Dear Fellow Citizens of Arizona,
As your duly elected representative who was falsely expelled from office, it is my solemn duty to remind you of your rights and powers as the People of this great state. We live in a Republic, where the government is of the people, by the people, and for the people. This means that you have the ultimate power to hold your servants accountable and reform your government, by right, when in danger of maladministration or a failure to uphold the trust of the People.
I want to address the recent concerns regarding the election process in Arizona. Many People do not realize that our elections process has been changed. If they were fully aware, they would be seeking a remedy. The People have the right to change the system and guarantee the remedies our forefathers have given us.
As a duly elected politician, it is my responsibility, along with my colleagues, to use our powers to protect the body politic and preserve the rights of the People. One of these powers within the legislative body's granted authority is the ability to remove members. As a trustee of the People, it is my duty to remind you, the people, of your power. Through the state constitution, you have been granted the power to remove bad actors. You also have an inherent right to remove bad actors and take measures to protect yourselves when the government is not functioning as you see fit.
John Locke, in his work "Two Treatises of Government," said that when the government is dissolved, the people are at liberty to provide for themselves by electing a new legislature differing from the other by change of persons, or form, or both, as they shall find it beneficial for their safety and prosperity. For the society can never, by the fault of another, lose the original right it has to preserve itself, which can only be accomplished by a settled legislature and fair and impartial execution of the laws made by it.
The People of Arizona have a remedy in fixing their body politic, which allows them to deal with representatives who are inadequate when it comes to securing their elections, property, and livelihoods. It is our duty to ensure that the People are always armed with the appropriate knowledge to hold their servants accountable and to reform their governments, by right, when in danger of maladministration or a failure to uphold the public trust.
When election processes are changed without the consent of the People, the legislative body is altered. When people or groups other than those duly authorized by free and fair elections govern, their actions do not represent the will of the People.
It's common knowledge that the People of Arizona never authorized anyone to accept funds from Facebook to interfere with Arizona elections – as prohibited by Article 14 Section 18 of the Arizona Constitution. Neither did the People authorize Katie Hobbs or the Board of Supervisors to change the electoral process. As a result, the People are not bound to a government which administers elections insecurely, outside of the legal and logical protections meant to preserve the integrity of the body politic.
The People have a guaranteed right to remove persons and change constitutions to protect our great State. The fact that Representatives have not offered this remedy to the People is, in itself, a failure to uphold one's duties as a trustee of the People.
To tell the people they may provide for themselves by electing a new legislature (when by oppression, artifice, or being delivered over to a foreign power), once their old one is gone, is only to tell them they may expect relief when it is too late, and the harm is past remedy. This is, in effect, no more than to bid them first be slaves, and then to take care of their liberty. And then once their chains are on, tell them they may act like free men. This, if barely so, is rather mockery than relief. Men can never be secure from tyranny if there are no means to escape it till they are subjugated by it. Therefore, they have only a right to get out of it, and to prevent it.
The People of Arizona must exercise their right to remove those who act contrary to their trust. When the legislature's actions are against the public trust reposed in them, or when they endeavor to invade the property of the citizens and make themselves masters of the community or arbitrary decision makers in the lives, liberties, or fortunes of the People, the People must hold them accountable.
As your duly elected representative, I urge you to take action and use your inherent right to remove bad actors and take measures to protect yourselves when the government is not functioning as you see fit. The People should not be bound to suffer and then try to fix things when it is too late to recover.
We live in a time where the government must be held accountable for its actions, and it is only through the active participation of the People that we can ensure this accountability is maintained. I implore you to use your voice, your power, and your rights to hold your representatives accountable and to protect our great state.
The People of Arizona have a guaranteed right to remove persons and change constitutions to protect their own state. It is our duty as elected representatives to ensure that the People have the appropriate knowledge to hold their representatives accountable and reform their governments, when in danger of maladministration or a failure to uphold the public trust.
I stand with you, the People of Arizona, and I will do everything in my power to ensure that your voice is heard and your rights are protected. Together, we can work towards a government that serves the People and upholds the trust that has been placed in it.
With love and nothing to hide,
Liz Harris
