If you wear a pinstripe top…you have to wear pinstripe pants.
If you wear pinstripe pants, you can wear a solid top…but it cannot be white.
These are the baseball uniform rules set forth by the Baseball Gods. I do not make them.
If you are a teacher or administrator watching the forecast and thinking, “What can our students do tomorrow?”...let me answer that one for you.
Nothing. Let them go play without worrying about school. “Virtual days” didn’t exist when we were kids and we turned out ok.
If you are wondering what is wrong with baseball at the upper levels and why players show up in high school spoiled/ don’t play for the love of the game....take a peek at what my 7 year old got today for a 2nd place finish. We are developing entitlement. 🤦🏼♂️ #USSSA
Can’t even begin to say thank you enough to @__robertmoore_ for how he treated these boys tonight. Future first rounder and he stopped and talked to each one of them, signed their baseballs and even threw on a 🪓⚾️ hat to boot. Class act! @RazorbackBSB @CoachKBo_HTP
I think there is a slight difference between training towards a D1 goal after puberty and playing 85 games in 9U, and you know that.
The issue isn’t kids chasing a dream and working hard in high school. It’s parents and charlatans blurring that line into youth sports.
Youth baseball coaches...if the coach of the #1 team in the country will pull his guy at 101 pitches with a no-no intact during a conference game....what does that tell you about letting 9-13 year olds throw over 100?🤔
In the summer of 2002, I was a catcher for the Salinas Packers in the CCCBL. Our first base coach:
Tony Vitello
Tonight he’ll be a long way from a Saturday DH vs. the SLO Blues. Good luck, coach!
@Vol_Baseball@KBoBaseballGuru
In 2012 I jokingly tried to convince the headmaster from our sister school in Japan to send their best player over as an exchange student for a year. They said he was a really good pitcher AND hitter.
5 years later I found out that kid was Shohei Ohtani.
Y’all remember when the @ArkansasActiv justified a state of 3M people having 7 athletic classification because it would help with travel?
Well, I’m headed to get my 8th grader from the conference matchup between GCT and El Dorado….
Woke up to my 10 year old watching MLB highlights at 6:00. Walked in the living room and he said: “Dad, that Ke’Bryan Hayes kid may be a dude. He had a double and a homerun against the Cubs and both were in big spots.” Am I living with a JUCO coach?! @CoachKBo21 @jucoroute
I know my father had an intense respect for Coach Campbell. I still remember the Wynne football shirts that said, “27 TRAP: Here it comes, can you stop it?” The answer folks, was “no.” RIP to one of the greats!
The issue isn’t Little League. It’s parents with $ who can’t understand that their kid isn’t good enough for travel, but do it anyway as a status symbol. You will never fix that.
The solution to the problem is getting parents to think about youth sports differntly. Good luck.
Arkansas boys bounce back in Game 2 at the Cal Ripken 12U World Series! 6-1 win vs. West Fargo, ND. Luke Cancilla goes CG on the mound and Malachi Clifton led the way at the plate with a HR and a 2B. Move to 1-1 in pool play and face off against KY tomorrow at 11:30🪓🌲⚾️
A year ago, this kid didn’t get to pitch in a game. Tonight he threw a 4 inn. CG on 51 pitches in a championship game and K’d 5. Located his FB and CH well.
Don’t ever give up on yourself, and youth coaches….pitch everybody. You may have a diamond in the rough on the bench.
This is my open and public apology to both @CoachButchJones and @AStateFB . After the last 2 years and the first couple of games this year, I did NOT see a bowl game in the near future.
I was wrong. Outstanding turnaround!👏🏻👏🏻
Because he went 0-2 in pool play and that ring is for winning D bracket against 8 teams that are under .500. It’s not rewarding the kids and making them smile that’s the issue, it’s the watering down of a symbol that has carried significance for decades in athletics.
Look…no offense…but the fanbase not digesting this and then defending players from a 1-11 team only proves that the culture around the program was brutal
One of the worst parts of travel baseball is conditioning players for a decade that the competition is in their age bracket and only with rich kids that can afford it.
My 10 y/o told us last fall he didn’t want to play travel ball anymore. After a lot of discussion and prayer we decided to put him in the 10U @PYB_Paragould league.
He had a great year and I watched him rekindle his love for the game. Parents, nothing in this game is a “must.”
Kevin Kopps just won the Golden Spikes filling up the zone and topping at 93, but y’all are out here having 12 year olds on @DrivelineBB so they can reach “max velocity potential” smh 🤦🏼♂️🥴 @O3jfrye @CoachKBo_HTP @coachJMyers2 @marvinfreeman84@dbrozilla
My wife searching for something on Netflix: “No way I sit here for a whole 2.5 hour movie.”
*proceeds to watch four 45 min episodes of Virgin River back to back*
You and the guy who didn’t vote for Griffey should hang out sometime and talk about how much more baseball you know than 99.9% of the rest of the planet
The stuff nobody tweets…one run game, time out, two outs. Based loaded. My 9 year old grounds out to end the game. Thankful for these opportunities for him to feel pressure, hurt, and learn the game from failure. #ontothenextone @CoachKBo
@RipkenBaseball does it the right way. Tournaments have no fee, kids have to be local, pitch counts (not innings limit) in force. One of the few organizations out there not trying just make money off these kids.
Arkansas drops it’s 3rd one-run game in pool 7-6 to Salem, OR. Brooks Robinson had 2 HRs. D. Runyan and J. Heath added 2 hits apiece. Andrew Wegner threw two scoreless innings out of the pen. AR plays Janesville, WI tomorrow in the consolation bracket at 11:30.
Velo is “king” yet Jon Gray sitting here with a 6.69 ERA and -0.2 WAR (nerds favorite stat) while he sits 96....but Alec Mills just threw a no-no TOPPING OUT at 90🤔 @O3jfrye@notgaetti
Sure, the kids need to be more respectful….but it starts at the top with non-baseball charlatans that run the orgs.
Put money first, and you get results like this all day.
When I was a kid old people would be like, “Honey, I’m just ready to see Jesus.” I was like, “Dang, old people are morbid.”
Now I’m 100% with Aunt Ethel.
Season will be remembered as:
1. Early success/ late disappointment
2. Major improvement from 2022
3. Horrific o-line
4. Terrible in-game clock management
Honestly believe they were 2 OL and some clock management away from 7-5.
Anyone out there doubting whether “old school” coaching has a place and works in 2023…look at what @coachvpaschal is doing at Heber.
Congrats on a great season, coach!
So, by that logic, the park owner should be able to go back and show how tenant rents were double what they are now 5 years ago and were cut in half under the Trump administration, right?
Field cleanup day. My dad (HC) tells a sophomore, “Take this ladder down to the foul pole and paint it yellow.”
10 mins later he looks up and the kid has the ladder laid against the RF corner…painting the ladder yellow.
I was this way for a long time about the colorful cleats, and I eventually realized it just wasn’t worth the battle. Made zero difference.
…and we went 40-3 in baseball this year with some weird ass cleats on the field🤣🤷♂️
Front office before last nights Sox game: “Lets see how the pen looks before doing anything drastic.”
David Ross: *puts Jharel Cotton in the game*
7/20/2020 Headline: “Caraway added to 60 man roster”
Further results of a generation of “travel ball” kids raised and coached by parents who didn’t bother to learn the game. As he gets older, dad should invest in a rib guard and good health insurance.
How anyone with eyeballs could watch that last @AStateFB drive and still think @LayneHatcher isn’t the guy to lead the offense is absolutely mind-boggling
Coached my last game with Derek yday. So many things I could list that he does to make me proud to be his coach and dad, but this one stuck out in 2024:
31 games played. 5 strikeouts.
Looking forward to watching you compete in high school, son! I love you.
@SarahRunyan18
“19 year olds at a school that I didn’t attend aren’t playing sports up to my standard, so now I’m irrationally mad and ruining my family’s holiday weekend.”
I’m convinced that the same people who argue with @ryanvaughan about the snow forecast also:
1. Don’t return their shopping cart
2. Park in 2 spaces as close to the store as possible
3. Throw their elementary age kid 100+ pitches on the weekend in baseball
