.@SeanFraserMP, Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities makes big housing announcement at #CanadaGrowth Summit. Tomorrow, he says, “we’re actually going to be releasing our plan to solve the housing crisis in Canada.” Fraser says: “It's going to involve a series of measures that are going to do some of the things we've talked about when it comes to reducing the cost of homebuilding.” “We've already removed the GST — there will be more measures that make it more cost effective for builders. We're going to include some of the measures we've recently announced to help cities change the way they build homes…there's going to be support we've mentioned for home building factories, additional measures to help with the affordable housing stock in this country, and to help communities who are wrestling with challenges around homelessness.” “And we're also going to have additional measures, including some that will be shared later today, designed to make it easier for people to get into the housing market for the first time.” ppforum.ca/policy-speaking/2… #CanadaGrowthSummit

PPF’s Annual Testimonial Dinner featured some remarkable and moving speeches from our seven honourees. We just had to transcribe them all; you can read and listen to them all via the links below: ▪️ Former astronaut and cabinet minister @MarcGarneau talked about serving his country and the clarifying force of 'a rocket about to unleash seven million pounds of thrust.' ppforum.ca/policy-speaking/m… ▪️ Hyman Solomon Award honouree Paul Wells spoke on the importance of journalism: 'When politicians go around us, are they doing it to get the truth to you by a shorter path?' ppforum.ca/policy-speaking/p… ▪️ Emerging Leader Award honouree @RavenLacerte discussed the national movement she launched to end violence against women: 'I am standing up for my daughters. Who are you standing up for?' ppforum.ca/policy-speaking/r… ▪️ @J16H described launching the wildly successful @thepwhlofficial: 'It's not about hockey. It's about changing society. We're creating change for the next generation.' ppforum.ca/policy-speaking/j… ▪️ @muradagtfoods pushed for a more ambitious Canada: 'I want to scale businesses and I want the future to be there for our generations to come.’ ppforum.ca/policy-speaking/m… ▪️ @JaniceCharette extolled the privilege of a life in public service: 'We need to celebrate those that are actually in the arena.' ppforum.ca/policy-speaking/j… ▪️ @jp_gladu explained how Indigenous nations are key to unlocking Canada’s potential: 'The Canadian balance sheet is starting to shift. Which side of the ledger do you want to be on?’ ppforum.ca/policy-speaking/j… Thanks to seven incomparable Canadians for a night of inspiration — and calls to action. It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the recent death of our past president, Jodi White. As President and CEO of the Public Policy Forum, Ms. White led a strategic repositioning of the organization, and she continued her work for many years afterward as an Action Canada board member and mentor. "Jodi didn't rest on her laurels as a trailblazer,” said Edward Greenspon, PPF President and CEO. “She always put in the work, especially with young people whose promise she could see before it became evident to others. She was deeply committed to Action Canada; Jodi was the one who saw the opportunity to bring the fellowship into PPF and helped make it happen. She stood out for being smart, sensible and generous.” Ms. White’s career included senior positions in journalism, government and the private sector, starting as a CBC journalist and producer, and later moving to government, where she served as the Chief of Staff to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister. Ms. White also served on the Board of Directors of a wide range of non-profit organizations, sharing her time and talents with groups that included: the National Theatre School of Canada; Canadian International Council; Trans Canada Trail; MakeWay (formerly Tides Canada); Canadian Journalism Foundation; Ottawa General Hospital; Institute for Research on Public Policy; Canadian Institute of International Affairs; Stratford Festival; Bishop's University; Ashbury College and the Southern Africa Education Fund. She was a recipient of the Order of Canada for her work in philanthropy — as well as her meaningful contributions to public dialogue in Canada.

Paul Wells brings down the house. Here's an excerpt: “The politicians are right: They can go around us. It doesn't much matter, but it’s just a fact. But I’ve got one question. When politicians, businesses and other organizations go around us, are they getting the truth to you by a shorter path? All of the truth? Well let’s see. It is easier for governments today than it has ever been to tell you why they have missed every greenhouse emissions target they ever set. Have they used that power to set those expectations? Or which foreign regimes sought to intimidate diaspora communities from exercising the rights that belong to every Canadian. Or why most of the Canada Digital Adoption Program shut down two years early. Or who’s getting richest off connections that are valuable only because Ottawa is far too complicated for ordinary citizens to navigate. Or what Jenni Byrne does within a party that might soon form a federal government, and what her mandate and its limitations are. If any government or party or business wants to tell you these things, I sure can’t stop it. But somehow this sort of information is not often volunteered. People like me still have to ask, and persist, and use all of our wits to get information that can help citizens do the work of citizens.” ppforum.ca/policy-speaking/t… #PPFawards
