeneralize one bad experience; understand the nuances. 21. take unconventional paths. they may not work, but you minimize regret and maximize potential reward. 22. be optimistic. the world will try to strip it from you. 23. At the end of the day, do what you think is right. You have only one life. You might be wrong, but life is about constantly learning. The best you can do is show up every day and give it your all.

agi doesn’t mean you’re cooked as an engineer ever since o3, my TL has been spammed with “there’s no hope for new grads” or “swe is over” it’s funny because the focus of swe has never solely been about writing code. it’s about:
• designing systems
• communicating design choices
• delegation within teams
• execution (coding) o3/agi will solve coding. more responsibilities will be assigned earlier on (new grads expected to perform at mid level) the biggest challenge: proper delegation + coordination with AI agents delegation/coordination remain unsolved even among humans — no universal template exists for eng teams. the winning product in devtools will be one that guides humans in doing this effectively with agents. so rather than panic, focus on learning how to architect systems, communicate design choices, and coordinate with others.

the most valuable thing i learned in 2024: diversifying your daily wins my daily wins used to solely revolve around work. i did cool things, but felt empty & burnt out. this year my daily wins were more balanced: - work - spiritual - family - physical it resulted in so much clarity on/off work, forced me to live in the present, and daily grind without feeling drained. your daily wins don’t need to be big. they just need to be consistent and achievable.
