Matt: As you say, algorithm progress will push down the cost of deployments, making AI automation more attractive. But costs will need to come down in compute, data, and labor to make a big difference. Otherwise whichever cost doesn't come down will become the bottleneck.

Interesting to contrast this with your other recent paper about cost effectiveness of AI in computer vision, Neil. In some ways they're in tension with one another. Or at least imply that the AI torrent will be highly directed?
