This week, C-9, C-14, and C-16 became law.
In less than a year, Canada passed three major criminal justice bills.
Stricter bail, tougher sentences.
Stronger hate crime protections.
Protections for victims and children.
We’ll keep moving with urgency to keep Canadians safe.
For years, #Ontario has led the call for meaningful Criminal Code & bail reform.
Today, I joined @SeanFraserMP in #Brampton and marked the passage of Bill C-14, an important step forward in delivering long-awaited reforms to better protect communities & strengthen public safety.
I was pleased to welcome Justice Minister @SeanFraserMP to Brampton today to announce that the Bail and Sentencing Reform Act is now the law of the land.
For years, Brampton has been calling for stronger bail laws to address repeat violent offending, organized crime, auto theft, extortion, and gun violence. Following the tragic loss of Darian Henderson-Bellman, our city joined police leaders and municipalities across Canada in advocating for meaningful reform that puts public safety first.
🛡️ These changes represent significant progress toward a justice system that better protects victims, holds serious offenders accountable, and helps keep our communities safe.
🤝 Thank you to our federal and provincial partners, Peel Regional Police, and all those who worked tirelessly to advance these reforms.

Canada now has new bail & sentencing laws. Stricter bail for repeat & violent offenders. Tougher sentences for serious crimes. Stronger tools for police & courts.
Thanks to everyone who helped get this done, especially the police officers who keep our communities safe everyday.
We’ve been relentlessly focused on keeping Canadians safe. Our government promised stricter bail and tougher sentences. That promise is now law.
Over 80 targeted changes to the Criminal Code coming into force in 30 days.
Stricter bail. Tougher sentences. Safer communities.
C'est parti ! 🚀
We have liftoff! 🚀
If you said 10 years ago we’d launch rockets from rural NS, people would call you crazy. Today, it happened.
Great to join @Astro_Jeremy & partners at Canso Spaceport. This project means sovereign launch capacity, security, & good jobs for NS! 🌌
Incredibly disappointed today to see Conservative MPs vote against Bill C-16, which will strengthen the Criminal Code by:
-Making femicide a first-degree murder charge;
-Creating a new offence of coercive control;
-Making it mandatory for social media companies to report child sexual abuse and exploitative materials; and,
-Increasing penalties for child predators and restoring more than 12 mandatory minimum penalties.
Combatting crime, bringing criminals to justice and supporting victims are non partisan issues.
Our government is working closely with all our partners to advance our plan to #ProtectOntario.
Ontario welcomes this $3.375M investment over five years to support service providers across the province that deliver critical supports to victims of crime.
